That is a cool picture of some 87's. I guess it was at the location where they were detailed after final assembly. I wonder if there are more pictures available.
That car is a Lancia Stratos. They make a Fiero look big. Stratos were made in the 70's as I recall. The engine was a Ferrari V6 and they were great rally cars. Lot of videos of them on U Tube. I still have a model of the Alitalia rally car.
Hopefully some of you Mera folks can look at this and see if it is a true Mera. The badging is all present but his interior looks just like a stock Fiero. No leather seats or accents on the doors or center consoles. Make sure to see the larger pictures lower in the page. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot...?hash=item2eac0b46e2
Edit to add.....I've never seen a Mera plate on the intake before.
It looks to be a base 87 Mera. Wheels are nice but aftermarket, as well as all the Mera emblems including the one on the intake. The front bumper is also incorrect for a Mera. It is missing most of the Mera badging on the exterior. Also I am not aware of any Mera's made with the "Boxer" (two tone) paint from the plant. Looks to be a nice car if you are looking for an 87.
still for sale? too high $$. seems these rare cars are not as so desired, yet! i hope
them Stratos are Bad a$$. i bet they are expensive? soo cool lookin. its funny that i saw these cars while searching images of Ferrari's. to me this is queer because i guess there is an episode of "Top Gear" comming up soon, where they test with a Kit version of this car called the "Hawk" HF 3000. what a weird coiencidence. i love that show, Top Gear.."bloody brilliant..."
as far as that CC picture..I NEED MORE. i sent the guy a mail for more color pics, we will see...such a nice photo....all 1987 MERAS i see two red ones and a white....maybe #7020........PAIN. gotta go... Dan

THANK YOU, so ever much for the MERA enlightenment you have bestowed upon me.
no kidding Thanks. your Mera Brother in Arms, Daniel

Thanks, Rick. Guess my interest in Lancia goes back to the Aurelia Nardi Vignale Blue-Ray ca. '55--and probably ends there.
you earned it! you get me diggin into stuff with your links and direction pointing. not just Mera. i found these Stratos while looking for Ferrari stuff from a post here of yours. you know, your link to another, repeat.... its so fun! i love it. keep 'em comming. anybody think a little F-Car yellow would look good our cars??
i am going to see if these rims pictured will fit a Fiero? i hate yellow the color. but, in this application it works. just like the Ferrari red/yellow emblem. i like the rims them selves also. i am off to the surf. later Dan .

all my faves....Countach, Urraco, Diablo, Miura, lancia Stratos, even the Maserati Khamsin. this is my car designer and the best era...in my opinion. all the cars i have grown to like/love are in from this era 1970-the 1980's. 308 Ferrari, all the early Lambos, the Lancia Stratos, Lotus Esprit, the list will go on.... image searches are sooo fun. Lamborghini Countach LP500S Renault SupercinqMarcello Gandini, is an Italian car designer — born on August 26, 1938 in Turin, the son of an orchestra conductor — noted for designing numerous exotic as well as practical cars.
Gandini was chief designer of Stile Bertone, having succeeded Giorgetto Giugiaro. Gandini left Bertone in 1980, pursuing freelance automotive,[1] industrial and interior design. He continues to work, as of 2009, at age 71.
Together with Giorgetto Giugiaro and Leonardo Fioravanti, Gandini forms a noted triumvirate of Italian car designers, all born in 1938, within months of each other.
Gandini designed Lamborghini's Miura and Countach and many practical cars as well, including the Citroën BX, the first-generation BMW 5-series, the Innocenti Mini, and the Renault Supercinq.[1] He introduced the concept of scissor doors with the Alfa Romeo 33 Carabo prototype.
In a 2009 interview with Robert Cumberford, editor at Automobile Magazine, Gandini indicated "his design interests are focused on vehicle architecture, construction, assembly, and mechanisms - not appearance."[1]
Gandini designed many classic automobiles, including:
Alfa Romeo Montreal Alfa Romeo 33 Carabo BMW 5 Series (first gen) Bugatti EB110 Citroën BX Cizeta Moroder V16T De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si Ferrari Dino 308GT4 Fiat 132 Fiat X1/9 Iso Lele Lamborghini Countach Lamborghini Diablo Lamborghini Espada Lamborghini Jarama Lamborghini Miura Lamborghini Urraco Lancia Stratos Maserati Khamsin Maserati Ghibli Maserati Quattroporte IV (1994–2001) Maserati Shamal Renault 5 Phase 2

