CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG, NOW YOU KNOW HOW CLOSE I HAVE PAID ATTENTION TO ENGINES IN THE LAST 20 YEARS. WHEN I WAS WORKING ON CARS THERE WERE A COUPLE OF 4 CYLINDERS, A FEW 6 CYLINDERS, IN LINE AND V, AND A FEW 8 CYLINDERS. BASICALLY ANY GM ENGINE PRODUCED BETWEEN 1974 AND 1988. I THINK I WORKED ON THEM ALL AT SOME POINT AND TIME. NOW IT SEAMS YOU CAN GET ANY INCREMENT YOU WANT IN DISPLACEMENT. AND THE NAMES, INJECTION STYLES AND ALLOYS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DAYS OF CARBURATORS? IF ANYONE IS CURIOUS MY FIRST CAR WAS A 1976 PONTIAC......, (ARE YOU READY FOR THIS), ASTRE!!! YES, THAT WORK ON ME EVERY WEEK 140 VEGA ENGINE THAT I CHANGED ONCE A YEAR FOR 4 YEARS AND RESET THE TIMING BELT EVERY TIME THE DARN THING BACKFIRED (GOT REALLY GOOD AT THAT), UNTIL I COULDN'T FIND ANOTHER ONE SO I SCRAPPED THE THING. OF COURSE TRY AND FIND AN ASTRE IN GOOD SHAPE NOW, THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD IT RUST PROOFED AND THE BODY WAS GOOD WHEN I SCRAPPED IT IN 1989. THAT WAS 3 MONTHS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY FIERO. WISH I WOULD HAVE PUT A DIFFERENT ENGINE IN THE ASTRE.(IT WAS A YEAR LATER THAT I SUCCESSFULLY TRANSPLANTED A 305 INTO A CHEVY MONZA. MORE POWER ) SO ME AND SHORT LIVED PONTIACS HAVE A HISTORY.

TEASER ALERT

HAD TIME TO CHECK THE 3800 SERIES II SUPERCHARGED FONT THIS MORNING AND THIS IS HOW IT TURNED OUT. NOT PERFECT YET BUT EXTREMLY CLOSE FOR THE FIRST RUN. JUST NEED TO SMOOTH THINGS OUT A LITTLE BIT AND INCREASE THE TABS ON THE e, a, AND d. THIS IS WHY I WOULD LOVE A HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTO TO WORK WITH.

THIS LAST ONE SHOWS THE TRUNK CROWN.

I sent you a reply in private messages and was waiting for a reply from you. The TURBOCHARGED is kind of tricky as it gets smaller unless you want me to try to go bolder, but then I have to trace everything out one line at a time to reproportion it. I did burn a set this week and forgot to delete FIERO. I will post pictures later. The laser hiccupped in a corner and I'll zoom in on it for the photo.

OK

Here is where things are right now. I have had a chance to play with the GT vents everyone is requesting and here are the vents hot off the laser today.

now the bad news. Since my GT's body is not attached I need a few test cars. If anyone is attending the NIFE meeting Saturday I will be there.( I know that this is a slow process, but due to the amount of laser work coming in I have had to resort to buying laser time to work on these and it is getting very pricey.) If a GT is close on Saturday, I can run a set up test. Keep in mind it took me about 8 tries to get the notchback vents to where I like them. So I have already prepped myself to be disappointed yet hopeful. The following pictures are more teasers. These will be brought to the meeting for people to get their hands on them.

SLOWnSTEADY this one is for you (I know I forgot to remove "FIERO"):

For you 1985 GT owners this one is for you:

Now for the people (fieroseverywhere in particular) that requested the interior panels here are how they are shaping up.

I will have to retake the interior pictures due to a glitch. I will get them later tonight preliminary pricing estimate $40-$50 per set. Pictured is 20ga 304 SS 2B finish. If you want polished stainless It will cost more. Personally I don't think it would be a good idea. The 2B reflects enough light I think the polished would be blinding around midday especially in summer.

Here are the panel photos:

This one lines up pretty good I should change the fillets on the openings

I know the tach and speedo are off by about 3/16", but it still looks cool

I really like the way this one turned out. It fell into place like it was meant to be.

and for you trinket people here is another "experiment"

This is sitting on a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper. It was cut out of 20 ga 304 ss

Awesome job on the interior pieces! i asked you about those earlier, and you said it wouldn't be for a while, ha ha, but i am happy that your starting on these already. Now will these replace the actually piece? Or is it just an overlay? They look really good. And Could you have whatever you wanted in text on the speedo faceplate instead of fiero? Could you have GT, or Fiero GT? I am interested in a set when you are finished Keep up the good work, i can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks

Wow, this is some really interesting stuff!

Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to make a pair of notchback vents with slots cut in them, to match the slots on the '84 Fiero decklid?

OK I'm glad babadoo bumped this thread back up cause I had completely forgot about it.
I am interested in the interior pieces. I have only 1 request though. Make them so that they only cover the colored portion of the stock plates leaving that little black inset edge exposed in all areas. This is something I really want to do. Leaving that black inset edge exposed will allow the purchaser to paint the stock plates any color they choose and when the stainless plates are installed it will leave a colored edge. Also if the purchaser wanted to powder coat the new plates and paint the stock plates it will make a cool effect.

I currently have a set ready to test, however I don't have a car to fit them up to. They look good on my 86, but the rear body section is not fastened into place so I can't make an honest check with my car. One of these weekends I'll have to make a run south and run a check.

Let me know when you have a set of 88 GT 4.9 engine vents ready, and if you get the engine turned interior sets (for an auto)

Sorry. Been away from this thread for way too long. Love the work on the interior pieces. They came out really good. I want a set when you get that tach and speedo thing figured out (4 pieces in all). I will need one for the aux gauges which is also a very simple piece. Still patiently waiting on the GT vents, they are going to be great. Everything is looking good so far. Excellant work. Stainless looks so much better then the fake plastic interior pieces.

EDIT: One other idea I thought I toss out there is the vent covers on either end of the dash. Its a pretty simple "L" piece and could look pretty good if you are interested. No one has ever made aftermarket versions of these that I have even seen. I know its a bit tougher but could you make a set of 86-88 GT quarter windows? I don't know of you are set up to do the slight curve or for the size they would have to be but they would be easier then making them out of fiberglass and could be painted black. You could cut out the GT symbol. Just some other ideas. Keep up the great work.

As of right now the dash trim plates are going to come in around $40.00 per set. This might be on the high side, but I have to keep myself covered. This will be for all 4 pieces. The 3 piece will come in about $5.00 less give or take. Hopefully I won't have a stainless cost jump.

Is anyone else interested in either of these? I do have the equipment available to form the slight curve in the quarter windows whether they are fastback or notchback, and with a light material, say 20ga or 18 ga the curve wouldn't have to be perfect, and I can laser cut logos in these also. Maybe it's time to start a new thread custom laser cutting and forming.

By the way I have found a test subject for the latest GT vents. They have been sent and I hope to have a review by the end of next week.

I would be interested in the fastback quarter window, but would want it either louvered, or cut out so I could install a plexiglass insert for vision through it. I am also interested in the 86 GT vent when you have them perfected.
