When you get back... What would the cost of the basic chop after purchase of these windows? Would it be the basic chop minus the fee of an extra set of lexan windows that come standard? I've been on the fence, but glass is a strong motivator.
Thanks, Greg
I haven't set a price on a Chop with the glass windows because the windows are not yet available.
However your formula would be the way I'd be looking to calculate it.
I Would love to do a chop with the glass windows but being without a job right now makes it kinda hard to drop the dough on a chop. If I could barter in a trade I'd be in on it in a heartbeat.
You need a 2001 S10 Xtreme for a shop truck? LOL

I've got to go thru all my notes & get an exact count later today.
Several people have sent checks & credit card numbers. I haven't deposited the checks or ran the CC's thru yet but I'll be doing that next week.
If anyone else wants to get hooked up on this then they need to contact me within the next week.
Those that haven't sent a check or called with a CC number, need to do that this next week.
If those people get paid up in time, I'm planning to take the order to the glass place the week of May 11th.
Right now, I'm not planning on posting the names of payment status of those who are ordering because that will just subject them to the hate that I see everyday.

hey archie, if you don't want to print out eveyones name who have paid up for these windows, perhaps you could send them each a pm to let them know they're paid up and on the list. that way they'll know they'll be getting glass and their identies are "protected"

Archie, I've not received from you a response to my earlier inquiry:

Because I definitely want to be part of the "group buy" on these chopped glass side windows, I've taken the liberty of initiating within the past five minutes a PayPal payment of $650.00 to the e-mail address listed on the "Contact Information" page of your website.

By the way, madcurl, as I'd mentioned earlier in this thread, your chopped Fieros are actually what inspired in me the crazy idea to consider having a chopped-top Fiero as a year-round, daily driver --- one which even will see automatic car washes during the winter. All this will occur in a climate sufficiently harsh that winter-time, hand-washed cars for a DD like mine simply are just not readily feasible.
Said simply, my silliness is all your fault.

Sorry, I missed your post asking for the paypal info. However, you did send it to the right account & it has been rec'd.
I have to take my wife to the hospital in chicago tomorrow for her monthly treatment. When I get back, tomorrow late afternoon, I'll bring the list count up to date send out some info to everyone involved.

I called the guy who's making them & riht now he says the production time is 8 weeks.
After discussing the exact details of the windows with him, he says they can make the windows curved the way we want them.
Their shop is open for a tour & I can drop off the masters in person.
Ideally I'd like to get there to drop the order off by late next week.
If a few more people would like to jump in, now would be the time.
By this time tomorrow, I will be emailing or PM'ing all of those on the list so far. If you think you're on the list & don't get a message by tomorrow, please call or email & let me know that I missed you.

OK, I've got the scoop on tinting for the windows.
The original quote was for a stock "green" tint.
They also can do a standard gray & a dark gray like you'd see in the side windows on a minivan.
Here's the rub.
Our original quotes were for 25 sets of windows. Right now we're at 17 sets spoken for.
For each different color of tinting they have to run them seperately thru the whole process. The heat treating is different for each of the different colors etc.
In other words for each different color they would upcharge 25 to 30% if the lot is under 25 sets.
I know this sucks but it's what I was told.
To keep this thing on track & affordable, we need to all agree on what color we want.

if somone could help with a few questions, first off ive been lurking but finally registered to ask a few questions..im planning a fiero chop because my 16 year old son has seen my work and pics of previous stuff before he was old enough to remember.im not new to chops, have about 30 under my belt...no fieros but corvettes ,elcaminos ,big sedans old rods ,trucks you name it,the killer of these have always been the longevity of lexan side windows, scratching fadeing and windshield wipers destroying the lexan windshields made me start lean back chops on the front and rears .the lexan was making customers and me as well not completely satisfied with the end result, sealing has never been the problem but replacing the windows after a short time because of the look is my concern,i have watched archies work for some time and have been impressed as usual, i love the idea of glass for the sides and as i havent started the chop yet im sure i can make the top fit the glass ,the cost is more than i care to spend but would be nice....how long are you guys getting with the lexan on the sides. ive been able to make the lexan seal but not happy with its life expectancy...just trying to weigh my options and get in on the buy before its too late if thats my only option ,sorry for the length ,thanks ,Robby Robinson

From my point of view, the Lexan is without a doubt the best alternative to glass. I personally have a hard time getting accustomed to the scratches that eventually appear about four to six months and then the loss of my own time taking the car to have them buffed out only to come back again. I am probably also somewhat of a snob and just want real glass in my car. It's almost like the car isn't finished with the Lexan. It's like a detail is missing.

IMHO, I think you're being w-a-y too hard on yourself, for at least two reasons:
First, the "snobbery" you'd mentioned, and having a Fiero, just don't seem to mesh at all well.
Second, I wouldn't suggest attempting to impress anyone by announcing that one's car has glass side windows.
All razzing aside, rodneybooth, thank you very much for helping to instigate this group buy on glass side windows for a V8-Archie chop. It's removed my last excuse for not having one.
Its shock value alone as a year-round, "daily driver" also should prove to be great fun in my neigborhood.
Thanks again for your efforts on this.