I spoke with the guy once after many phone calls and also got some sort of Mera sticker photo via e-mail. Since then he has not answered his phone or responded to any e-mails even though I have offered him cash (his requested price) to buy the car. He is either a real flake, does not want to sell the car, or this is some sort of scam. I will update anyone if something else happens.

you know for that kind of money i would go for the Ebay one or that Auto trader one. unless you want the 88's or something. .....to each his own...Bragh!
look closely at the pics of the E bay one. the sail louver is comming off. in the rear view. and i am sure there are other things. note the lack of pictures. heck some of the pics he sent me were all out of order. Daffy..intentional???
as of late the resale on these cars it is not as impressive as i may have hoped. i know it is still the economy...maybe. right? not like it matters cuz me notasellin' anyway. i seem to be the other side of this problem for the current sellers. me not being able to jack the price up due to the fact we have 2 documented 1987 Meras available and i cannot do a thing. having no job. CRAP! why now. 2 years ago i did not even know the Mera existed, now we have had three or more for sale in 4 months. Give or take...insane. ok. done crying...thank you. i need a tissue.
anyway, with the fact that if i would have been employed all this time since last year, i would own at least 2 more '87 Meras, with that said, I feel better. wait, i just said that. holy run on sentence. again. i am gettin silly i need to eat. Night, Dan

The Stratos rims are a different bolt pattern so you will need adapters. Reproductions are available online in the rally versions. The rears are much wider than the fronts. You could just run four front wheels so they would not stick out too much.
but if my wife logs onto here... tell her i have adamantely trying to sell it ok....lol she thinks due to my health issues of late i dont need any more cars or trucks other than my pro monster truck fetish lol
gotcha' well in that case.. Mike, did you notice if the old panels that you are replacing, did they have any kind of production number or model number? stamped or molded into the panel? and weather they do or do not, are you going to do something similar with your new panels? for reference and/or identification. inventory...i dont know. your name, company name, anything... i ask this because as you know i am looking for a way to identify OEM Mera panels. anything to help qualify the real deal.
you see you are the only person i have talked to that has had panels off. with pics, hopefully
good luck and as always if/when my job scene changes (all it takes is a phone call from my boss) i will be interested in 7071 after the LS is in. still doing that? 7071 is perfect for this conversion.... i will let you know Dan

true that! after some research i think the same thing. so i came up with this little idea.
you guys have to help me tho. stupid question.
For the OEM Fiero wheels, the lace style. do they need any adapters or spacers to fill any gap for our Mera panels?
hopefully not, because i think a set of yellow OEM lace style rims would work. plus i want to get rid of my spacer/lug adapters on Mera X's current CenterLine rim set. for a more stable run. the small HP increases i have planned will only exaggerate my already bothersome shimmy in the front end.
dang i just noticed its 60 degs here and only 9 am. i gotta go later Dan

you make a very good point dan. i think i will put some sort of identification on my panels. i agree with you. as far as 7071 its not really for sale in my book. if you ask my wife it is lol. but im not selling. as far as conversion parts on 7071 im torn. i had to rebuild the front suspension due the the wreck so i used my tubular a arms, my ferrari f430 brembo conversion, and my f430 19" wheels and tires. with those upgrades the car is no longer original or similar to original. i wanted to keep the numbers matching 2.8 and getrag in the car but have also thought about taking the original motor and trans and wrapping them and putting them on the shelf for safe keeping and dropping in one of my modified getrags with a ls2 like my little 88 coupe. 88 coupe is getting a ls2 as we speak. but i dont know that i want 2 cars with ls motors. so if i do anything i might stick a zz4 383 425hp aluminum headed sbc with a modified getrag in 7071. i have the zz4 setting on the shelf and nothing to put it in. but honestly im not sure yet.
dan from what i am told the lace wheels just bolt on, no spacers needed. just that you use a larger tire to fill the gap. ask nelson or rodney. later, mike

