Sometimes, while eating fried chicken. Does that make me African American?

Gregory brings up a good point. Various religious, ethnic and nationalities celebrate their uniqueness, but get offended if anyone does what they do, says what they say, walks like they walk, talks like they talk, all the time espousing that everyone should be viewed and treated as if there were no differences of any kind.

As for fried chicken and cornbread being associated with the black culture, just look at the Church's, Popeye's or Kentucky Fried Chicken commercials. Mostly black people speaking in a slight black dialect. A dialect so strong that you could close your eyes and tell they're black. Now, let a white person do the same and Al, Jesse, Joseph and maybe even Martin would rise up with indignity. I would bet that most of the actors that have a speaking part in those commercials have a very good American English speaking voice.

There's always someone looking for something to be offended of. Brings them attention. Gives them hope that they can get some of someone else's money in a court settlement.

Now don't none of y'all say nothin' 'bout southerners eatin' no grits or poke sallid. Bubba Joe and Billy Bob will be a-knockin' on yer door.

That, has not been my experience viewing and listening to the commercials--except in the case of Popeye's, which tends to try to emulate a South La Cajun accent.

I'm not in the pictures but am a member of this organization and know many of them personally. Contrary to the stereotype, our predominatly favorite food group across the organization is BEEF! It's what's for dinner.

I don't like fried Chicken (unless it's boneless), I only like good southern cornbread and I don't seek it out, and I can't stand watermelon. :\

Poutine I'll go out of my way for if it's good. I didn't know I was supposed to be Canadian until I tried real poutine.

Can't have dual citizenship, Brad. Which side to you want to be on? Canadian History Month, which lasts an hour and includes lunch, or the United States, which has Boondawg, TDA and maryjane, among other things?

Dang, I really like a good sweet watermelon. Can anyone attend this luncheon or is it by invitation only.

Sorry, never have been a fan of fried chicken, it's fowl ya know. Corn bread, I can take it or leave it but, if I take it, it's gotta be buttered. It's been quite a while but, I used to be a long distance accuracy watermelon seed spitter champion.

You may like to go above the MD line a bit and get some of that sweet northerner cornbread.

A great cornbread baking tip is to take it out of the oven about ten minutes before it's done and generously drizzle honey over the entire top, put back in oven and finish.

In fact, that's it dammit, I am going out and git me some fried chicken tomorrow!

Newf, I have to agree with MJ....you are being an azz about this. There IS no sterotype. My boys (men, now) have a black mom and white dad.

Its got nothing to do with a good meal...(and fact is, no matter what I may say now, Joan CAN cook one hell of a meal to fill a mans belly). I liked her enough to buy a house with her and have 2 kids together.

Corbread, Chicken and watermellon for desert???.....I'm in (and will raid the fridge later) and I dont give a flying frack what your skin colour is.

I am happy that you quoted him MEM. You see, it was a black committee that thought of this. NOT a white, Asian, or even a mixed committee, but a BLACK committee. So yeah, even though it was thought of by black folks, it is still "whiteys" fault. The facts came out immediately, but the bandwagon instantly jumped of RACISM as the key deciding factor. I bet that most do not know this, and only read into the headlines.

For one, I said nowhere that this "is so simple"? See how you got that, I do not? Sometimes you really stretch **** .

And, to answer your question... How the hell would I know what "food was appropriately representative of Black History Month"? Loaded question.
