i hate to bring this back to the top but i thought i would throw out a couple ideas on how the eclipse forum i used to be on worked.. 1. pictures are required... no pictures ad gets removed 2. prices are required... saves everyone time.. no prices ad gets removed 3. in the picture you must put a paper with your user name in the picture with the parts this is to help against fraud. only reason i brought this back up is because i was just looking at a few ads with no prices and it drives me nuts. thats like an ad on craigslist without a number.. if it has no number to call i wont consider buying.

Well if you decide that a new rule is needed. This might work for an easy and simple solution Cliff. Well easy for you, not for me. You seem to have superior interweb skills.
Make a posting rule that won't allow you to make another post if you are the user who made the last post in a thread within the past 72 hours. Isn't that what the edit button is for? There are always exceptions and sometimes it is perfectly reasonable to follow up a post where you are still the last person who said something. So give us a few (maybe 5) "free bump" points that we can use on any thread at any time by clicking on a button on the "post reply" page. The points would only need to be used if you were submitting a post to a thread that has you down as the author of the last post AND the 72 hour clock hasn't expired. Reset the number of points daily or weekly or whatever interval you feel best accomplishes your goal to reduce forum spamming. Allow more points for supporting vendors as they may need them.
This wouldn't have to be limited to the mall either.
The negative of this would be that people sometimes create separate posts to break up the long-winded replies or they make separate posts to reply to each comment others have posted. They would have to consolidate it all into one post.
Regardless, I'm sitting on the side of the fence that says we don't need a new rule. If somebody is abusing the site we have the ability to send them a PM and if we feel justified we can even give them a negative rating in an extreme case.
I just get these ideas sometimes and need to share them before my head explodes...

I see no problem with many posts by an individual for items for sale. That is what the mall is for. What would be the difference if one person posts a window motor, another posts a engraved plenum, another posts a radio surround, OR one person posts all 3 things for sale? It makes no real difference if its all from one person or not, they are 3 items that people may want to buy.
A better solution, in my opinion of course would be to allow more than a measly 3 pages before something disappears. I am on MANY forums, and a moderator on a couple of them, and this is the only one that has a seemingly unlimited posts with just "BUMP!". This is almost necessary on here, for fear of an item disappearing from the individual forum sections. The other forums to not have the endless "BUMP" posts, as there is no fear of a topic disappearing. In fact, on a couple of the forums I am on, bumping a post is against the forum rules.
If I may ask, what exactly is the reasoning behind the extremely limited pages in each of the topics? I mean they get moved to the archives and thus still taking up the same hard drive space. 100% of the other forums I am on maintain every post as "active". They just automatically get moved down the topic sections when people do not reply to them, and the topic dies out. Even then, you can go to page 20, posts a reply in that topic, and it will go back to the top of the list.

Just my thoughts and I don't want to see things changed within the mall, but I am surprised that I was singled out for posting my items,
And yet you're baaaaaaaaaack... Not as bad as before but 6 threads in a row bumped by you. And now chester is trying to "take over". ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
Sorry didn't realize that you where appointed the "Pennocks posting police" I think I've been here a little while to know what the rules are. This is why I'm out of this hobby and dont frequent this site anymore. If you don't have something constructive to say then shut up.

Its a shame to see that nothing has changed around here over all these years. Its always the same people that think they are high and mighty and above the rest. I think that if Cliff has an issues with my posts, that he is capable of addressing me himself.
Thanks for making my day...

All I asked for (& others agree) was a little consideration of other folks trying to sell their parts too. Is that really so hard? Seems to me your attitude is why a lot of folks don't frequent this forum... This is not constructive?

Well we try to treat others as we would like to be treated. Cliff can't spend 24 hrs. a day policing the forums - he has a life. And I still see no need for him to change anything. We just all need to try to be a little more considerate of others. Heck I'm broke & need to sell some parts BAD to pay my electric but you don't see me bumping my thread(s) up every day or even week or month. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

Don't need to. It got that way (the red part) very early after I joined, from toddster's BS & him & his minions trying to get me banned. He didn't like the fact that I exposed him in several lies after an auction on ebay - & having his friends at ebay DELETE all his neutral & negative feedback. (then he had the nerve to say quote "my feedback speaks for itself"!)

So 13 is not excessive? How many other people did you bump off with 13 threads? Hummmm... that would probably be 13 people that you bumped off so that they in turn - if they want to sell their parts - now have to bump their threads.

Unless you want to buy something I'd suggest you just STFU..
Everyone bumps their posts. I just have an excessive amount of Fiero stuff that I collected over the last 14+ years to get rid of. Sorry but untill I see that you are a forum moderator, you know what you can do with yourself.
Have a nice day, no really I mean it... :-)
Hope things get better for you..I hate people that PMS...Especially men.

You just did something wrong, you circumvented the censor which is against forum rules. What an ironic post. I needed a good chuckle.

