Lori If i can help my offer stands . As for the Dipping I was trapped in between two cars in a parking lot and from the left side a large Buick rear bumper tried to take my drivers door and for the bird strikes going home on a back road I had a Turkey tangle with the antenna and left a rather large Deposit on the windshield
I hope you dipped that turkey in some hot boiling peanut oil and served it up with some cranberry sauce. Maybe the Buick driver deserved the same fate. No amount of secret fluid is likely to ward off those kind of days. It's good stuff, but it ain't *that* good

I hear rumor some of that secret fluid got into some peanut butter, or maybe it was the other way around? or maybe the turkeys are eatting recalled peanut butter? well, back to something I forget what?

Lori, did you make it to the shop today? Inquiring minds want to know.

I spent several hours at the molding shop on Thursday, working with them to make a "perfect" fitting set of windows. These will now be used to make a routing fixture so all the windows will be routed the same to prevent the same problem that has delayed this project, and this should be done next week.
Lori BTW, Maybe I will look for some material that is pre dipped.

Thanks for the update Ma'am, it's greatly appreciated. Do you see a glimmer of hope for getting us some windows soon? The event calendar is filling up quickly. (gulp)
As for a dip, I would recommend Dippity Doo. Nothing is more rigid than that stuff. LOL
Not taking any thing away from the secret fluid I have in the past used a open flame run along the edge to remove any stress risers and create a smooth edge

Yes, a quick brush with flame across cut edges can be effective, but I'd be more than a little reluctant to try it once the windows have the black trim finish applied to the back side of them.
I don't think that the crazing or cracks that we see are from stress along the edge from trimming. Just my 2cents.
You are correct. The original acrylic windows were made 20+ years ago and polymer material technology has come a very long way since then. I know the exact material that Lori is using for her product and I can say professionally that she made a excellent choice. Improved impact resistance, abrasion resistance, thermal stability and UV stabilization are a few of the key features. I believe that Lori's new windows will actually wear better than the originals.
The original windows that I have examined appear to show embrittlement from environmental exposure with subsequent stress cracking from thermal cycling. In my lab we have seen a very similar pattern of stress cracking in polycarbonate parts that have been subjected to 25-50 kG of gamma radiation and subsequently subjected to prolonged thermal cycling in an enviromental chamber to simulate aging.
Cracking of the windows from stress risers resulting from edge trimming would present as cracks that extend on the suface of the parts, or completely through the part, and originate at the edges. You'll note that the cracks you see in old Fiero quarter windows appear as a myriad of short, finite cracks, internal to the material and infrequently coincident with the material surface. These cracks appear throughout the material and are particularly evident in the center transparent area.

I'll have $$$ at the end of this month so I'll be getting w/ you on a pair as well. I noticed when I got my car it didnt have any cracks in the plexiglass its only after I started have to jack it up and get alignments/shop work that those nasty cracks started to show up

I talked to the molding shop yesterday. One routing fixture is done, and they are working on the second one, they expect to have everything ready by Friday, so we can start production back up next week. I hope.

Ha ha ... you guys are funny with the mystery dipping fluid. Actually, I talked to Phil's son and he told me that the plastic windows his father was trying to reproduce were to be dipped in a UV protectant/sealant after trimming by the moulding shop. I thought he meant the originals were dipped, but it was just to be his reproductions.
I want some MYSTERY DIPPING SOLUTION myself...what a great way to apply sunblock!!! Just need a robotic George Jetson Dipping Machine...

I talked to the molding shop this morning. They seem to think they can start production back up about the middle of this week. We have been over and over this project to eliminate any further problems, and I feel we have all the "bugs" worked out.

So am I to understand that these aftermarket windows are to be better that any other windows currently available out their??? I do need a set of windows as I lost one last summer while heading down the highway I noticed their are a few others out their making these quarter windows (kahines, Fiero warehouse, Feiro store has some(not sure who makes them)) just curiouse as to the differences???
Very interested in yours Lori, hope they're up and running soon
I had looked at a set of the first run windows Ms Lori had produced, and they were really nice. Was planning to get a set, but they were all sold before I could get enough in the Fiero fund to purchase a set. If the new ones are anywhere near as good as the first one's, you're definately better off waiting to buy a set from Ms Lori. Anything has to be better than a piece of flat plastic with a rolled edge. The ones from Khines are flat and require a really thick adhesive tape to get it to stick to the car. Even then, you have to worry about it loosing adhesion because of the plastic trying to return to it's original flat shape. The though of fighting with another motorist because part of my car "blew" off and slammed into their car really isn't that exciting to me.

Blue is right. I have seen all the reproduction windows out there, and they are all flat and shapeless. The rolled edge on the front is very important to their overall appearance, and the repro's all have a beveled edge at best.

I have learned through secret sources that the molding shop has been informed of the Daytona show dates, and if they don't get some orders filled before that the villagers will take up pitchforks and torches. LOL
