My Mera is down temporarily. I have a cracked Y pipe. Thought it might be a manifold but pulled thy Y pipe first and found it was cracked after removing the heat shroud from around the pipe.
Anyone know if these pipes are stainess? Can they be welded by a muffler shop. I had a spare Y pipe, but found out that the 88 manual transmission pipe is different from the spare I had. Not sure what year Fiero V6 it came from, but it will not bolt up. At least it is easier changing this pipe than replacing the firewall exhaust manifold.
Anyone have a spare Y pipe for an 88 manual if this one cannot be fixed?
sorry rick, i dont have any 88 motor parts or i would just give it to you. maybe the muffler shop can build you one from scratch with your original as a template?

very strange...the FieroStore only separates the 1984-87's and the '88 by year, not by transmission. http://www.fierostore.com/P...rowse.aspx?d=218&p=1 got a picture?? i got them WCF headers and may try to but them on this Spring and i dont want surprizes, either i say its time for an upgrade. you got custom Headers on there yet? better exhaust time....free flow, baby. let that little 3.4L breath a bit better, eh?

now the tires and wheels are in the rafters, the car is on jack stands, the cradle is out of it, the front suspension is off of it, and the rough in fiberglass has been repaired. but thats a whole nother story lol

Dan, I am trying to keep my car looking basically stock even though I did the 3.4 swap. Headers will improve the performance somewhat but they also take up more space in the engine compartment. Also, I have already had my stock manifolds welded and ported. If I cannot get the crossover pipe repaired or replaced with a stocker, I will go to the Fiero store pipe. They show two different ones. One that is coated, and one that is not. The two versions appear different in the pictures. I will have to call to see if this is the case. Stock pipes are stainless, I assume the replacements are mild steel.
Leezard, Thanks for the parts offer. I hope to see you get back to your car in the future. Hate to see those nice tires and wheels collecting dust.
Thank you Leeezard, I will take you up on those covers when you get to them,
Got my crossover pipe ported and welded. The shop did a nice job, but manifold connection tubes may have shifted slightly from the heat. When I installed it I had an exhaust leak from the connection to the trunk side manifold. I loosened everything and tried again. Then I had a leak from the firewall side manifold connection. Sunday, I am going to try one more time to tighten them evenly, and hope for the best. If that does not work I need to find a stock replacement piece.
he added some pics.....that sticker is weird. but it looks closer to this than not wonder if its a nod to the evolution of the Mera ID sticker?? From Mera #7006 Indy-Resto-Guy
here we go see this thread is a reference and research tool now wish i could sit still enough to type this all up as an update to the Massive archives of Rodneys.
now with my New Fiero....i got even less time now, too

cross posting?? whatever.......... OK this new find has me all weirdin...i see a VIN code pattern in these early 87 Mera. i always thought i was weird having one of the last 87 Mera with a low VIN prod #. but them low Number Mera cars #7004-6. have mid sequence groupinf=gs thats too close to be coniencidence, no??
ok its like this....i got VIN 09384 Mera #7020 has VIN 09643 and Mera #7071 has VIN 08240
now Mera #7005 here with this funky no having 1st of the 5 full digits, which is kinda necessary, is 27242 JanR out in Sweden with Mera #7004 has 26890. Mera #7006 is in Indiana and has VIN 26352! i have to assume that this new Mera #7005 has a 2 in front of its "6" also. but then again this theory takes Mera X out of the #7002 spot by at least 18.....sooo i hope theres is no truth to sequence, here

in the vin sequence question, the real question you need to be asking yourself danno is since your car is an se, the vin sequence will be completely different, would it not? so your car still could be 7002????
i thought the VINs were chronological, tho. 7029 is an SE with a high #. 37163, so i hope there is no ryme or reason. but time is absolute, so there has to be something i am not seeing yet

Going out to try and fit my welded crossover pipe one more time. Wish me luck!
good luck.....how far you off, again??
maybe double up on gaskets?? or try to tighted them while hot. heated should sway them back...yes?? that might turn bad if they want to "go back" tho, from org. memory.

holey crap..... i think i got another quite rare Fiero, it seems. the RPO sheet is dirty, but i started thinking i had a "31 U" but there is no "31" code for Fieros as far as i can tell
giggidy.....

t'was a duke.....then it got swapped with another duke, them this final 3800 SC thanks for the link
i also do not have the SE version here. i have a Base Model (VIN code E) with GT front and back bumpers. so thems are not OEM, but the rest of the panels should be. its been cold lately up here, but today its to hit 40* again, so i will investigate a bit more. AWESOME!! *edit*
Ha! i even posted in that thread 2nd to last.......... and in hindsight after that post in the link above, i have found at least 4 more '87 SE based Mera, one of which is the 1986 Prototype....#6001

there isnt anyone in the last decade or so that has been as deep in a mera as i have... i have seen the build structure and components used. from the pics you have sent me of your car and especially compared to the proto... i have no doubt you have 7002.

the only reservation i have is that last 5 chronologic sequence pattern i see.........your #7071 was the day i felt that weight, remember?? right when you showed up here and gave me your VIN i felt that crush of dissappointment. cuz thats tooo early a VIN# for that late Mera. in my opinion......unless theres one thing i dont know. which i am sure there are many.....but only 7291 ish Fieros need to be made a Month to hit their Target total. so that absolute! and a start
its all math and i hate it, but you see how......it has a pattern to its 'Math" but i need real numbers. like for instance TOMMY!!
his Mera was shipped with Cali Meras with his going to HI as a sold car. or no?? but then that other HI Mera the rusted one is only one or 2 Mera numbers off of his...so thats part of this "Pattern." I WISH i had the rusted Mera's VIN.
i dont know they probably make 20K a week and had pools of them to choose from .wonder how they used to store them prior to shipping. In order you think?? by year and Model by the thousands?? its getting beddy bye time i am spinnin again. i must stop.

