Well, here's a copy of the email I sent the museum...
Ms.Lori... I hope that Indy finds a home to preserve it. Good luck on the sale.
COPY OF EMAIL SENT TO MUSEUM I REFERENCED EARLIER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully this email finds its' way to Mr. Burdick... and is not lost in the universe of cyber bits & bytes.
My wife and I visited Gonzales this weekend for our 6th anniversary. I know it's not exactly an exotic destination, but we love Texas, and really enjoyed our countryside rambelings down there. Went to the Shiner Brewery, toured Goliad,... and went on up to Rosanky to your wonderful museum. Okay,... so the beer and cars were more for me... but the wife did have a good time too!
I live in Cresson, Texas. I can take a 4 iron and drive a golf ball right into the warehouses of the Pate Museum of Transportaion. I know you guys have had to have been there before, though your collection and facilities are far nicer (Love that AC!), the basic concept is the same. And I really did enjoy browsing your collection. I think I enjoyed the '05 (1905 that is) Caddy the best, and '65 GTO with Hurst wheels. First time ever seeing a Gullwing Mercedes too. So different from everything else in that era...
Anyway, I digress. I know you must get numerous offers for cars to purchase, and numerous opportunities for rare vehicles, but I feel absolutely compelled to give you one more.
It is a 9 mile (that is right... 9 mile), 1984 Indianapolis 500 Pace Edition Pontiac Fiero.
If I may take a moment more of your time, I would like to give you a few reasons why I think this wonderful gem would find a worthy place in your collection.
1) You only had 2 Pontiacs... and if my memory is correct, they were both GTO's and both were owned by parties other than Mr. Burdick.
2) You had no mid-engine vehicles represented. That may be a technicality, but I know for certain that your Porsche, Corvair (WOW! what a beautiful 'vair), and VW bug, are all considered rear engined.
3) You had no Indy Pace Car editioned vehicles, arguably the most important motor sports event in America.
4) The collection is very light on historic vehicles of the 1980's. I remember a 'vette and an '89 Shelby CSX, which is essentially just a Dodge (loved your old Dodge's, by the way!)... and that is all I can recall.
So this vehicle would fill many niches in your collection. I hope this did not come across as critical. Far from it! It would be impossible to criticize such a fine collection of vehicles, and someone's obvious passion that they have opened to the public. I was merely trying to point out the merits of adding this vehicle to your museum.
You would get America's only mass produced, mid-engine, sports car. An Indy edition. A Pontiac and an '80's icon.
Quite possibly, the lowest mileage '84 Pace Car in existence.
Please click on this link to view the vehicle. The link is on the worlds largest forum for Fiero enthusiasts. In addition to pictures and details on the vehicle (located in Alabama, I beleive), you will read some sentiments from readers that want to see this vehicle preserved.
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum4/HTML/028292.htmlEven if this car does not find it's way into your collection, it is worth a read to just appreciate it for what it is. Moreover, you may know of a person, museum, or Pontiac enthusiast that would like just such a vehicle. Please forward this on to them.
I thank you for your time, and thank you for the wonderful museum.
