Busy day today. I was short one cable with my orders from the day and needed to restock. I hit up Raido Shack and bought them out. Here is what I sat down at the table with.
After several hours this is what I have to show for my day.
Unfortunately I didn't make it to the post office in time to get todays orders out. They will be sent off first thing in the morning though. Hope everyone enjoys their cables.

Here is a list of what is compatable with WinALDL. I don't know much about the Quad 4's but I would think that they are not 160 baud ECM's. The key to using WinALDL and my cables is that they are only compatable with 160 baud ECM's.
3.1L TBI (LG6) (VIN=D) 91 U VAN 3.1L TBI (LG6) (VIN=D) 92 U VAN 3.1L TBI (LG6) (VIN=D) 93 U VAN 3.1L TBI (LG6) (VIN=D) 94 1,2,3U VAN 3.1L TBI (LG6) (VIN=D) 95 1,2,3U VAN MW2 uses "High Bat Voltage" and "ESC 43B Ready for PE" MWAF1 uses "Old High Gear Flag" and "4-3 Downshift for TCC unlock" MCU2IO uses "Fan #1", "Fan #2" and "Heated Windshield" Sensor uses "FP Switch Voltage" (Fuel Pump)
I received my cable last week and installed it this weekend. (I got the panel mount cable) It works like a charm. Now I just need to find out what all the readings mean.
Thanks for the kind words guys. Hope the cables help your cars running strong for years to come.
Now that you have the cables and are learning about the software you should read this thread and if you have questions I will try my best to answer them. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/026777.html

Yep, I built 4 more cables, 8 panel mount connectors and 2 shorting plugs yesterday. I forgot about the portable connectors but if you want one of those I could have one done before tomorrow.

Quad, you need to find out more about the type of computer that is in your car first. Is it OBD1, OBD2, 160 Baud, 8194 Baud? etc. etc.
Once you find out some of that info you can look into a program that is compatable with your type of ECM. Once you find the program, if there is one, you need to find out what kind of cable can be used.
If you find out what you need let me know and I will look into building it for you.

I agree these are great. I was working on a similar setup. However my hangup was that I wanted to be able to switch the 10K resister on and off. My other goal was to produce them as cheap as posible so that anyone that wanted one could get one. The 85 ECM does not need the 10K resister and it was nice to be able to see what was going on without it. The other hangup I had is that I did not want to drill any holes in the car. So I came up with putting a mini toggle switch in a serial port case with a serial port plug. Then I run the wires under the the interior parts and leave it under the ashtray. If you didn't want to drill hole it would be easy to do this with the cable. Lengthen the wires a bit on the portable connector and run it to the ashtray. Good job on the cables.

Yep I agree with you Rob. I tried to make these as cheap as possible so that everyone could afford one without making them unsightly or hard to use.
Here are my thoughts.
For those running an 85 V6 ECM they can simply leave the green wire disconnected if they don't want the resistor in the circuit. If someone would want a switch like you did they could put it in the trim panel with the panel mount connector. I thought about adding some sort of a switch by the serial connector but it would have raised the cost when only a few could benefit from it.
I also thought about some people not wanting to drill a hole in their cars but those trim pieces are a dime a dozen and are so easy to replace. I figured just about anyone could drill a 1/4" hole in a piece of plastic or have it done. It also is extreamly convienent.
You are right though if someone wanted to put the panel mount style connector somewhere else in the car all they would have to do is lengthen the wires.

I just got an extra panel off of my parts car when I mounted mine in my 88. Put the mint 88 panel in a box in case I ever want to put it back on.
I finally hooked it all up pver the weekend. Got some really strange readings! I'm not sure how accurate WinALDL is on all things. The details are more for the tech session, but I will say that the computer said that my power steering was enabled, my A/C was on (when it wasn't), I was in closed loop from the moment I started the car, TCC was locked all the time... I don't know how accurate all of that is supposed to be, but it was cool to finally see that my car is idling right!

Songman, some of the flag data is incorrect as you noted. However, the important data like the sensor values all appear to be right.
I have talked to the software creator and he is more than willing to fix the errors if someone can help him figure them out. I have been wanting to do this but have been busy building cables If you feel like tabulating all the errors I am sure the Fiero community would appreciate it

There is nothing I would like better... but I have no idea about how to do that. This is my first venture into computer stats of a car. If anyone has any ideas, I am more than willing to share info to work out what is needed....

Finally got around to opening that strange small package in the mailbox. Whohoo! I can't wait to see what my ECM will tell me. "Error Flag 37 set: Car is on fire." AAAAAHHHHH!
Anyway, thanks for the fine product.

I'll just pop a quick post here that I finally installed my set and tested it. Worked great without a hitch! I especially like the quick disconnect idea. I still have to try collecting data and plotting it, but a whole buncha numbers were floating across my laptop screen.
I am still making the cables but I am unfortunately going on vacation very shortly and won't be able to complete any orders after June 4th. I have also have had several orders recently and only have two cables until I get back from vacation.
One of the cables is my own personal cable which was built with red and black speaker wire instead of the black cable which I have shown in this thread. It has the same connector on the end and works just the same as the rest of them. I will offer this for $3 less than a regular cable since it looks a little different.
MaxDaemon you are first in line so you have your choice of cables. Send me a PayPal for $23 for the normal cable or $20 for my personal one. Also make sure you order before June 4th so I can get it in the mail before I leave for vacation.
fierogt88 I will let you know as soon as MaxDaemon makes his order so that you know what is still available.
I am interested in getting one... but gotta paya ticket first. that and seeing as I dont have a laptop I gotta find some way to get palm software going. If anyone has more leads on connecting this to a palmpilot please PM me or something. -Ryan

The 2N2222 (what I used) is commonly available. These are so generic they should be sold by the pound.
Note, the pinout shown on the schematic is the view looking at the back of the female RS-232 connector. In any case, always go by the numbers molded into the connector face.

It looks like the way it is currently being done, Jefrysuko is using the DTR as his +12V, no R4, and putting R3 in the DB9 housing with a wire to pin B on the ALDL connector. Or does our ECM even need R3?
