Over the last several days son mattwa and I did a couple a three projects on my 86GT Brake upgrade: Grand Am rotors and calipers all around which were on mattwa's car but he upgraded to Corvette rotors and 88 calipers. Larger booster and master cylinder Steel braided brake lines.
Gen 2 headlight system
Replaced wimpy Fiero horns with ones I took off a Cadillac.
First, the brakes are AMAZING! I never thought a non-88 could have such good brakes. Mattwa says that all new components contributed but the booster makes the most difference. Love the gen 2 headlight system. So much smoother and quieter. Always hated the stock horns as they sounded like the horn on my bike when I was 6.
Have the mostly intact gen 1 harness and the two gen 1 motors if anyone is interested. Drivers motor needs rebuilt, passenger motor is rebuilt. See pics
Replaced my starter after trouble shooting everything else to try to save me from having to do it. Oh well, I'm set for life now (lifetime waranty....)

replaced o-ring on distributor to fix oil leak--clean leaked oil (now am setting code 44)--install u14 stereo to replace my failing after market alpine unit (awaiting Monsoon radio from e-bay)
Charged up the battery today and drove it around the block a couple of times. It's running good, but I need to work on the hood and decklid some more....
Dropped the fuel tank again to remove the pulsator and replace it with the hose and hose clamps that came with the new pump. I won't forget to do that a second time.
I installed some stripes from Paul McKibben. They went on well and look very good to me. Paul is a real patient vendor and helped me as I described what I wanted.
I bought these Tom's Digital GT gauges off E-bay last week. Just finished the installation today. Seller listed them for min. of $450 and no one bid. He relisted for $299 min bid, and no one bid. He listed them for $299 Buy it Now, including shipping, and even though green was not my first choice, I bought them. They had never been installed. Install was pretty straight forward, though I did have to add the GT rally gauge setup, which was plug and play in the 86. Thanks to Tom and the E-bay seller, I now have an accurate tach in my V8 car. It didn't take long to get used to the green, I actually like them . Pictures don't come out very good with the glare, but here are a couple.

Looks good. I think you should paint your radio/hvac bezel black to match.
I am trying to figure out what to do with the radio bezel. I agree, it looks out of place now. The purchase came with the smoke shifter surround, so I do have that covered. Problem is, the shifter cover is held on with double faced tape, so it looks pretty thick when sitting on the original cover. I know Tom offers a plate for the radio area, so it could all match. Or as you suggest, just paint to match.
My children helped me detail the car, inside and out. I purchased replacement door speakers to replace the Kicker components I removed when the car died.
New Infinity speakers going in tomorrow with my amps.
Replaced the exterior door handle on the driver's side, after I did the hinge pins yesterday. Replaced the striker bolt as well..
Instead of working on headlights like I should have been, I had to fix a seized caliper. Looked in my mirror today and nearly had a heart attack when I thought something was on fire.... it was my driver rear brake just roasting hot.
New door lock actuators in... check New door lock switches in... check New door lock relay... check Door lock electrical problem solved... check Door locks work for the first times since 1995... check.

I removed the tint from the door windows. It was old and turning purple. At some point I'll take the tine off the rear window too. & I lubed the headlamps.
BRW, PPG Shopline Grease & Wax remover is good for adhesive removal too.
Fuel pump died while I was charging the AC on my 308 re-body (Original pump from 1986!) New parts on order. Parts should be in Tuesday- then the pain begins….,
My car was running sluggish last few weeks I just put a little Lucas Fuel treatment in the Gas and WOW! amazing power just got unleased and the car revs high willingly and sounds stronger.
Ordered new front coolant tubes & 1" drop ball joints from Rodney Dickman. Plus, I have new visors & headliner kit coming from FieroThomas. Cant wait to get everything installed!