So are you insinuating this has been a bad place to be "all these years"? If there's one thing I hate... let me rephrase that... If there's one thing I truly and utterly despise, is when something (small) happens not to the liking of an individual, then that individual projects that on the entire forum and then insinuates that's what the forum is about. Just wondering why you don't make a single post with ALL of your stuff for sale in it? I am quite sure anyone going thru the trouble of clicking thru all of your posts of stuff for sale that may be interested in buying would think it easier? Then when you bump it at least everyone else's stuff is still on page one... You got two or three stereos for sale, can't you make one stereo post or one for all the yellow and silver stuff you got for sale? At least then someone MIGHT be interested in buying the whole damn interior from you knowing what it all entails.... Just some suggestions... Good luck with your sales!! Peace

Please let me apologize to you personally. You are correct. This forum IS a great resource for Fiero people. It is THE BEST resource out here for the Fiero. However, I am not the only one that has been attacked by childish posters thinking that they are "forum moderators" and are out to stir up trouble. I have been on this forum since 2001, that’s over 9 years. I have seen this happen over and over and have heard this from many of my peers. I digress and apologize if I insulted you but I stand my ground. I feel like I was attacked personally and that my integrity was in question. All of this would have been avoided if the individual would have kindly said, hey, you know that book goes for 5 dollars shipped? Or if he simply PM'ed me. Instead it was put like this "Might want to check before sending money...(I'm sure you can find his email somewhere...)". That insulted me. I'm not here to rip anyone off. I'm just trying to pass these small Fiero treasures on to other enthusiasts that will appreciate the items for what they are. I posted a lot of items for sale and have a bunch more. I figured I'd give the community a shot at what I have amassed over the 14+ years that I've been in the hobby. Tha Driver is a forum member like myself. He is not a moderator. He is a member.
With that said it’s not a perfect world. There have been many that have either left the forum or are lurkers because of things like this. Myself being one of them. I lurk in the shadows and see some of the drama that is not necessary. All I did was posted items for sale. Now I'm hogging the for sale section of the forum? I didn't see any rules on maximum posts in the for sale section, or anything about not bumping your items to the top. I elected to give the folks here a shot at these items before either going to Ebay or plain throwing them away. Is that a bad thing? It appears that I'm not the first one that has been attacked by "Tha Driver" and some feel the same as me.
The only thing that I have done wrong is tried to pass some of this stuff along to others that may need or want these items and I got attacked for both my price and the quantity of posts. I feel that is wrong and I stand my ground.
Some members here attack others for frivolous things. I feel that if they minded their own business and did the best that they could to contribute to the community, we would have a much better atmosphere and environment on this forum and we would keep a lot of the veterans that have been in the hobby for many years.
Once again I mean no disrespect to you. Actually I commend you in the efforts and due diligence that you have provide to the Fiero community by keeping this forum alive. Just in this stage of m life I take offense to posters like "Tha Driver". I could have thought of a thousand better ways to say what he did.
So, with that said, I appreciate all you have done for the Fiero community. The forum is a wonderful place for Fiero information and knowledge. Not so when people attack others for frivolous things...
Please pm me and let me know if it’s ok to post the rest of my items..
Regards,
Chester.

I will do that. Personally I just skim through the headers to look for what I need and don't go into them unless there is something that catches my eye. I will combine my posts.
This was the first thoughfull and civil post about this subject. I appreciate it.
Thanks again,

Well Chester here's where the problem is. Please re-read my post. You completely misunderstood what I wrote. When I said to check before sending money, & to try & find an email, I WAS TALKING ABOUT MARC CORBIN - because I didn't have an email to post for him & the info I gave was pretty old (at least as far as my records). Why would that have been about you when links to contact you are right there? That's the problem with the printed word. Too often the reasoning/attitude is lost & then when you think something is about you when it's clearly not everyone gets their feathers in a ruffle. Sorry you misunderstood both my reason for posting & that I wasn't talking about you on the "before sending money" thing. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
I don't mean to reiterate what everyone else is saying, but 25 out of 37 of the page one threads, as of now, are from "Chester", "fieroparts.com", or "jaskispyder". All I can say is I'm glad I'm not anywhere near the point I need to sell my swap leftovers yet.
Cliff,
First I will say this place is awesome, I've been on here for a couple years even before I got a user, but a few poeple are getting a little obnoxious in the mall. I have some PHP, SQL, and a little bit of ASP expirence if you would like some help. I wouldn't mind donating a handful of evenings.
I don't mean to reiterate what everyone else is saying, but 25 out of 37 of the page one threads,
LOL... No kidding! AND allot of the items are of the same catagory, why not group them together in one thread. This way, the thread would get bumped more often by others posting questions...
If you're mad people have more parts for sale than you, get/sell more parts. JohnWPB put it well as always...it's no different for one person to have 3 different things for sale than 3 different people have one thing for sale as far as providing a service (Cheap parts, or just parts period after 25 years).
Categorizing is important, though. If I had a set of 2.8 valve covers, a set of 2.8 exhaust manifolds, and a bunch of other parts off a 2.8, I'd make an ad saying "2.8l Partout" or something instead of
V6 EGR Solenoid
V6 Valve Covers
V6 Firewall side exhaust manifold
.....and on and on.
If you have 30 or 50 or 100 truly different parts that anyone might actually give a damn about, I say post them. I've tried it both ways many times and single item ads sell stuff a LOT better than a huge combo-ad does.

