In answer to the question, I currently have a black, gunmetal gray, and two red Meras. One of the red ones will eventually be a 2005 Lotus British Racing Green if my plans come to fruition.

That may be a ways off due to some bills but I hope that it can be done in an appropriate time frame. BTW, the car will have a stock Beechwood interior.

Yes I do and it is in the process of being reconverted from a F308 vehicle back to a Mera.

Looks great. Gotta admit, the fender shield really stands out and catches your eye. If your going back to Mera markings you might consider some of the graphics Zigaroo did back on pages 4-7.

All of the Ferrari bits have been stripped off, appropriate rear backup lights added, deleted the F car backup lights, and now I need to correct the side marker issues. I have the new ones but do not want to swap them until just before paint/body work to repair all the small issues associated with emblem removal. The 88 Chromadoras have now been removed and a new 16" Koenig wheel set is now installed on the car. I plan for the car to stay black and have upgraded the power plant (3800 SC Series II with a 3.4 pulley). It runs nicely at this time and I consider it about 80% completed. I took it out to play for a few minutes this afternoon and accidentally left black marks on the driveway when I dropped the clutch at around 2000 rpm.

so Nelson?? are you sure your Mera did not come with the Ford backup delete?? that sales vid shows factory Mera loaded on that car carrier with F-Car configuration........just a friendly reminder. you may have taken a weird step into the twilight-zone with this move. turned your "stock" Mera, with the F-Car ordered option and made it into a "stock" Mera with the Fords....but not as that car was ordered.

that make sence??? wow that is weird. I believe my seller took my F-Car lights the yellows anyway and added his Fords to my car.
I got photo evidence. I need to confirm. if I can find info that Mera #8008 had the "Mera 1" light package at the time on build then its set

I think this photo looks like it was filled in at the back up light location. maybe??

Mine previously had the Ford backup lights according to the previous owner and the tail lights had been butchered to the clear center with the additional backup light installed in a modded cluster. In my mind I am returning the vehicle to its stock condition and I just happened to have a new spare set of Ford backup lights in my collection.

WRT your question on the red car backup light area, it appears to me to have been filled in a less than adequate job of reworking this area.

Rexgirl,

How did you car do at the show?

If you install a pair of 1 inch hubcentric wheel spacers on the rear wheels your tires will fill out the wheels well much better. I have them on my 88 and it looks great.

hi Rick,
Yes, I've been thinking about a spacer on the rear, but would only a single pair in back impact the handling negatively?

Dan, it has the beautiful lines of a Jaguar. Good eye ! Ta, J

Rex didn't receive any acknowledgement. I suspect that even though I placed a 1987 Mera ad in the front window, most everyone thought it was just a F*car. Next year I will place a full description of what makes a Mera something special !

It won't make a bit of difference in the handling. I guess you could run them on the front too. On my 88 the front track is already wider than the 87 so I don't need them in front. Just make sure the spacers are "hubcentric" and you will be fine. I got mine on e***y.

I feel ya here.....I told the Mera story a hundred times yesterday.
I usually start out with, "bought from the dealership to look this way"

had one dude in disgust, swiftly walk away with a "yeah right" cuz he found out (on his own) that Mera X was NOT a Ferrari.
must have been the Pontiac badge
killed his dream of seeing a 308 or something. must have been a Magnum fan

I knew it was a Jag when it pulled in....I did/do not know if its the new 2015 tho.

Both of my 87 Meras have 1.0" spacers on the front and 1.5 or 2.0" spacers on the back. Handling does not appear to be compromised and the car looks much better. Since I did not want to spring for fully customized wheels my bank account is also happier. The actual spacer size required depends on the offset of your specific wheel set.

The gold lace wheels give it a retro look. However, the color changing paint is not my favorite. Still, looks nicely done.

Hey, is anyone here running a 3.4 DOHC engine in their Mera. I rode in a Fiero that had one. Woo Hoo, 7,000 rpm is piece of cake, and the sound is pure exotic. This is a natural engine for a Mera. It's got my wheels turning............

That is exactly what I want mine to look like, I already have a line on an NOS crate engine and all the accessories. With my 5-speed this should be a great combination to drive.

Yeah, looks like you have to remove the plenum to get to the rear plugs. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Lookie what I found:

Available from: http://www.wheelbasealloys..../18-inch-wider-rear#

These are 16x9 20mm offset. I've asked here https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/133346.html

and it's unclear if they would fit in the rear without coilovers, although the 18 inch size may fit .

Just sharing ...

The wheels above are also avaialble in 8.5x18 and 9.5x18 with a 35 offset. I think they will fit on an 88 with out hitting on the inside. Not sure about the 16 in versions. On an 87 there still may be interference with the strut on the 18's. I have run 18x8's on the rear with no problem on my 88.

Darn, I wish Rexgirl had not found these.......Don't spend more money.....Don't spend more money.......

Today I removed the Ferrari nose badge and replaced it with the stock MERA nose badge. Now she just needs an arrowhead plate for the front, a Pontiac license plate frame for the rear, and to get the MERA letters painted black and put on...then she will be stock again!

thanks......now yer question is a good one, I think they are the stock '86 Fiero setup??
I got a pile of receipts that mention front shocks but nothing for the rear....so I am assuming between that and the old school wear/look that they are the original setup

The "40" offset pull the wheels in closer to the suspension and inner fenders as seen in black GT. The "20" offset of the wheels Rexgirl is looking at will push them farther out away from the supension. The additional width will still be a factor in whether they will clear the 87 struts.

In this case the problem isn't offset, it's the width and diameter. With the exra inboard width, the wheel does not have enough radius to clear the upper side of the knuckle. At least it would necessitate some double checking prior to purchasing.

Today decided that I am getting my MERA back to being a Pontiac...and proud. A few days ago I switched out the Ferrari badge for the stock MERA badge. I am sending my MERA letters off to Billet Badges to have their expert painters do the black on them. I ordered up an arrowhead license plate for the front and a Pontiac license plate frame for the rear. That should bring her right back to her heart!!!!

now this proved to be where the fun began with me and Mera X.
people ask more questions about labeled "Mera" than Ferrari labeled Kit cars. unless it was built by hand by the owner!!!
I get the same thing/feel over Mera X 3800 swap....points deducted for for being just the owner.

I have settled with an opener like....."Bought from the Dealership that way" (minus engine swap)
real car guys pick up on the dealer attachment then hit them with the "Conversion Option" "paid for at the Dealership."
option package on a new Fiero added to the "invoice" and bam.....they see the light.
that promo-video and a copy of the Sales Brouchure and we got another Mera Convert.......I got a shout out over the huge classic rock station one day cuz I told the story to a random off the road stranger that came in specifically to check it out.
I was doing laundry and walked out to this guy who was fill in for a DJ on Vacation. the next day I hear "Pontiac Mera" on the radio.
friend confirmed by FaceBook......noice
how cools that....he referenced the internet and was sold....he said he "saw a very rare Pontiac in the end" my words almost exact! WRKR is wide band promotion. the Mera Story ....is getting out!

*EDIT*.......
in hindsight having a Numbered and stickered Mera has got to be the best PERIOD!!
I don't get such confidence cuz l don't have the evidence and claim "X" as in Algebra....."the missing" ??
the seats and pointed rear engine grill allow me to use "early" version tho
