I know it has been a while since I gave you all an update on this one so here you go. I have been working on so many things as of late that it is hard to get the time to get this one done but I have started on it. it still has a way to go yet but soon.
I do have a question for all who are interested in this one though, when I did my DD I wanted to shorten the bumper as much as I could so I did not use the rear metal part of the factory bumper.
Like this pic.
I can make the new one the same way so it looks the way mine does or I can move it back farther to use part of the factory set up but keep in mind that the bumper will be almost 3" longer to do this. IMO I think it would look like crap and I am only going to make one version of this one so please let me know what you all would like and majority rules. I should have this one done soon for molds.
here is a pic of the new one in progress I have made improvements over the one on the DD that I think you all will like. D.

I prefer the shortened version myself, I never liked how the stock one jutted out from the body. Shorter = more modern look, IMO. Plus less weight. If safety was an issue for some, welding in a crash bar between the frame rails might be possible?
I noticed you changed the size/spacing of the vents in the new bumper. I likey. Can't wait for this!

Hey Dean. Sorry I missed seeing you wanted an answer on the length. As I said in my post of 04-02, I am in for a bumper. The short one certainly looks better & I can live with having to redo my exhaust tips. Are you concerned with the loss of strength or protection if someone bumps you from the rear (not a crash). I'd hate to lose my tail light panel & LED tail lights from a little bump that would only damage the bumper if the bar was still there. Do you see a way to add in some protection in front of the shorter bumper? Harry

yes you can install a bar behind the bumper if you want. the chassis mounts are still their and they will provide a little protection.
Update.... today I was able to get the belt molding made from the mold and it came out great so we worked on the mounts ans the sides so I can start mounting the main part and glass it all together. it does take a lot of time to do all of this but I hope to have it done by the end of next week. I will keep you all posted. D.

here are some pic's of the new bumper being built. keep in mind it still has a long way to go yet but I will get it done and I know you all will like it. I have made inprovements from the first one. D.
the new belt line molded from a stock Fiero rear so everything fits like it should.
and the main body of the bumper still with a long way to go yet.

OK all the bumper is getting close to being done. as I said before this one is going to be even nicer than the last one. some of the things I have done with this one are better lower vents as well as crisper lines. I was also able to move it in a little closer to the body as well. the mounts on the top are set up like stock and the bottom mounts are set up so that you can bolt into one of the factory holes threw one of the vents where you can black it out and never see it. and one last thing it does have enough room on the top part of the frame mount to install a crash bar behind it as well.
keep in mine that these pic's are progress pic's and it still has a way to go yet and this one is the plug for the molds to be made from. D.
I would like to have the plug done by this weekend but all I can do is try.

That z beam is a very important part of the frames structure. Not wanting to criticize your work but how do you mean to deal with the possibility of being rear ended?
Like I said before it will require mods to the car that may not be for everyone. I could have moved it back to keep the stock brace but it would have looked bad with a large shelf on the top. if you ever look at any kit car or highly moded Fiero you will see that that part has been taken off or something else was installed in it's place. I made mention of this early on for those of you who want function over form. I do my best to provide both but you do have to walk a fine line. this mod will not be for everyone. it will be in line with moded ricers and trucks with no rear bumper. D.

Great news today. the prototype bumper is finaly all one part today I was able to glass it all together and now I just need to body work the corners and clean the whole thing up a little. I will have it done for the open house for all to see and then it is off to make molds and parts from it. I will get more pic's of it this week. D.

I would like to offer a suggestion to anyone planning on buying this bumper. Check your local laws about reflectors. Most states require rear bumper reflectors unless your tail lights have them built in. The stock Fiero GT Tail lights do not have them. You may have to find reflectors that you like and place them to your liking.

they would be easy to install but I do not know what ones to use that people would like I could use. I will see what I can come up with and post some pictures and see what you all think. D.

Yes! How did I miss this? I knew you were working on something but I totally missed the progress.
Is there another thread with these FS now? I looked at Fiero Fiberglass and it isn't listed on the website. I've got to stop stressing out my wife. But oh, the aero! The flat rear dramatically reduces drag, which is the main reason I'll buy this. Oh, and it'll go perfect with Amida's new Fi512 nose.
How difficult would it be to make one that would accommodate rounded exhaust tips? I'd be willing to pay a little extra for the additional glass work. PM me if you're willing to consider this. Otherwise, I could probably to the modification myself. The bumper's lines would work well with my existing ground effects.
Beautiful work either way!!

the single tip would not be that hard to do but I have been slammed with other cars the last few weeks and have not had a chance to finish it and get it boxed to send out . I hope to have it sent out in the next few days. Dean
