Basically in health class we had this discussion on veins, today and i was wondering whats the difference, between the carotid and jugular vein? i know the jugular veins are in your neck, but what about the carotid artery, is it in your neck?

I'm not good with anatomy, but I hear there was somewhere that you can search for answer. For some strange reason I can't think of where that might be. I'm sure it is at my finger tips but it slips my mind. This is really mind boggling...

The carotid artery supplies fresh, oxygenated blood to the head/neck. The jugular vein returns this deoxygenated blood to the heart.

Think of the carotid as the hot coolant pipe going into the Fiero radiator, and the jugular as the side that returns the cool prestone to the engine.

hrm... the diagram helps, but is there a diagram pointing it out with a frontal view? it doesnt really matter, i cant seem to find one, and i wanted to see if anyone had any better luck.

Edit, i found a pulse that is in the trachea, or windpipe area, could that be it?
Btw, Dragon pmed me after he saw this topic, told me its the carotid artery that are in the neck, not the jugular veins (i think he meant the thing you check if you went running for a while)

The artery has the pulse from the heart beat as it supplies blood to the body. The veins do not have a pulse as the blood returns to the heart.

You could Google "Internet Search Engines", that might help you find the thing you were thinking of.

One of those things ya teach kids:

ARTERY = AWAY (from the heart)
(so Vein = towards)

I realize I'm playing Captain Obvious here, but the carotid is an artery, whereas the jugular is a vein.

And it's evidently a vain main brain vein believing it is more important than any other nestled vessel.

And if you don't have a jugular, you can't learn to juggle.
