Him?

Carole has named our cars--I think it's a chick thing.

The T-top is "Dos" --the second red car, or the second Fiero, not sure which.
The Mera is "Faux."
The Impala SS is "Vlad" get it, Vlad the Impala.
The McBurnie is "Vinnie." The car has had four VINs.
The Jeep is "Jeep" get it, Jeep ;-)

kings are boys for the most part, yes??

I do question the 3 weeks for a water pump, wow what's that all about??

And yes, three weeks was waaay to long to put a water pump into Rex. It's very annoying but that's life when you are blond and curvy ...

It is likely a MERA based on the louvers and the joystick mirror controller. However, It has been heavily modified to imitate a F328 with a new bumper, hood, spoiler, and mirrors. I have asked the seller for the MERA build number which I will post if I get it. BTW, I doubt if the wheels are OEM Ferrari since the Fieros have a different lug pattern. I believe that they are the Chromadoras that were 1988 Mera options.

According to the seller, the MERA build number is 8070.

Dan,

I have one of Rodney's F328 bumpers on one of my Meras and it does have three slats. The rest of the heard sport stock Mera bumpers with a two slat design. BTW, I published the Mera build number 8070 earlier today so there is confirmation that the vehicle once was a Mera in spite of the modifications.

Perhaps this car was damaged and kit parts were used for the repair. The headlight louvers go much farther back on the hood, and the headlight doors are narrow and do not reach the fender line like the Mera. If the center vent in the hood is functional, this might be a nice mod for cooling, and reducing front end lift at speed on our cars. Wheels are definitely from a Mera. Odds are the original Vitalloni mirrors quit working, or rusted out, and these others were substituted.

since he don't use "Mera" as a sell item more than a tag for "Mera" people willing to give a look. I got no beef
you know not too long ago I would have bit here cuz I wanted to Keep Mera X all OEM/Stock in both Mera and Fiero under pinnings.
this of which I have failed at miserily!!
that engine looks just like the one I did however just get. so I followed to a point I guess. darn my determination

It turns out that Rex's amber and red tail lights glow when the brake pedal is depressed, and I'm wondering if CC built him that way? Can anyone here with a '87 SE car tell me if their rear lights do the same? Searching the Technical threads for repair information has been confusing because I do not know how the Fiero SE wiring harness was modified to fit the Mera tail lights (and there are no Fiero's in our two local recycle yards) The turn signals and running lights seem to function properly.
Thanks !! J

ohhhh yeah....I have the same thing. 'cept mine only only had one bulb in each so only half of the circle "glowed"
I put the bulbs in at-opposite. up on the outsides and in the lower semi-circle on the inner.

in the end for me, since I believe I never addressed this issue yet, I liked the fact they both come on.
it creates more "flash" to keep peoples attention. I want them to know I am slowing and/or stopping.

there some stuff in this thread about these pesky tail lights i'll see if I can find the info.

let the hunt begin!

*EDIT*
made it to page 26 before I found this.....

it looks like I have issues still myself

Hi Rexgirl,
Odds are your 87 Mera was assembled on a Fiero SE with all red full length turn signals, and tailights. My 88 Mera was built on a GT which came with red brake lights and amber turn signals. My Mera brake and tailights function as they should because the GT factory tailight wiring harness is different than the one for the SE/Formula taillights.

I think somone on the forum posted a "how to" in order to make the lights work properly in your Mera. Try the search feature here to see if you can pull up any info on how this mod is done. I am not an electrician so I was happy mine worked the way they were supossed to. Hope this helps.

hi Dan and Rick,

Thanks to both of you for your input :-)
After searching for clues within the other forums here over many days, and testing Rex's SE rear wiring loom, I did discover how to remove the brake pedal activation of the rear amber lamps. The solution is quick and easy, and doesn't require adding a new wire between the brake switch and rear lights.
Now, only the bottom half of both red lamps illuminate with the brake. Hint: the best clue was to treat this like converting a notchback to GT wiring, so Rick's description of his GT makes perfect sense. I will post a picture and description tomorrow, okay?

Dan made a great point about how much safer it is to have the amber lights come on with the brakes and I do agree , but here the law isn't happy with that arrangement :sigh:

Dan,

You need to clean those bulb sockets and add the missing bulbs. That way your entire lens will be illuminated. My Mera has two bulbs in each red and orange lens although they use the factory twist in bulb holders instead of the bracket you have.

I was thinking of converting them to a round LED lens that could fit inside the stock lens and housing. The ones on the back of semi trailers look to be pretty close but I need to take some measurements. Some have a pretty nice pattern of LED's in them. Along with LED side markers, this would make a nice upgrade on our cars.

To disable the brake switch from activating the rear orange (outside) turn lights on a Fiero SE based Mera, do the following: Locate the C500 wiring connector mounted on the inside of the 'frame' rail just behind the battery and just in front of the strut tower structure. It has two multi-wire plugs; a front plug for the rear lights and the other is for the engine. Look at the front plug and you should see a LOOP of white wire that sticks out about three inches. Cut that looped wire and cover the cut ends with electrical tape. If you press the brake pedal now, you should see one half of each red tail light glow and the high mounted brake light (in the rear window) illuminate, but not the orange (turn) tail lights. The Parking/headlight switch should cause the other bulb in the red tail light to glow. The rear orange turn lamps should flash both bulbs in the selected housing when you use the turn signal.

The Series 3 will be going in the car pretty soon.

Chris is doing a really nice job, it will be a very clean swap when he is done.

Lots of small details left, new alternator and belt tensioners to name a couple.

I'm anxious to hear it run, the exhaust will be a Borla single in, dual out through Rodney's Mera tail pipes.

Check out the billet aluminum low mount alternator setup he made..

Dan and Larry, Those engines look like a LOT of fun! Must be hard to not grin when you hear a supercharger behind you.

What is the silver car behind the new Corvette? It looks Japanese, maybe a Nissan? J

Really? I think they look like bricks on wheels and ugly bricks at that. Doesn't inspire passion in me despite it's performance.
