I am looking into a new set of wheels. I would show off my current wheel / tire combo, but I cant get pip to work right...?
I have a question about the possible new set of wheels: the wheel is 17" x 7" with 5.625" or 42 mm offset backspacing. Is that backspacing ok for our Fieros?
What size tires should I be looking for? I was thinking probably 225/45/17? Is that too tall or not tall enough?
Is there a rule of thumb for rim size, tire width and the required offset needed for front and back that avoids fender rub? If my goal is to fill the wheel well with a bit of tire stickout, what's the best match up? I've seen cars with 17s in front and 18s in back....I've seen 19s all around. I think I'd prefer to go 17 or 18 combo to maximize the rubber w/out looking too thin or having the ride too rough.
So if I went 17x8s on front with say...225/45 in front and a 18x8 in back with 255/40s....what offset would be ideal? Have folks experimented with adapters? Finding rim setups in the 5x100 configuration is tough! But I've heard alot of good and bad with adapters.
Thanks for the help!! Pictures are helpful, but I'm wondering if theres a formula to stick to in determining proper fit. I'd be looking to do this for an 87'.
There is no formula for buying ready made wheels. Tire and wheel fitment is almost an art. The problem as you know there are not a lot of selections for 5 x 100 and even less when you have different sizes front and rear.
Unless you go custom wheels, it's nearly impossible to find the perfect fitment.
Start with trying to keep the overall diameter the same as stock.
Although I will tell you that a Fiero won't look right unless you go one size bigger in the rear. This will change your gearing so not recommended for drag racing, but it looks better.
Offset, on an 88 in the front, the more the better. Not such a concern in the rear. I don't know about 84-87. Most offsets are between 35 and 40 mm. Probably won't run into any issues unless you stray a lot from that.
Anything over 27 inches in diamter and you will have issues, so try to stay below that. Other than that run any choices you have by Madcurl, he can do these calculations in his head.

here are mine and i think theyre ok but i would rather have new ones.
im debating painting them. black of course. like this. i have bad photoshop/paint skills lol. but the cailpers are red already so yea. i would like some opinions on painting them and what paint should be used on them if i decide to paint. and i also thought about getting some of that spray paint that is temporary car paint. you can just wash it off whenever you want. i could spray them black and see if i like them then if i dont just wash them.

I dig them the way they are. Id worry more about the 4X4 truck like stock ride height

yea i know exactly what you mean lol. but for right now it will have to do. and i rub so many damn curbs im kinda scared to. the back deffinately will get lowered but the front might not. id like to find a used set of lowering springs cheap but when i buy them will be prob in a couple of weeks
16" cam racing, almost new tires. I want to get soome new ones, but I cant find anyone who would want these, and since I live in a barracks room i cant really keep an extra set lying around, lol.

Time to bump this back up springs coming, I've been thinking its time for new wheels. Been leaning toward chrome rim, black mesh. Not a lot to choose from in 5 X100. All the big tire places contract with just a few wheel companies, which sucks because it limits your selection. And the high-rollers sites never even list bolt size, so you find a wheel and then find out it doesn't fit. I wish there was a one stop wheel store, that listed bolt size, backspace, etc. Bottom line, it takes a lot of searching to find wheels.

These are 18" motegi RT5's I think. I'm not sure on the exact model. The offset is 40mm so they are sucked in a bit but it's not to bad. Now I just need some brakes to fill that big space.
HERE'S SOMETHING NEW FOR ALL OF YOU TO SEE. I DO WANT TO STATE THAT ALL ORIGINAL PARTS HAVE BEEN CLEANED, WRAPPED AND PUT IN BOXES FOR STORAGE.
I HAVE AN 88GT ALL MAROON WITH T-TOPS V6 MANUAL. I ALMOST HAVE THE MODIFICATIONS DONE SO THE PICTURES THAT I HAVE ARE "IN THE PROCESS" OF THE INSTALL.
I HAVE HTMOTORSPORTS CUSTOM SUSPENSION PACKAGE ON ALL FOUR. (FRONT) ARE FULLY ADJUSTABLE COIL-OVERS WITH ALUMINUM A-ARMS POWDER-COATED BLACK WITH THE COILS POWDER-COATED RED. A CHROME SHOCK IS IN THE MIX ALONG WITH ALL NEW BUSHINGS AND BALL JOINTS. (REAR) ARE ALSO ADJUSTABLE BUT THEY ARE KONI COIL-OVERS. THEY HAVE BEEN POWDER-COATED TOO. I HAVE THE STUT TOWER BRACE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FROM THE FIERO STORE (CHROME). I ALSO HAVE WILWOOD 4 PISTON CALIPERS WITH 13" DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS ON ALL FOUR TOO. AS FAR AS A COMPLETE RACE PACKAGE, THIS IS REALLY CLOSE TO THE REAL THING.
ANYWAY, NOW ON THE SUBJECT OF THE WHEELS. I HAVE 18" FORGELINES (SP3P). THE FRONTS ARE 7.5" WIDE WITH A 1.5" LIP INCLUDED WITH AN OFFSET OF 40mm. THE REARS ARE 8" WIDE WITH A 2" LIP FOR THE STAGGERED LOOK AND A OFFSET OF 32mm. THEY HAVE BEEN ANODIZED (NOT) POWDER-COATED CENTERS IN A DULL GOLD AND THE LIPS ARE CHROME. I PICKED THE COLORS BECAUSE I WANTED TO REPRESENT THE ORIGINAL COLOR SCHEME. THE TIRE SIZES ARE (FRONT) 215/40/18, (REAR) 225/45/18.
THIS LAST PIC IS THE WISH LIST
I hope the pictures come through okay. if they don't, they are links to Flickr photos.
To clear everyone up on the 88 stock offsets:
FRONT_ 15 X 6 WITH AND OFFSET AROUND 42mm REAR_ 15 X 7 WITH AN OFFSET STAMPED ON THE INSIDE OF 27mm 5/100 OF COURSE
ANYWAY... GREAT LOOKING FIEROS WITH ALL ORIGINAL DESIGNS.
MY NEXT PROJECT IS INSTALLING THE STAGE II SCOOPS THAT I FOUND FROM TIMO.
TALK TO YOU GUYS LATER... MAYBE I'LL SEE YALL AT THE MONTEREY 2007 FIERO FEST!

Ok, as you might have noticed this thread got corrupted and was actually deleted. So I restored it from a backup made monday morning meaning all replies made after that time are lost. Sorry about that.
Edit: I just checked and there weren't any replies made to this thread after the backup was made - well, one and that was the one corrupting the thread so in all probability, no replies were lost.
Compomotive replica wheels on my Countach Project ('84 Fiero chassis). 345/35R15 (yeah... 345) Yokohama's in the back and Pirelli 245/35/R15's in the front.
I wonder what size these are and if the car has been lowered? This is a lot like what I am shooting for with a different style rim. I like it!
