Here is something I have been playing with for the last couple of years.
I'm curious to see how much interest there is in these. Shown is the Indy vent. I have also done the a regular vent with just fiero and the 85 gt vent. In the works is the GT fast back
I have a pair of stainless vents (pictured are mild steel) on my 86 GT, but since I don't keep this car at my house I will have to run across town to get pictures. I will try to get that done tomorrow. These vents are all laser cut and formed on a Salvagnini panel bender, so I can usually hold +/- 0.015" on my tolerances. And yes I can do custom stuff if anyone is interested, but I have to watch my minimum so that things don't get crazy pricewise. I must warn everyone that GM changed the holes on the engine vents. I'm not sure if it was year to year, but I do know that the holes are different from 84-85, and have found that they are different on the GT's as well. This at the current time is an obsticle I have not conquered. Current price estimates $50.00 for a mild steel set no paint $60.00 for a stainless steel set #4 finish Both are 16 ga

One Welcome to the forum. Secondly I have a 350 swap and I drilled out the lower vent for better heat release this seems to be quite popular (88 formula btw). I was wondering how these deal with heat? how does it run with the stock duek and 2.8? Thanks

They look great. Count me in for a set of custom ones down the line....not sure yet if I will need the fastback or the notchback version. Probably looking at mid summer before I will be a customer.
I assume the amount of heat they vent out will depend on the design....the more open space the more they will vent.
I definitely think there is sufficient interest here.

Definately count me in for a set of Stainless GT ones, for a Fastback. Very nice work. Welcome to the Forum. I haven't heard of anyone with this idea before, so it would be one of a kind. But definately count me in for the Stainless GT one. I have a 1986 GT fastback as well.

I have had a set of these on my 85 sport coupe with the Duke for 2 years no problems. My 86 GT has only seen a few miles. My son and I have not finished the exhaust on it yet. I do believe that there is sufficient openings to vent any excess heat from the engine compartment. I have thought about doing something with a V-8 logo, and I did leave a GT vent with Archie when I was at his place for the Fierorama open house.
I would be interested in a mild steel custom, something with 3800 Series II Supercharged with the pegasus for an 87 GT... Will you ship to Canada?
I did a keychain with 3800 turbo not to long ago. I assume that you would want 3800 Series II Supercharged in the Fiero font? and would you like it to go around the shield like the Indy? Right now I have not located the Fiero font for the software I use, but I am slowly getting the letters entered one by one. Shipment to Canada would not be a problem.
Do you do custom engravings? If so, how much would it cost for a custom image/words?
Thanks, Greg
Greg,
What do you have in mind. The laser can etch the surface of the material, but if you want to polish the material the etch most likely will disapear. The operator and I have not had a chance to try a few things to make the etch deeper and a little more visable and durable. As for cost, the laser costs me $135.00 per hour Don't panic though as you can see by my prices on the vents it doesn't take long to cut a set out. So the size and number of letters will determine the cost. The machine can cut and engrave on the same part.
I have to apologize I ended up working this morning and did not get the photos for the GT. I will try tomorrow after work. In the meantime here is another trinket that I have worked on.

This engine vent idea looks interesting.

I am probably looking for about the same thing he is...probably also a fastback version (notchback that will be converted to fastback taillights and deck lid)...also mild steel that will be painted. By the time you are ready to really get into the custom ones, I will probably be ready to commit, and volume saves money when it becomes less custom.

I would like, if possible, to have it to go around the shield like the Indy, have the fiero "title" using the fiero font and, again if possible use the proper font for the 3800 Series II Supercharged like this...
Thanks Stephane

Bump for a cool product, in a couple weeks I would like to buy the fastback GT ones like you have off the car in the first picture you posted in mild steel.

Here are the prototype GT vents on a car. These are the stainless that I have formed. The fit is still off about 1/2" even though you can't tell by the pictures. This will give you an idea how they look. Also, it is deceiving because the trunk lid is not perfectly set right either
Sorry for the dirty car I don't have a water source to wash it down where it is parked. It is supposed to be a black car even though it looks "dirt" brown. And no I don't consider myself to be a photographer.
I'm in for a stainless Formula set when you get those worked out...

What are you thinking for a formula? Do you want something with formula on it somewhere? Do you want formula in the Fiero font or the font on the side of the door?

