I moved the battery to the front and modified my air intake and then installed dual Rodney struts and reinforcing bars. No problems since then. WRT the carpet, none of mine have anything othet than the standard Fiero carpet with matching door panels.

That's a popular option, and done often with an engine swap. I haven't found it a problem with my stock 87 GT, but after uninstalling the strut/brace a couple times on the road, I will probably consider it.
Wish I had "stock" carpet. While my Mera interior is really in nice shape, the carpet looks dated. Going to try a "brush up" to see if I can get it looking better.

The VIN on the MERA rear deck lid at least matches what is reported as the vehicle VIN. However, this is a highly modified vehicle (if it is a MERA). I cannot see anyone removing the old power mirrors and controller to substitute a standard Fiero mirror. Rodney, is this vehicle on your MERA database?,
if it is a mera someone took the vitaloni mirrors, the mirror toggle switch, the sail panels are held on by drywall screws, the front light covers are wrong and the hood vent is incorrect. but all that said it looks like a nice car.
that yellow car has been disscussed before here and i believe Rodney has verifyed? not sure why it does not have a mirror controller. I must be wrong. but i have this car in my Ebay saves already. must not have sold the first time. if this is not the same car, i also have what i think is another yellow one that i tried to jones the OEM Mera emblems off them. they said maybe later check back. i let it go. i will go look.
Hey HOLMES do these help?
back later with some info. on that yellow imposter... D

went to look. nope, two different cars. The yellow one was first mentioned in early NOV. and is for resale. the emblems i refered to were from a red one. Which brings up a point. there sure are lot of MERAS for sale all the sudden? can i get a witness? since i got mine i have seen at least 5 different cars change hands. or attempted to but "reserve not met." there were 2 on Autotrader.com a Yellow and a Red. the yellow one on the trader must be the one i was thinking of. its gone. presumably not sold. was there all summer. anyway....what's up with dat? sign of the times...must be. later Dan PS in my email the seller of the yellow one he said that it looked like the pictures he has seen so i think he assumed its a Mera.....me thinks. not with screw on louvers and no controller. plus his rear deck lid looks wierd??? i have been breathing exhaust fumes all day so any wrong statements will be denied. yours in denile- Da-nile ooooooo a play on words. Da-niel

heres a good one. can you guys with stickers, cross reference your stickers with that yellow cars sticker to compare the typewriter imprint. to see if its the same text and type. like on C.S.I. or something...that yellow ones type looks awfully modern. again could just be the fumes?? bye bye D
Yeah, they really do; thanks! Appears you still have the original deck springs (though only one) which attach to that bar. A comment on Rodney's site says that to install his strut/brace on a Mera you must remove the original springs. As I have Rodney's struts, Paul V must have removed the bar when he installed them.
There has been a lot of Mera sales activities on the web--that's been good for me--but probably only because of hard economic times.

Did Meras have both decklid springs when they were assembled or just one?

This is a real Mera that has been modified. The VIN is correct and it is a real Mera.
Gents, you are in the midst of a celebrity...sort of. LOL...I never thought they would post my car, otherwise I would have written a better article. But there it is, in the RockAuto Nov Newsletter:
Rick, I have that bracket-to-spring thingy on both sides of my Mera.
Dan, I was referring to my car. I've never seen a regular Fiero with my interior.
Open question: The large rear vent on the rear lid...what color is yours? I want to re-finish mine, currently its a charcoal gray color, but due to weathering, chips, etc, it looks bad close-up. In pictures of other Mera's, that rear vent looks jet black. Not sure what the original color should be.

They were originally anodized black and over time faded to the silvery color. Many paint them black. If you have a black Mera they look better the silvery black color.
hello all mera ppls, i have made a set of the qtr sails from my molds and now am remaking a sturdier mold that will keep the sails straight and will incorporate the original bolt locations and hardware for the mera. will keep you all posted as we go. mike in oklahoma
hey Rodney, whats up? thanks for that info. this question was 3 down on the list for all of you here. yes, i have a preconcieved list of questions for y'all. i got a hyper-mind, and hyper minds need venting. saaaaay.. i hope the previous owner or youself, Mr. Holmes, rounded off them tips, for sick of getting cut?? mine are really sharp. but look soo awesome. thats cool about the black fade. i wondered about the silver color since all Meras i have seen up to now had black. I prefer the silver because i got them fly silver rims. so i did not care if it was not stock. its nice to know that mine may be stock. just worried about the points on mine now? what do you say Mr. Dickman? Pointed or not pointed?? this will be an offical Mera trait added to the fourms archive of Mera attributes. a list question of mine, for all of the Mera owners is. Will my new Fiero GT "lace" type wheels need a spacer to match any difference in body panels? I ask this to you all because most, actually all of you seem to have the Cromodora style and i do not know if they have spacers? if a spacer is needed do any of you have maybe a part # or brand name?? them GT rims painted gold with the lower half of the car painted black is as close to a Ferrari as i'll go. love that color combo. soooo 80's. i have a Lotus on the line i want to lowball a sale. oh? here it is:
see? thats a red car with no black lower half. now i will need a red car with a lower black half. Right??? yeah....that car will be Mera X. whoops....i have strayed.... anyway...more to follow Daniel P.S. AttaBoy Mikey....keep at it. i may be able to get a set, as long as the gainfull employment is at hand

