You can tell by the dipstick location that the recalls were NOT performed.

If I thought I could get my money back within a reasonable amount of time, I'd buy it.
$17k is pushing what I can tie up without a return. This is not going to be a gangbuster
year on the farm. I do not think this girl needs this car unless she is a "Tina", well, with
no intentions to race it of course. This car is going to need attention. 20 years in storage
does not do auto trans rubber parts any good and the fastest way I have ever seen a car
get trashed is let a young driver get disgusted with their "ride"!

i already offered that also in a pm to lori awhile back and got no response. short answer, the guy just wants to make a profit. my opinion is 20 yrs old is too early, in about 10 more yrs that price may be realistic.

Wierd....Me and Lori were just talkin about this car today. Its fine i guess, still with only 9 miles on it. Guess it somehow managed to stay stored. After seeing this post though, i agree, some car museum needs to snatch this bad boy up and let it keep sitting....9 miles, thats craziness

I understand everyone's side on this. I know $17000, is a lot to pay for a car that you probably wouldn't want to drive, since driving it would put miles on it, and it would no longer be a 9 mile Indy. On the other hand, the owner paid almost that much for it back in 1984, and is basically asking for his investment back. The owner is an elderly gentleman and is not a Fiero lover like we are. He bought this car thinking it would be worth more in 20 years and added it to his collection of other cars that are worth a lot. Unfortunately the car did not increase in value the way he hoped it would, but I understand him at least wanting his money back that he spent on it. I spent almost $300 of my own money trying to sell it for him, and finally gave up trying to sell it. I haven't talked to him in a while, and I know he was pretty firm on the price, so if there is anyone willing to buy the car for his asking price, I will contact him and see if he still has it, but for any less or any trades I am not going to.

I undertand this gentleman's point about wanting to make a profit on an investment. However, it seems like he's trying to make a market for something that is not there (yet). (the old saying...the value of something is only what someone is willing to pay for it)
I've noticed prices rising slightly for Fieros lately but I think these cars are a few years away from exploding in price as 30-40 year old muscle cars continue out of reach of the everyday hobbist. The trend seems to be as a particular market has reach a certain point of (non) affordability, the market then looks for the next up and coming market until that one become unaffordable. Example would be as late 60's muscle cars became out of reach in price (Mopars especially) early 70's "musclecars" became the new hot market. That market is in process of becoming "out of reach" in the past year, so I think the trend will again focus on another market. Since the mid to late 70's was fairly tame as muscle cars go (save for the Trans Am and a few others) Early to Mid 80's are the next logical choice for a new market. This may not happen next year, but the Fieros day is coming!
I hope this Indy finds a good home. If I had the $17K, I'd be all over it. Good Luck to him and the Fiero!

I emailed the Harrah Car Collection in Reno about this car. I think they can't afford it, but they might know someone who can.

Wish I was rich, I'd buy it and donate it to the museum. It should never be driven on the road.

Good Call! I didn't think of that... wonder if the auto collection at the Imperial Palace Las Vegas would be interested?

I am also sending an email to these guys... The museum has an '89 Shelby CSX... Man, that is just one of those Dodge Daytona's with a Shelby badge!
Maybe they can replace the CSX with a nice Indy! I know Shelby's significance to the automotove world, but I think I would hold out for something with a little more (okay... a lot more) Shelby prestige than one of those.

Well, here's a copy of the email I sent the museum...
Ms.Lori... I hope that Indy finds a home to preserve it. Good luck on the sale.

COPY OF EMAIL SENT TO MUSEUM I REFERENCED EARLIER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully this email finds its' way to Mr. Burdick... and is not lost in the universe of cyber bits & bytes.

My wife and I visited Gonzales this weekend for our 6th anniversary. I know it's not exactly an exotic destination, but we love Texas, and really enjoyed our countryside rambelings down there. Went to the Shiner Brewery, toured Goliad,... and went on up to Rosanky to your wonderful museum. Okay,... so the beer and cars were more for me... but the wife did have a good time too!

I live in Cresson, Texas. I can take a 4 iron and drive a golf ball right into the warehouses of the Pate Museum of Transportaion. I know you guys have had to have been there before, though your collection and facilities are far nicer (Love that AC!), the basic concept is the same. And I really did enjoy browsing your collection. I think I enjoyed the '05 (1905 that is) Caddy the best, and '65 GTO with Hurst wheels. First time ever seeing a Gullwing Mercedes too. So different from everything else in that era...

Anyway, I digress. I know you must get numerous offers for cars to purchase, and numerous opportunities for rare vehicles, but I feel absolutely compelled to give you one more.

It is a 9 mile (that is right... 9 mile), 1984 Indianapolis 500 Pace Edition Pontiac Fiero.

If I may take a moment more of your time, I would like to give you a few reasons why I think this wonderful gem would find a worthy place in your collection.

1) You only had 2 Pontiacs... and if my memory is correct, they were both GTO's and both were owned by parties other than Mr. Burdick.
2) You had no mid-engine vehicles represented. That may be a technicality, but I know for certain that your Porsche, Corvair (WOW! what a beautiful 'vair), and VW bug, are all considered rear engined.
3) You had no Indy Pace Car editioned vehicles, arguably the most important motor sports event in America.
4) The collection is very light on historic vehicles of the 1980's. I remember a 'vette and an '89 Shelby CSX, which is essentially just a Dodge (loved your old Dodge's, by the way!)... and that is all I can recall.

So this vehicle would fill many niches in your collection. I hope this did not come across as critical. Far from it! It would be impossible to criticize such a fine collection of vehicles, and someone's obvious passion that they have opened to the public. I was merely trying to point out the merits of adding this vehicle to your museum.

You would get America's only mass produced, mid-engine, sports car. An Indy edition. A Pontiac and an '80's icon.
Quite possibly, the lowest mileage '84 Pace Car in existence.

Please click on this link to view the vehicle. The link is on the worlds largest forum for Fiero enthusiasts. In addition to pictures and details on the vehicle (located in Alabama, I beleive), you will read some sentiments from readers that want to see this vehicle preserved.

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum4/HTML/028292.html

Even if this car does not find it's way into your collection, it is worth a read to just appreciate it for what it is. Moreover, you may know of a person, museum, or Pontiac enthusiast that would like just such a vehicle. Please forward this on to them.

I thank you for your time, and thank you for the wonderful museum.

I want to Thank everyone for their efforts to preserve this car, I tried for several months to find someone to buy this car and preserve it, I truly hope someone will rescue this Indy and preserve it in all it's glory. I wish I could afford to do it, but it just isn't possible for me.

The LeMay collection might want it... that would have been right up Harold LeMay's alley. He liked collecting cars real people bought and drove.

Here is the contact page from their website.

http://www.lemaymuseum.org/contact.php

Was just thinking that the extreme low mileage could be a disadvantage to them also... their cars are driven. They have a group of mechanics maintain and repair the vehicles for events, parades etc year round. Worth checking out though.
