Dan, thank you. I think Mera X is hot in that red paint, Have you been able to drop a new engine in it yet?
WELL......funny you ask!
I have the money finally but it seems I need the sun to stay out longer than it has been. I live in SW Michigan and we get tons of lake effect snow, plus we had more snow (storms) than usual and I had a plow service doing my drive for the first time in 8 years. so I have the odds against me for any fixin anytime soon but I got my Black Fiero under my car port so that is a good thing. first fix of the year and its my "Fast Fiero" so all is not lost

Dean: Yes, my Mera does have two stage paint, but the auto body shop did a good job of polishing it out, and I followed that with a LOT of waxing using a small quantity of polish mixed with a quality wax.
Dan: Wow, the Eastern US has *really* been hit hard this year, and I'm hoping all of you have an early Spring .
A favor to ask: one of my Ford back up lenses has a small piece missing on the upper corner, so if anyone happens to know of a replacement could you PM me? Thanks! While I did buy some used lenses online, they are pretty brown-ish from sun exposure.

Thank you Larry and Dan. I have an email into Green's sales (Ford Parts) using the information Larry posted a while back. Your help is very appreciated, gentlemen :-)
I would be so lost if it wasn't for all the expert advice and shared knowledge from the terrific members here.
There is at least one manufacturer (Hankook) that still produces 265 x 50 x 15 tires. I have not managed to locate any 245 x 50 x 15 tires for the front set but have managed to use the larger ones on the front with decent results on both 87 and 88 Meras. I also installed coil overs on the rear of all my Meras but successfully ran the large tries for several years prior to this upgrade.
Nelson
All good info on tire sizes, Nelson, thanks for contributing.

Early in this thread, Tom Matsumoto did a bit on refurbishing those lenses, you might try to find that entry.
Thanks Mr, Holmes, Good idea, but with these when trying to renew last month them it seemed like the brown was "bad to the bone" (all the way thru). Maybe I will try again?
yup thank you!! I have all the internet pics of your car......so its the topper even talked to the Dude....Richard, was it?? on the Phone and a few e-mails. i'd be mine if it was closer
which brings to thought.....Your Mera #7029 is an SE based Fiero, is it not?? yeah....I think you are the only other SE based Mera Besides Mera X and The Prototype #6001. well here anyway.... on the PFF
oooooooo this could get fun!! the seller I talked to was not "into" the Mera as much as Into selling it soo. interesting....I got to shovel me some papers on this one.

hi Dan, Yes, 7029 VIN's out as an SE model. Interesting that our cars may be unusual. Of course, there were less than ninety 1987 Mera's anyway.. I have much of the original paperwork. If you would like, I can post my 'translation' of 7029's RPO codes into English.

this is great!! with the ProtoType being on a SE base we get nods for being like it exactly!! early Mera Legend has it that Mera were built from GT Fieros new for awhile then they realize it was Cheaper to use the Formula Fiero In 1988 for cost reasons (less panel removal or something) well the Formula is not offered in 87, if I remember, right? so they used the GT unless it was special ordered. I get this info from this article which aint mine its a repro. from this
but yeah.....the 1987 SE Mera intact, will be low numbers for sure. I don't have a VIN list but this is cool Mera Jive Talkin again. I got Mera #7020 as an SE too. so that's 4 plus #6001. nice and cozy.
PS all the cars in them photos are 1987 Mera so I think one of your cars could be that SE in the photos. that RPO Translation would tell what base color your Orginial Fiero was before the conversion. mine was black. fun fun

You must be right on with the color Dan ! There is a bit of red metallic showing through the air grill in front of the windshield. Is there anything about Mera's you Don't know? :laughing :*)
After the “Ferris Bueller” car, the Ferrari with the most screen exposure was the red Ferrari 308 GTS that Tom Selleck drove on “Magnum P.I.” Conveniently, as the 308 reached the apex of its fame via the TV show, Pontiac came out with the mid-engine Fiero, whose space frame design combined with non-stressed removable plastic body panels made it the ideal platform for conversions designed to simulate far more expensive mid-engine exotics. The most famous (or perhaps infamous) of these was the MERA, a replica of the Ferrari 308. While the proportions were off and the interior screamed cheap, we suspect that most of the then 20-something barflies taken in by the guy with gold chains and a polyester Hawaiian shirt driving the bogus 308 never suspected a thing.
I believe Magnum PI always had a current 308. Perhaps it is the author who was wowed by the gold chains and polyester. If MPI used a Mera is was a VERY early model--the series started in 1980.

I have never seen a targa top Mera and am relatively certain that a F308 was used in this series.
I've found a few of Pininfarina's designs the most inspired on the planet, and Corporate Concepts' Mera interpretation even more to my taste, and more beautiful. Owning a Mera is a dream come true for me, and a more practical dream at that since the mechanical fixin's are domestic. Anybody here feel the same? Here's the deal: I won't tell the author of this Hagerty article what to drive, and he shows me the same respect.

I freak out like a Ferrari owner in some of the places I have been in mine. you know with $1200 near Vintage Mirrors and $300 F-Car tail lights. Them OEM "Mera 1" Taillights are gettin rare also don't get me started on OEM replacement panels. like maybe from say a Salvaged Mera. maybe one like ole Mera 7. wonder if he has that #7071 still? hum

I agree, I thought I wanted a 308 until I checked out what it would cost to maintain one. When I found out about the Mera I had to have one. It has the look and is much easier to maintain. Another thing that really appeals to me is the fact that only 247 or so were ever built. Ferrari made about 12,000 308's over the years and the rarest are the first couple of years which have fiberglass bodies like the Mera, about 700 glass 308's were made.
Mine is # 8029 and is a good solid Florida car that needs cosmetics. Should be really nice when it's complete.

Not sure if you can tell but as an experiment.... I ran a strip of black tape up and down the the inside and outside of the driver and passanger side windows to simulate the side vent window. It works pretty good because it will go up and down with the window without getting hung up in the door.
Barkaroo, I like the tape. It's the first thing a notice about a MERA vs 308. The car looks great. Wedding pics always make me smile. Make me think back to mine and brings back wonderful memories. The setting looks beautiful too!
PS-is that Rodney's bumper? I keep getting close to pulling the trigger but can't figure out what all I would have to source to complete it. Mainly I want the additional driving lights. Makes the front of the car in my opinion.

Thanks for the compliments! I did some research to see how F-cars are decorated for weddings and "dolled-up" the "Merrari" that way. ;-)
Yes that is Rodney's bumper and I agree it makes the front of the car! I've got some picks of the bumper assemby in my restore/build thread. Hard to believe I've had this car for 7 years now. Feel free to check it out.

LOVE the Euro bumper - That's a very nice looking car!
I notice the bumper is not as far inside the body as the one in the pic on Rodney's site...Is it something that someone can adjust to achieve a look similar as on your car?
Thanks
P.S. -- Lovely looking bride as well!
Cheers

Is anyone wondering how much additional weight the Mera's body panels add? I was out driving a couple of days ago (pic to follow soon..) and put Rex on our nearby truck scale. Rex, a 1987 SE, measures in at 2830 pounds (+or- 20 lbs) with 1/3 tank of fuel. See his RPO posted here earlier for option details.
BTW, does anyone remember who offered the reproduction "Mera" wheel center cap decals? Thanks in advance, J