man, Tom has fans. big ups to Fiero In Paradise. this is the turning point.. Mera awereness....what to do when the Ferrari politzie come a knockin? what they gonna do to a *edit* Mera Badged Mera?? i cant wait. i am considering a drastic visual step away from the 308 look. like a big rear spolier/wing thing like this Aldino
yeah....get ye some.... i like that....kinda Lambo.. kinda like the Porsche 930. is that the right one, Mike? The 1980's ish big ass spolier/tail??? totally love the big honking.......its sculpture..yeah. ART.. Dan
[This message has been edited by batousai666 (edited 11-26-2009).]
yes its the 930 that had the big tail for the street cars. as far as the ferrari polize they cant touch a mera, its a pontiac and not advertised or spoken as a 308. my opinion is they cannot do anything to or about a mera otherwise they would have in the beginning when they had corporate concepts quit building and had the original molds destroyed. since they didnt have that kind of authority then i would think they still DO NOT have that kind of authority now. just my thought dan. anyone else wanna comment on the subject? mike

Uh-oh Dano...my deck lid vents are also rounded on the edges:
I'm wondering if the sharp-edge ninja style that you have are characteristic of 87's only? We need more folks to chime in.
Dick, I really like the look of yours with the silver edging! But I'm wondering how to achieve that look? Paint the whole grill black, then mask off and paint the edges silver? Or paint the thing silver, mask off the edges, and then paint black? Dang, whichever, we're talking about a lot of detailed work with the number of vents! And I'll probably have to let the paint dry at least a week in order to use tape over the fresh paint. And the plan is to reinstall using stainless steel fasteners. LOL...sounds like a good winter project. Ooops...forgot, that won't work here!
I was referring to the rear deck lid vents. Look at that first pic that reholmes posted above. That's the rear deck lid. I've never seen the top edges painted silver like that. Kinda cool, matches the quarter sail panels. I'm just wondering what's the best way to paint that...we're talking about a lot of vanes on that deck lid vent.
Tom

This is as close as I could focus and still hold the camera still. Looks kinda like it may be two pieces--check it out.
good news, good news! hey all, i went to look at my engine grill and the underside of my slats are BLACK! yippie! cept my slats look more like Toms. with the double lines at the top. totally one piece. also had black color under the screw/bolt heads.. this is real good. i still hope that your previous owners, rounded off the ends on your cars, guys. sorry. anyway, dont eat too much today. later Dan
[This message has been edited by batousai666 (edited 11-26-2009).]
Tom, as far as the paint you want to do. you may have to "brush" paint the tops. maybe use a thin piece of cardboard as a mask line, to keep the paint where you want it. i do not know. that is a lot of taping. you will have to take the grill off right?? to paint anyway. try hanging it side ways with the slat ends down maybe gravity will help keep the paint on the tops. and not slide down the face of the slat. eesh....that is a task. too bad you dont get snow. tis a real motivator for modifications. if i cant drive it. i will work on it. least i get to play somehow. just 2 cents off the top of the head. i will ponder this some more Later D

i believe i have dual spring arms on my Mera i only showed one in the pics. if you look closely in the pic of the passenger side that you can see the battery. it is barely in the shot. the other bracket/spring arm thingy. later D

i agree. 'cept that Ferrari has kinda gotten bigger/more powerful and more expensive in recent years. i thought that they may have gotten better lawyers. i read somewhere that the sales of their pediestrian cars are to help finance the racing side of their little group?? with that said, i see more a reason to go after the knock-offs to hedge their bets and protect the copyrights. for the racing $$$. we will see. i hope not but "money talks" time for dinner at Mommies, later Dan

My 87 MERA also has the aluminum/silver look on the rear deck lid grill work. I will check the edges when I get back home next Wednesday and see if they are sharp or rounded. I think thast they were sharp the last time I washed the car but will make certain and post the update later.
LOL...They probably rounded those vent edges after the first person who ever washed his/her Mera, shredded their chamois, and cut off the tips their fingers.
So I'm wondering are the top edges just painted silver, or is there some sort of edging that they put on top of it? Either way, it must have been pretty pricey.
Tom

HEY....Toms on to something. some kind of trim for a countertop or small dia. aluminun tube, cut in half, pressed on top of the slats. 2 piece like what seem to be on Reholmes' grill thats good lookin out Tommy. thats a ATTABOY for you. gotta think. later D
