Do you or anyone have any picture's AFTER the chop of the 1/4 window's inside of the rear clip... I want to see how it is finished off inside there.... ohh, and what about a ABOVE picture of the sunroof chop from the outside...???
Yeah Joel, I never thought that the white coupe would become a V8 Chop Top. You can take some of the credit, after experiencing the GBCT, I either had to buy it or recreate a replica of it
Steve, I think I have posted nearly every picture of the car that I took during our 1 day together between picking it up at Archie's and dropping it off at Pete's, but the area inside the 1/4 windows is filled by a custom fiberglass panel that Archie creates. It looks like stock, only chopped

Thank's... Are you now the only Texas choptop now you think...??
Until Will Martin finishes his t-top Chop top I believe mine will be the only one in Texas. Actually I believe my car is the only chop top in the country of Canada right now. It seems that most of Archie's chop top customers are in the midwest area, except for me and Curley.
I don't believe I sent Jscott a picture of just the oil cooler. Here is some info on it.
The oil cooler is the one recommended to my by Rockcrawl for its size and strong design as well as built in end mounting brackets. It is from a 700 series turbo volvo. The oil cooler is a very important part of the over all cooling system for an alluminum engine like the 4.9. Here is a picture of the same one used in Iannoy's car, Linenoise also has the same.
Pete
Thanks for the info. Question: how much cooler do you think oil is after using it? How much is the cost?
JScott, are you going to use the other side vent for air filter?
I'm not exactly sure how the intake is going to look, but I think it's on the left. Pete is going to figure it out, I have confidence.
Steve I'm not liking those smileys and your sudden interest in Chop Tops...I think something's up
I thought the oil cooler was mounted on the left side? Anyway I thought you were going to use some type of CRX air filter system that some Fiero owners have used.

looking at the picture (which I have daily...) it look's to be on the driverside... Pete, Jonathan..?? anyone..?? whaaa! I hate being alone!
I drove it home tonight! Jscott can update his car and pictures after he sees them. It is still a work in progress on my end though, time to get some miles on it before things are covered up.

Cool!! The FIRST(and not last...lol)4.9L choptop is on the road! How is it running...??

As Archie first pointed out the first 4.9 Choptop is on the road...Canadian Roads!!
The intake is on the left, along with the oil cooler
Look's even better then I remembered... Thanks for the new pic's!! It might be on Canadian road's... But, it still has Texas plate's on it! That's 2 1/2 choptop's in/from Texas..
I never really like the first pics of the 4.9, they always look so 2 dimensional, messy and dirty but what can you do, thats why they are just update pictures, and not pictures from a show.
another pic of Jscotts car.

JScott, I stopped at Pete's a few weeks ago to pick up some parts and saw your car just after it had arrived. BEAUTIFUL! I dream of a chop someday, when time and money permit.
If you crossd at Detroit, you drove right by my how. I live in Rodney, Ontario between London and Chatham. My 85 looks almost identical to the way yours "used to look". Good work Pete and Archie!

Thanks Jay, I'm glad you like the car. Like I said earlier, I only spent a day with it as a chop top and haven't seen it at all as a V8, so I'm relying on others for feedback as to how the car looks, (minus the multi-color thing, I know that could look better)
I was going to unveil the car only after it was completed but I knew someone in Ontario would have seen a Texas Chop Top driving around and the cat would have been out of the bag anyway

Make us wait !?? Ahhhhh J that would have been cruel and unusual punishment !
How soon before you get it back and start livin the dream ?
The 4.9 looks a lot better in there than the duke. So when do you plan to bring it back? Are you going to trailer it back, or fly up there and drive back?
Originally posted by jscott1: Okay, what exactly does this mean?? Is the SmoothGT included in the Texas Chop Top count???
Well, I wish! I was and will alway's count the GBCT as being a Texas Fiero... and the 1/2 is Will's... hehe! Was SmoothGT at Archie's..?? Heck, I can't even afford paint...

Pete is going to hold onto the car for a few more weeks and make sure everything is ready for a fly in drive out kind of deal. Compared to a duke I think a lawnmower engine would look good (Just kidding you duke lovers, I still have a few dukes in my inventory).
And Steve, my plan is to get paint on it as soon as possible when I get back

The offer stands if you want a chance to show it off on the way home
120 miles on the V8. With only one bruised ear from hitting my head while getting at lunch Must remember roof is lower, and a few bald head streaks on the sunroof that I will have to clean.

That is some of the funniest sh!t I have read in awhile... HAHAHA!! A helmet will prtect head getting in and also prevent the scalp streak's on the sunroof...

Thanks Pete, I appreciate all the miles (kilometers) put in on testing. And I think I bumped my head getting in the 1st time so don't feel bad. I just checked mail...no new pics

I will snap some more pics off soon. It's just that I have been very busy driving YOUR car rather than fixing it. Like I mentioned before the car started up and ran from the first turn of the ignition key as if it was just shut off. But soon it will be time to attack the finer details instead of chasing Her86GT around the city.

HeHe, yeah....... After a few of those bruises, you'll learn to put your right forearm up (like you're protecting yourself from a driving rainstorm) to where the roof meets the "A" pillar, then just duck under your arm. I learned that real quick on the GBCT & still do it all the time even on stock Fieros.
Reminds me of a story (you know you're getting old when everything reminds you of a story). Several years ago I chopped the roof on a 85 GT chassis for a guy who was installing a 246 Dino body kit. He delivered the car to me totally stripped inside & out except for the drivers seat. I dropped the car off at his place in South Bend, IN. I unloaded it from my trailer & drove it a few feet up the driveway. I got out & we stood around talking for a while. I told him about the forearm thing & told him He'd have to be careful until he reinstalled the interior trim above the door. Right after that he started to get in the car for the first time to pull it into the garage & you guessed it, cut his head wide open on the metal clip that would have held the trim pc. on if the trim was on. He called me several days later & told me it took 6 stitches to close that one up.

Thanks for the tip Archie. Those little clips can be deadly, I think I sliced my head on one when I was doing my t-top. Didn't need stitches thank goodness.
