this is great!! with the ProtoType being on a SE base we get nods for being like it exactly!! early Mera Legend has it that Mera were built from GT Fieros new for awhile then they realize it was Cheaper to use the Formula Fiero In 1988 for cost reasons (less panel removal or something) well the Formula is not offered in 87, if I remember, right? so they used the GT unless it was special ordered. I get this info from this article which aint mine its a repro. from this
but yeah.....the 1987 SE Mera intact, will be low numbers for sure. I don't have a VIN list but this is cool Mera Jive Talkin again. I got Mera #7020 as an SE too. so that's 4 plus #6001. nice and cozy.
PS all the cars in them photos are 1987 Mera so I think one of your cars could be that SE in the photos. that RPO Translation would tell what base color your Orginial Fiero was before the conversion. mine was black. fun fun
yeah.........lets start with this and a mention of Mera #7004 in Sweden was owned by JanR here on the PFF. I think I saw it for sale or something, not sure if it is still as it was a year or so ago. but yeah according to this article "SE" Mera were "special order" for some reason in 1987 its cool to know. the Proto-Type #6001 is a SE base as well.
the cool thing I found unique in the SE Mera is the rounded aluminum blank off trunk panels as opposed to the GT square plastic blanks of the 1988 versions. I have photo confirmed my and #6001 to be exact matches but I only know of 5 SE Mera now with this recent addition
Rodney has a list of 50 or so 1987 Mera that if he has the full VIN we could track down some more numbers, but alas......he don't come around sooo much. still fun to speculate, eh?

Which are the aluminum panels that you mention? Have all MERA 1987 this type of panels, or just MERA SE?
My donor car was original medium red metallic. For information, If there are color photos of SE models from the production.
nope sorry I got no color prints of "In-Production" shots. I wish this was taken off Ebay from a sales ad auctioning off the actual photo or a reproduction of one.
now the alum......blankoffs are what make our trunks round instead of square like the GT version of the Fiero.
the following are pics of the 1986 Prototype #6001. under the black (mine is like snake skin kinda) is alum sheet metal pretty thick to bump out the trunk area. the GT Mera have the plastic square off that are stock to the Fiero.....I believe these rounded pieces are signature to the SE Mera and the 87 SE Mera only because the SE was not offered in 1988 for the New converts that's awesome if true to us 87 SE Mera owners.
the underside with the same pop riveted fasteners.......
heres a just taken pic of my "snake skin" cover.......
lets see some pics of #7039 theres a cool thing with the 87 seats......of which you may have, that most don't not going to tell you I want to see in your pics

and that here we have the smooth leather seat "Mera up grade" as well as optioned "tuck and roll" leather wrap around. Nice. sets a number for when these switched......theres mention of a change in the "Leather Package" offered in 1987 we just don't know when is flipped. this addition is a start
so am I wrong in that I believe this to be the updated Mera Leather interior......it transended from 87 to 88. or is the smooth leather the GT Fiero leather package??
these are Tommys seats.........#8044
and here is Jens with #7039..........

The corners of the trunk on my SE is not rounded. But the rubber looks adapted to rounded SE corner. I guess the guys in the factory have taken a short cut, and used the GT aluminum plate, probably because of my car is a late SE (the last?) (# 7039). Is there a difference in the shape of the trunk between the SE and GT? I've emailed a few close-ups of trunk to Dan, unfortunately I did not get to post pictures here on the forum.
some of ya fellas and the fair lady, Miss J, might see some awesome I would not recognize here in this vid. My First Concours' d' Elegance! best car show EVER!!!!
notice it looks like they used the round corner gasket for a square trunk design?? the only anomaly I see is it could have been a Previous Owner that wanted a more real 308 look.....and mocked the 1988 Mera
I'm pretty sure this tag is the original because it has the same issue as at least one other MERA. It appears that Corporate Concepts has been used a type of typewriter, in this case with an error by the letter H. As shown in picture Dan posted in this forum earlier, the MERA # 7064 has the exact same unfinished letter H. Just the right side of the H is visible, and it is a bit higher up the line than the other letters. To make the letter correct, it's been used a pen. (on the paper, behind the plastic tape). A half blind employee has written G instead of 6 (correct VIN is 1G2PF1196HP238300), probably by the same novice who damage the typewriter :-) It would be interesting if there were other MERA with the same strange letter H.

Same as mine on sister car #8046

Fellas, Looking for a Chromadora hub cap. Lost one on the road and couldn't find it. Does anyone have one? Nelson is taking a look in his stash but thought I woul dthrow it out there as Plan B. I am also looking for a set of four center smaller caps so I can get those correct as well. Thanks! JR

John,
Depending on what specific center caps and what colors you want I may also have a spare set of them.
The best that I can tell, the style remained the same but the colors were in at least five variations.
1. Black background, gold letters 2. Black background, silver letters 3. Silver background, black letters 4. Clear background on polished silver cap with black letters 5. Gold background and black letters

You can still get the original sources for the MERA letters if you are willing to look around for them at various GM emblem sources. I managed to locate the original letter sources (GRAND AM, SE) and have cut the appropriate letters out and made the rear deck lid letters that are identical to the original letters. I have also refurbished a couple of original MERA letter sets and they now look decent enough to use on my cars.
John supplied the billet MERA badge source he used and Rexgirl (on this forum) just sent me a picture of her reproduction nose badge. I have photos of original plus reproduction nose badges and can supply them if needed. BTW, the original 87 nose badges are different from the 88 nose badges in color and design.

The correct MERA rear deck lid letters are 0.77 inches in height. The below indicated picture is what the correct letters come from and they have to be individually cut out and refinished prior to use.
