I'm very eager to see the result of these....and to see them in my hands... After 2 years of waiting...that was one of the major "missing link" of my restoration "project"...

From what I have been told, there is no need to add a flex agent to a basecoat/clearcoat.

I have been looking in to painting mine as well. I asked the flex agent question. The painter said flex agent was used long ago back when paints were brittle and it was required to paint the new (then) flexible bumper panels. According to him the base coat clear coat today can be twisted in to a cork screw (exaggeration) and have no problems with cracking or delam.

It's probably way too early for a question like this, but is there any chance of having a set shipped before it gets the matrix painted? I'd like to add a graphic instead of the GT emblem, then send it back for the black paint to be applied.
See what I told you... it seems like everything happens in Califorina! I guess I need to pack up the wagon and start heading east. Anybody have a spare room and know of a job that lets me watch TV all day? When these start production, I possibly will buy. I am wanting a blue set also. Glad to see this idea is getting somewhere. There are still too many Fieros in the world without quarter windows. ------------------ Got Blue?

Hey! no news. I have been on a job for a couple weeks but I am expecting some news right about now. Normally I would have been bugging people for updates but I have been busy trying to make a little green. I have no doubt that the test molds will produce some notable news good or bad with in a week. Maybe a couple days maybe a week and a half. Soon though. I will have a fast call tuesday to see whats up either way though.

OK Minor update. Yesterday I was told that The mold was put to use. I have not seen the product of that nor has anything gone through the cnc to be trimmed. On monday I plan on stopping by to check them out.
Just on more step on a big staircase. In truth had I known this would take so long and have so many tiny little hurtles I would not have started it but... I have and I don't quit. Besides things are looking good.

No I didn't. I'm stuck on this damned to hell job doing other people jobs now. I did my job plus I did it with massive overkill as usual. I will be finished very shortly one way or another though and will have more time to push our agenda.
I did speak to them on the phone though and they want me to come down and see the first one. From what I am told it really came out great. Definitely don't have a flat looking panel. I am going to go out there maybe next Wed with a GT that has no windows and a GT with installed OEM windows and also an OEM original not installed to get an idea if we nee to make any adjustments or not.
Is there anyone in the San Jose Area with Good OEM panels on their car that would like to come out and be a part of the decision process? I don't have a GT with Good panels installed right now so any help would be great and also I really want some input from others.

I have one with one good one on the passenger side and the driver's side in the house; an OEM replacement I have been delaying installing, if that will work.

Are you SURE you don't want to use Eric again? He seems like such a diligent and competent worker...

Why not bring the set to the GGF meeting. You will have 4 or 5 GTs there to do test fitting on.

Hey that would be great. I have a doctors appointment in the morning but was hoping to get this done right after. Are you available to be in Milpitas Thursday early afternoon? I twon't take long, maybe an hour. I can't be out much more than that anyway cause I don't wanna get worn out and have a relapse.
You could be the first to comment on the shape and the comparison to the originals.

You are in Tenn. Don't you mean "pack up the wagon and start heading West"? Unless you are going to take the really really long way around..........

Well, after all the difficulties that seem to have plagued others in attempts to recreate these windows I have a new found appreciation for those difficulties. Pokey has an original that has not seen 20 years in the weather and there are differences that have crept in over the years with my originals which have suffered the elements. My two OEM driver side panels didn't even match each other. One sat flat in the body opening and the other had a slight bow which required slight pressure to fit the opening properly. It does appear from looking at the three OEM samples we had that there was some case by case trimming and fitting of individual windows either after being created or during attachment to the car on the assembly line.
What Pokey had so far were the first three untrimmed pulls from the passenger side mold. My opinion is they're about 90-95% there. If you were not looking for the imperfections they would have looked perfect. There were a few anomalies in the mold (we're talking 100ths of an inch here) that will be corrected and trimming, finishing and screen printing how-tos remaining.

Sounds good so far Anyhow perfection doesn't exist . I worked 25 years in plane engine and we had to adjust the machines all the time . Pieces were close but not perfect . Even with million dollars machines ( Pratt&Whitney Canada )

Well Monday Oz is going to trim one of the panels to test for flexibility. I'm hoping after it is loose of the extra plastic it will bend like an original. It is virtually the same thickness as originals but to me it seems more ridged. As you know our cars themselves are not exactly the most precise feats of engineering so a little flexibility in these panels is needed as was demonstrated Friday with Richard and Todd. BTW Richard gets the first set out the gate for his efforts and reporting.
I decided after thorough examination and comparison to send the mold back for a little bit of hand massage before we pull anymore pieces. I found seven areas that needed attention. Like Richard said we are talking 100Th's of an inch difference. You can't really see them as much as feel them or see the light reflect differently off them. Honestly we could pull them off right now and they would be better than any others I have seen. We definitely got the right curves and actually we're gonna tone it down ever so slightly. I know this adds time to the project but I am not interested in making acceptable or good panels. We are shooting for OEM or better and we are going to get better than OEM. Our panels should come out all the same unlike originals that vary from batch to batch. There won't be any rough areas around the sides where tabs were trimmed like the originals. The bottom lip will be smooth without that little ridge found on originals.
The tint is something I was really worried about but it appears to be a great match. 30/30 acrylic is what we are using. Unless we find it is not flexible enough we are sticking to it. Costs of Acrylic have gone up 12 percent twice sense starting this but that is beyond our control. Once we get this ball rolling I will investigate possibly ordering large amounts of material up front to help lower the cost. I'm told maybe just an annual order will suffice instead paying for it all at one time and then storing it on sight. If they take an annual order then they may set our price and just send it as we need it. That is what I'm hoping for.
I brought the very first pull home for posterity. After we get into production I think I will have everyone involved sign it and then hang it on my shop wall.
Special Thanks to Richard and Todd for coming out and giving us such great input. I would like to get as many people as I can to be involved in these. They will be something we all had a hand in creating. Many minds and many hands can create many things

I have a quick question about how well the material will stand up to the elements. You mention they seem a bit more rigid than the originals, do you anticipate they will spider crack like the originals did? Thanks.