i see where your going with this. and i understand. what if... my mera 7071 sat at cc for a while before it was built and assigned a #? could explain my lower vin number but higher mera #. so many variables. even rodney himself says the vins and mera #'s are all over the place, no real sequence.

i found 2 patterns so far.....lower Mera numbers have higher VIN numbers. #7004 (26890) and #7006 (26325) seem pretty high, yes?? but then Mera # 7071 is 08240 and #7020 at 09643.
interestingly....i dont have any 1XXXX's at all....after the 0XXXX digits my list jumps straight to 2XXXX's even have a few 3XXXX's
weird. i guess i have to learn to accept that they had a huge pool to choose from
*EDIT* yulp i give up..........i see Mera #7029 has VIN 37163 #7029 is also an SE model so that kills another theory i was forming.....its interesting. i would like to know how this shakes out. too Bad CC had that fire. the sales records most likely......are ashes. Bummer

The owner wants something like $16000 for the prototype and I have not actively pursued this specific vehicle. Mike, if you want to provide the cash, I will happily store it in a garage with HVAC. If I had known of this vehicle when I started my Mera acquisition/restoration process I would have bought it first but now that I have four others to support, my interest is somewhat less.
Nelson
Hi Guys, I'm somewhat new to the forum and am a huge fan of the Mera for quite some time, love the forum and appreciation for these cars and have recently been in the market for the right one. I'm looking for a complete one, f* badged and upgraded is fine, not too picky, just want one in good shape and well cared for. I'm debating about the yellow Mera actively for sale in SD, but I've yet to go check it out. I'm presuming it can't be the greatest cuz it's been actively for sale for nearly 2 years!
After looking at the last few pages in the forum, I came across Nelson's post about the prototype, is this in fact still for sale? I may be of interest and rest assured it would go to a good home. If someone can point me to the right direction or if someone is looking to potentially sell there's, I'm interested. Thanks in advance.
Thanks leeezard, looking forward to hearing from Danno on this.
STAY AWAY FROM MY PROTOTYPE!!! kidding kidding I called Alan and left a message. i will keep all posted...*EDIT* called a second contact....Ron T. Ron has Alans home phone #. so i got 2 leads in the water but heres a nice 1988 Mera (#8042) waiting in IL for ya you want the '88 Mera anyway, its got the better suspention and all plus its soooooo shinny.
since i got the call back from Alan, we talked and hes down for another Mera get togeather.cool now, if Julian would pop back in, we could break us off something Proper well after i fix X i guess...but that would stoke the coals to do so ohh yeah!

whoops.....*EDIT* sorry. but i knew that would get you to say something wots wot, Richard?? EH?? what you been up too its been awhile.
I've been following along, but like our good friend Tom Matsumoto, I been distracted by the McBurnie acquisition--which, OBTW, like Tom's car is a C3/C4 Vette.
just got the call back....i sent you Alans Phone # in a PM good luck kinda
Thanks for digging this information up, much appreciated. I'll keep you guys posted on where this goes. Also, I wrote to Nelson earlier via email about narrowing down my search and between the 3 currently on the market, I was centering in on the yellow Mera #7029 being more of a complete car. I searched on the forum about #7029 and didn't come across anything negative, other then the question mark of it being a factory t-top car, so it may be a decent buy. After speaking to the owner of #7029 last week, it sounds like the immediate need is either a repaint or at least the hood and rear deck, but of course I'd like to see it first. For the money, I'm debating between the two is #7029 perhaps a better buy at half the price? Thanks again everyone, your a lot of help, trying to be part of the Mera family!
All t-tops were made by Cars and Concepts, when the t-top was installed prior to delivery, and with Meras maybe that means prior to delivery to Cepac, then there will be an RPO code "CBJ" on the build sticker posted on the left fender. T-top parts are rare as hens teeth, so you are taking some risk, but I will agree that a t-top Mera is one rare bird! The guy you need to talk to about this is Mainiac (check that name)--a member of this thread. Dan, any word from our North Woods friend lately?

Dick Mera #8046 1987 GT T-boned (RIP) 1988 GT T-Top (The Fiero Store Calendar: Miss February 2012) 1987 McBurnie Daytona Spyder
Thanks for the info Dick, I'll look into this more and see if it was in fact a factory option on this car. Tough scratching my head between the 2 cars, one is at the top of the food chain for a reason being the 1st one built and one is half the price in decent shape and might be good bang for the buck. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
noeld, imo, the proto is not a daily driver kinda car since its rarity. of coarse if you buy it and daily drive it that is obviously your decision. im betting in 10-15yrs, mera's will likely go up by 50% in value depending on whether or not we have an economy left. so the value of the proto will be there. if you really want one to drive or play with buy the yellow one. just my .02
post script; for what its worth, anyone who wants the info, i made a cash offer to the owner of the proto for 15grand. he turned me down. again you cant get a loan for a car like this, it will be a cash deal. so it has to be expendable cash in my opinion given the rarity of the car. in my case i would have just parked it in my shop and preserved it for shows only.