Well, that's not entirely true. I have always said I want this forum to be self-moderating (and it mostly is), meaning everyone is a moderator of some sort. You, me, Tha Driver, everyone.

Yes, I think it's OK to post multiple items at once here. But yes, I also agree with others that you should at least try to group items together so to keep the number of posts to a minimum. It is of course utter nonsense to put everything in a single post, but putting everything in its own post is unnecessary as well. As for bumping threads, I have no problem with that either as long as my first criterium has been met: that you have tried to group items together so you are not bumping a page full of threads.

You have some nerve including me in your post! 4 items at this point and only a few more than that a few months ago, and only by bumping those items did they sell! That’s what the flipping mall is for!!! It’s funny that only a select few get called out on things. All of the other (car/truck) forums I go to don’t have these issue, they have moderators! I sell Fiero parts for a living (it’s a real business) and have been for over 22 years, longer than anyone else, so forgive me if I have 4-5 or more items for sale at one time!

Paul, you need something better to do than count the number of items I have listed in the Mall. This is utterly stupid and childish and frankly, I have provided some great parts to people who needed them, many of which are no longer available from anywhere. Time for you to stop with the "look what he posted", as frankly it is none of your business how I sell my items as long as I don't break any rules of the forum, which I have not. Geez, this is getting old!

It's not a big thing. It's just that you were so adamant about being singled out the first time & then when chester does the same thing we were talking about before I noticed that you had bumped six of your own threads in a row to bring them up over other folks threads. If you had at least spaced out the bumping I would never had noticed. Have you not considered that others can't sell their parts when a very few KEEP bumping their threads to the top? If I listed all the parts I could sell individually I could take over the entire first three pages. I don't because I have consideration of the other posters. Trust me I REALLY need the money right now! All I'm doing is trying to bring it to everyone's attention to allow EVERYONE to be able to list & sell their parts. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

I bumped (relisted) some of my unsold items. Unlike you, I don't take inventory of who is posting and how many times. I didn't even bother to see what others have posted as I am not looking to buy parts. So I don't know if you or joe blow is bumping or posting a bunch of things at once and I don't care what they do. Also, anytime someone posts or bumps an item, it will put it to the top, that is how it works. I can't change it and I may bump an item after a few days, when it has dropped off the pages. You seem to be concerned with one person selling multiple items, but why should it matter who sells an item, it isn't the item that matters? I did combine many of my items but I listed a few things separately as they didn't fit well with the general listing (example... I know people are looking for ashtray doors, so I listed them separately so they can be found easily).
So far, EVERYONE (including YOU) can sell and list their parts. You just happen to be viewing the page (which seems to be a lot) when I bumped my items, or maybe it was a slow day... either way, I am following the rules and not abusing the Mall use area. I see MANY other people bump their threads to the top and I have not prevented ANYONE from posting their items (as that isn't even possible). As I said, you are spending way too much time worrying about this non-issue and frankly you are over-reacting and you make comments about "It's not a big thing".... well YES IT IS, as you are trying to negatively single out people who use the Mall to sell items in a way YOU believe is not right, yet no forum rules are broken. I believe this discussion is a waste of time and and a waste of space and I don't like someone making a big stink over something (which you did) then acting like it is "no big thing".... I don't follow your threads and waste forum space to point out things I don't like about your posts, but you do this to others.... why do you feel you have to do this... nevermind, I don't care and based on the discussion within the thread, most of the others don't either. Please stop harassing members as they follow the official mall rules, that is all I ask.

Well I don't "take inventory" either, but when it's blatantly obvious that someone is "spamming" the mall it's hard not to notice. I'm not saying you were spamming this time but another was & that's when I noticed your multiple bumps all at the same time. I really don't care if anyone sells a kajillion parts as long as they let others use the mall too. I do check the forum several times a day as I have to take breaks to relieve back, knee, & several other pains. As I've said before: all I'm trying to do is point out that we all need to consider others & allow them to post their parts without having to constantly log on & bump their threads to keep up with a few others who constantly bump theirs to stay on top.
I didn't mean anything personal by it. Had it been anyone else I assure you I would have posted their screen name, I have no bias towards you or anyone on the forums. I posted on this thread because I agreed with the author's topic. Your threads just happened to be towards the top and grouped together, you definitely did not have the most. I also ment no humor in my post, I mentioned a select few because there were only a select few doing it, if there were five authors total for the first page, thats how many I would have posted.