HERE IS WHAT A 3800 SERIES II SUPERCHARGED VENT IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE. I DIDN'T HAVE THE BEST PICTURE TO WORK WITH. AND THE ADDITION OF THE 3800 SERIES II SUPERCHARGED TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. CUTTING AND FORMING WILL TAKE A LOT LESS THAN THAT. THESE ARE FOR A COUPE. NOT THE GT. STILL REFINING GT.
I WILL ENTERTAIN IDEAS IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. WILL NEED HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS FOR BEST RESULTS

Sorry for the delay, I just saw this.
Yes, maybe Fiero over the top and Formula under the Pegasus, in the door font. Nothing Fancy.

Interesting. I am going to be in need of a set for a fastback conversion I have planed. FYI the mounts are different for the 88's since the strut tower changed position. 86-88GT, doesn't matter since I will be custom making the mount for it anyway. I am going to incorporate it into the design for the strut tower brace. Can you do up a set for us 4.9 owners out here? Mild steel is good since I will be painting them either the same color as the car or going black like the originals depending on my final car color choice.
How about some with horizontal lines cut similar to the original vents (but not angled) but with the cut out fiero symbol and a 4.9GT in there somewhere in the center? Doesn't have to take up much of the panel. I'll see if I can come up with a good design to post my idea.
Nice work!
EDIT: Just a thought but I figured if you can make these then you could probably put together something for the dash, radio, and shifter surrounds. Stainless would look great in the interior. Just an idea.

This is getting interesting. Here's what I have. The Indy fiero has been set on an 84 Indy and fits pretty nice. The Stainless Steel Indy vent I have on my car has the bolt pattern of an 85, but if I recall 2 out of the 4 holes line up. This also fits my 86 sport coupe. On the 86 GT that I have pictured, I have the bolt holes figured out,but I'm not quite happy with the fit in terms of being flush with the trunk lid, also this is an SE conversion, so I don't know what year brackets or vents I have. I am hoping that Pontiac kept these holes the same (but I doubt it). I had a set of 85 gt vents that I sold at Fierorama. I don't know how they fit on the owners car I did not get feedback. I do know that they fit my 85 sport coupe. I don't have any other cars local to check, however I am about an hour from Fred Bartemeyer and am sure he and I can work something out. The vents I have are for sale also. I would like to get $20.00 OBO a set for the prototype GT vents that I have. Currently I have a set of Stainless Steel and mild steel Gt vents (see photos). I will even sell the SS Indy vents that I have on my car (see photos). They have seen the elements so I will let them go for $20.00. I have a new set of 84 Indy mild steel vents not painted $50.00. Keep in mind that the trunk lid has a slight crown and my vents are going to be straight, so they will not follow the contour of the trunk lid exactly. I would even entertain doing something for the long vent on the 84's. (This would entail a trip to Fred's) For the custom stuff, I would love to have a high resolution photo for tracing. So if you have something in mind send me a photo. I will do the trace work and you can do the approval. I had a heck of a time finding a good 3800 series II turbocharged photo to work with. I did think it would be easier. As for interior trim pieces, plaques, badges, etc. I can do these also. If you want a list of items I have done already email me and I can send all the trinkets that I have played around with. I will try to keep all prices reasonable. The table on the laser I have access to is 60" x 120" and can cut up to 1/4" aluminum, 1/2" stainless and 3/4" mild steel. The panel bender I have access to can bend up to 14 ga mild steel or stainless and .125" aluminum. If you have something in mind for a show or club, I can help in this area as well. Once again a high resolution photo or photos, if you want to combine things, of what you have in mind would be great. Last but not least I am set up with paypal.
Hi Rich, We met at FIERORAMA 07', I bought a INDY vent from you at the show. If your SS INDY vents are still available, I'll take them. How much for shipping to ZIP 60403? I can PayPal you today. Thanks! -Mike
P.S. These are a VERY nice item guys!

The Indy Stainless vents have sold. I am going to make another set for my car (they will be different) and will post pictures when done. Stay tuned. I might have to try the formula vents since they are new.
I replied to you email yesterday (from work) so just in case it didnt work out, this is what i am looking for
I put the font on there. I dont know if it matters but for the sizes, the top is size 20 and the bottome is size 17. You obviously know what you are doing, so i will let you do your thing but as close to that as possible would be FANTASTIC!!!!
