1987 Fiero GT T-Top 5-speed V8 350

Bought the car back in 1999 just to perform the V8 swap. It is a rust free car from California that I had shipped to Minneapolis. I do not drive this car in the winter, I do drive it every day in the summer, it is my primary form of transportation. I have put over 40,000 miles on this car since completing the V8 swap. Last year I installed a new carburated GM crate motor 350 and replaced the getrag with another one this spring. My old getrag will go with the car, I removed it because it had worn out bearings. The car runs great, easy to drive though a little rough on bad streets due to the stiffer suspension. I have driven this car on a few 500+ mile road trips and averaged 24 mpg, in the city it gets about 14 mpg. :P I have shown this car at many different shows and won quite a few awards even a couple 1st place in class, IMO with a little more detail work it could be a consistant 1st place show winner. I have completed about 90% of whats needed to make this car perfect. It is a very sound running car that is easy to maintain, it just needs a little more cosmetic work to be perfect. Oh, and its pretty quick and it draws lots of attention wherever I go.

Modifications:

EXTERIOR & INTERIOR

-C&C Installed T-TOPs
-Custom Honda Electron Blue paint
-Konig Verdict Opal Luster 18" and 17" wheels wrapped with Kumho Ecsta 712s
-GT Gray interior
-Mr Mike's leather seats
-Pioneer CD player
-Factory Subwoofer system (not hooked up)
-Power locks and mirrors

SUSPENSION

-Prothane bushings on all 4 corners and cradle
-Suspension Technique Lowering springs in front
-Ground Control 400lb coil overs on kybs in the rear
-Upgraded Front and rear sway bars

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN

-V8 Archie install kit
-GM Goodwrench 350 V8(9,000 miles)
-SPEC Stage 3 clutch (2,000 miles)
-78,000 mile 5-speed Getrag
-Rodney Dickman FWD Conversion kit for Getrag
-Rodney Dickman Ultimate Getrag Shift Kit
-CSI Electric Water Pump
-Tilton high torque Mini starter
-Custom 4 core radiator

I hate to put this up for sale, its been my life during the past five summers but I am buying a house this fall and need some additional money. I could talk for hours about this car, in fact I will explain in detail the V8 swap and any additional info that is unique to this car due to its modifications. If anyone has questions feel free to ask here or send me an offer via PM. Also you can PM me for my phone number if you want to hear all about this cars history.

...I can't believe you're selling your car (although I do understand the reasoning).

For anyone interested, this car is great - Jimmy has put many years of Fiero passion into this thing, and it's a very rewarding drive in return. I hope it goes to a good home!

BTW - Here's a few more pics I ran across...

...although I couldn't find any acutal engine pics?

Brakes are stock for the most part, though they have more aggresive pads and all the lines have been replaced. Car also had a new master cylinder installeda few years ago. Actually, I do run grand am brakes in the rear.

Guys thanks for the comments on the car, I'll work on taking some more pics of the interior and engine bay.

Which crate motor did you put in it? The 350 HO? Does it have A/C? How many miles on the chassis?

Dunno which crate motor specifically. It was about $1300 from GM, I believe it was rated at 250hp, car should make around 275hp and more than 300ftlbs with the current headers and intake. A/C was removed during the swap. Chassis has over 140,000 miles but everything suspension wise was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Steering is tight and does not show any signs of play, no vibrations at any speed. There is no rust on the chassis and shows no signs of ever being in an accident.

No one has claim to the car until I work out a deal with someone, so far no deals have been struck.

Also, I may entertain other offers but please no trades. Contact me via PM and we can work something out.

Is the seal good on the t-tops? Any leakage?

Also, have I seen this car at the Dells Run? It looks familiar.

The T-tops do allow water to seep in during moderate to heavy rains at the the front A-pillar area. It has been pointed out that I am missing the small foot long flat strip of weather stripping that prevents this from happening. This strip appears to insert along the outside end of the T-top and covers the area where water will eventually drip in. I heard this strip of rubber is cheap but I havern't been able to find a place that sells these strips anymore however. The rest of the T-top weather stripping is in good condition and creates a tight seal. There are not any leaks along the rest of the inside or center of the T-tops. I also replaced the p-seals a few years back so they are in good shape.

I have had this car at three different Dells Runs over the years. One year I think I let 10 different people take it for a spin, I am going to miss moments like that by selling this car.

BTW, if anyone wants some more pics send me an email or PM, otherwise I'll have them posted here in a couple days. My network at work is not allowing me to use PIP right now.

I gotta stop looking at these V8 Fiero's that keep coming up for sale. They are very nice to anything I have, I'd be all over that if I was able to sell my other 2 Fiero's for a decent price, the ones a 383 V8 that whose engine needs rebuilt, the other's just a 4 cylinder with lots of new parts.....Unfortunatly I only have a $1000 in cash and I'm sure a payment plan is out of the question. Sooooo bump.

Damn,
This depresses me that this car hasn't sold in less than 24hours.

This car should be gone. This is the type of car that should sell at that price sight unseen. Personally, I would have asked $10k to start.

All I can say is.
Damn, Sorry you have to sell it though. I remember seeing it a few years ago at the dells. Very nice car.

Sorry guys, Joel is right I have been busy, a family member passed away last week.

Bad news, I was rear ended last week. I was sitting in a left turn lane waiting for a green light when a Durango hit a 626 that ended up smacking into me. I am so pissed this happened. I am sure they will total the car but I am going to do what I can to prevent this from happening. Once the insurance companies figure out who is going to foot the bill I'll let all of you know what I am going to do with the car. I should find out in the next few days.

I have a couple appraisals of the car valuing it at over $10,000. Figure there is ~$4,000 worth of damage. I am sure the insurance companies will low ball me.

damn

got any pictures of the damage?

my dad is VERY VERY interested in this car, And im not sure if your interested but he has a stock 86GT auto with all options but leather, 80k miles and very original and very nice.

he's just wondering if yours is repairable, and how much you'll be asking for it.

The insurance companies are argueing over who is at fault right now and ignoring me. I know the car is repairable, a body shop has already gave me an estimate at $4000 but I could easily cut a lot of the cost out by fixing some of the stuff myself. I will post pictures of the hit sometime this week, right now the car is sitting at my brothers house.

As it sits right now, I could replace a heater hose, have the rearend aligned, and you could drive it. I know the frame is tweaked a bit but it should be able to be pulled out, cradle appears to be undamaged. Mainly exhaust, bumber, trunk, tailights, fastback clip and some minor frame damage, could have been worse.

Shaun (Purple Reign) gave me a tow, maybe he can shed some light on the damage.