ohhh...such the problems.... your situation is tough.....not. i feel that 7071 deservers the best you can do for it. like you say it IS Mera #7071. A Legacy to uphold. its a 1987 Mera restoration...that works. with all the extra beef it should be able to handle the 425hp so you got my vote. GO LARGE. use it as a model for your panels to show to the public. and start a resurgence in the "Classics" you know the time is ripe....retro-baby....if you need a salesman we can talk. i need a job. anyway its so early and so nice, i have to duck out. later D

If you install a 265/50/15 rear tire, and 245/50/15 front tire on the lace wheels you will have the exact size Mera's were equipped with from the factory. On my 88 I have a 1in "hubcentric" spacer on the rear wheels to match how the front wheels appear in the wheel opening. The rear wheels really look great this way viewed from the side. Otherwise, the rear wheels sit in too far in the wheel opening. If your spacers are not "hubcentric" that may explain you shimmy. The yellow lace wheels will look good but you will have to clean them quite alot.

thanks friend. Good call. as far as cleaning/washing, i usually give Mera X a good work out, so we are pretty dirty, at the end of the day. I love dirt roads, guess i want to Rally Race . looks fun! so i find myself giving X the hose 2-3 times a week. nice and shinney....
The Rims- see, i have these CenterLines on the car. i think they are called "Star Series",car came with them. well, there is a massive hunk of aluminum in there. like 2-3" over all. i want to get rid of them. i have yet to take off the wheels. I need some jack stands. so i will post pics when that happens.
now with spring commin i get to comb garage sales for garage stuff...drop lights, jack stands, tools.... happy times...driving around in the Mera, till something big comes along...then i need my Jeep.
Rick? you say you have a 1 in. spacer on your car? does it line up to the outside fender? in the rear.
the thing is, on X as of now, the rear tires look wider than the front. thats the thing i like about these CenterLines. the Fatties in the back. thats what drew me to the Stratos Rims:- 2,200 Pounds (Eng.) what ever that is in $$?? so the Fiero wheels are the Cheap fix.
thats all for now. going to stare at Ricks wheels for awhile. thanks again, Rick. Later Dan

i post (steal) this quote, because seems the Imprezza WRX shares the same bolt pattern, huh? these WRX are pretty fast....so these wheels should be able to take a pounding, NO?
my wheels now are weak. need more sticky, boss! i have serched images of these WRX's they have some rim designs....I here the junkyards calling. this list is helpful.... D

Dan the pictres of my car back on page 13 do not show the spacers. That is the way it came off the transporter. The rear wheels are now 1 inch farther out on each side. So you will have to "stare" them an inch farther out than they appear. They really do look much better now when all the wheels are straight and viewed down the side.

Update on the West Coast 88 Mera Supposedly for Sale
The person supposedly selling this vehicle now has a "Not Accepting Calls At This Time" message on his phone and has not replied to any e-mails sent during the last five days. I would count him out of the picture as either a flake or a scammer.
DAN i run spacer/adapters on 7071 but thats mostly so i can use the actual ferrari rims 5x108. and they fill the wheel wells nicely at 19" and michelin pilot rubbers. my spacers are only 1" wide. 5x100 to car hub and 5x108 for wheel. mike
also, dan, nelson, and guys... i am buying a archie sbc v8 kit from another member here. going to put a zz4 383 425hp crate motor with fuel injection into 7071.... shhhhhh dont tell my wife lol

thats good. i was thinking more rim to balance out the "tall" tire thing also. Naw!...i still like the OEM Fiero painted yellow or Gold. and having it lowered maybe. this is the first thing, aside from any engine issues i may find.
ohhh..yeah, i need to research more on swappin out the existing front suspention also...playing around in the driveway made me notice a sloppyness i remember from last year, late. and the brakes...seem hookey. i know this is a 1987 thing. but i am very hard on my cars. and sooo used to that TransAm of mine. This little Fiero will not make it this Summer. i was gentle last year. did not want to break it off the bat. The T.A. is busted now, so the Mera is gonna ...."Get It". this year!
Mike you're going to have to passcode lock this Fourm....."For Your (and us) Eyes Only"...
soo totally in the middle of a Bond-a-thon.... ..James Bond! Yesterday (rained), was that movie. with the cool Lotus Esprit's so for kicks I searched Lotus...i was looking at Esprits when i picked up Mera X mind you, and remembering my love of them... found this...what do you say Mike, huh??? "come on over to my crib"... i say.
I get the 1st truck.
i love image searches. you never know whats out there. till one hits enter. even misspell a word or two. some weird stuff pops up. see photos of that black 308 a page or 2 back. i am tellin you??
the European scene is unhinged...they love their cars. treat them like family. thats how i feel. now that i am gettin more into the mechanicals of my vehicels it is becomming more personal... and keeps me home more and out of trouble. these long winters.
you know ? reminds me. I need some cheap jack stands and paint. i am going for the Sunday Paper. later ya'll.. Daniel

YEAH!!!! that will do!! front row seat.
i want to donate Mera X for a freshen up of the org. engine. A Pro installed, paid for, solid warrantee type confidence, engine mod. not a swap per sae, but a good tune. maybe even a Turbo. something a local shop may want me to brag about. at shows i am gonna try some local MI Fiero shops and see if they want to try an advertising thing.. i dont want anything for free. if they want to do the engine swap at a good discount. for some word of mouth (big mouth) type advertising. i have them covered. and then some. i will see. this week sometime. Mike. just free thinkin aloud here.. Later, you can jump in with me and your panels on 7071. It will be a Fiero thing.(engine) and a Mera thing (panels). between us. you get both. with your shop. i just get the Mera part. "they" whom ever "they" are, here in MI, will get my engine swap coverage.
if 7071 makes money. your wife may see differently then. money works wonders. if i remember correctly. its been i few years now. it got real tight last year.
also this union would strech out the "Car Show Zone" for me West. are there a lot of "Kit-Car" specific shows around? i don't know. its "Stir Crazy" talk most likely....."uh huh, thats right we bad, uh huh..." Just watched that movie too. and too many old Traveling Salesman shows.... i reckon. thats the life for me, seeing i need a job. may panout to something. wont know till i ask, right?
You see i also need more Mech. knowledge so the offer is that i will help physcally. even sweep the shop, pick up boy. whatever, i do not care. as long as i can watch and turn a wrench or two.
but, as you may know, i also like to talk about my stuff. no problem there. (ya think!?). the Mera story is soo fun to tell.
plus I plan to go to auto shows/dragways/racetracks in MI anyway. so if we do a engine swap i will travel accordingly. the better the engine (lower miles) the further i have to go. that would be fun. every Fiero car show coast to coast for all i care. i love worry free driving. thats why i rent a lot of cars. 100's of them. its their car not mine. my location is good with the MotorCity, IL, IN, WI, OH..soo close the hard part is the driving. in a 3800 SC Mera! ..get out of here. ha.
i love advertising because all you really need to do is, show up and say hello. real loud! with todays exhaust alone that is easy
this is where the "Deal" kicks in. not a money thing. but for me, a confidence for the long haul. to get to the people to promote the engine to future customers. at these shows for them. hopefully. just a sticker alone will speak volumes. with the right set-up. i can see it now... "3800 SC anyone??ME-ME-ME!!"... you betcha'. step right up.
for me today, i just have little money. so its a tune for me, to start. And should this fall on dead ears, up here. i will challenge myself to DIY- and take all the glory for myself !
whoops... this took forever to compose.. later, Dan
