here we go 1986 Mera Proto-type....

too start- these suckers were big i reduced them 80% for the post size here.

not much different, eh??

for me tho....the standouts are these- rather obscure elements/observations.

here is the '86 ^^^^

and mine>AWESOME<#1

AWESOME #2 the bloody mirror switch that i thought was missing the LH/RH switch...but this states o de con'trare-
and leads me to believe the '86 has a manual LH mirror...JUST LIKE MINE!!!! hot dam!!!

mine looks excatly like this one. even the "Plus" cut out around the stick. see

of course we share the spectaular fact that both of us have Sharp angle engine slats...

1986^^^^^^

mine

ohhh....and speaking of slats, lest not forget the 2 up front.
and last but also as important.....the Flat Back Black Sails...

Mera #6001 ^^^^
mine

RULES!!!!

i see these all as very tell-tale,solid pieces of evidence in this Mera Verification Quest of mine..these would be hard to fake with out some sort of comparison to each other. heck #7005 is in Sweden.and has been for awhile... good luck with that one mate.....it's lookin real good. one problem..hopefully not but, Mera #7006, i believe Rodney varified, has no back up lights....but #7005 does. maybe #7006 "glassed them in....this is the hopefully part

Anyway, after resizing more pics i may post them. there is not anything standout that i see, yet...
gonna go stare and compare #'s 7005 and 7006.
later

Dan,
I see you finally got the CD.

Next time I go see Allen I will take some more photos. I did not get a photo of a mirror adjustment. Any thing else you want to see?

thats why they call it...."Snail Mail".
And yes i did. thank you. i was pullin for yesterday but to my dismay, all there was was a FAT STATE TAX REFUND CHECK!!! Completely Brilliant!!! i got me a Mother's Power Cone on sale to see bout the buffin out of the mess i made with the paint.

the cd works fine i just have to resize them so they will post here. they will progressively appear.....

as far as more photos...i was wondering if maybe we could hook up a "Meet and Greet" type thing.
You, the owner of the 86 and Me.i do not want to seem forward...ok maybe a little..... But i was going to ask if you and the owner of ole #6001 would not mind Me and Mera X, tagging along for the next photo session. i would be very interested in seeing the '86 in person and if the meeting spot is not too far away you both can check out Mera X. we can on the spot compare...its totally up to that distance factor and you guys....what do you say??

Mike as far as the OEM Mera1 lenses go. my renewed interest in them, stems from the 76 molded into my Carello reds. And if memory serves, that number is supposed to be a YEAR indication of production??....its cool mine say 76. your Mera1 reds and yellows should have an 87 on them. Right?? my yellow turns do. molded Mera1. molded 87.
its soo cool.....OHHHHHHH SNAP!!!!!!!!...i wonder what the '86 has on its Carello's????wait the yellows are Carellos,NO?.....Hmmmmmm

Ron. theres two new pics for ya. #1 some close ups of the Driver side sideview Mirror and both sets of taillights. the yellows and the reds. i am looking for an 76 molded into the yellows. i have too assume the reds are Mera1 lenses because the yellows should be Carellos, as per the white back up in them. does that make sence??? ohhh....thats a good one. are the reds on the 86 Mera1 or Carello???
jolly good.
if the 1986 Mera has both Carellos i am going to cry. cuz that will be it. the final obscure detail in my 'chipher. I have Mera #7001. the first Mera from the Production Run. i have the 1986 bugs that get worked out for the rest of you. Man thats reachin' good thing i have long arms.....eh??

here we go!
check this out.

deese are my Red Carellos. notice that they look like they have been there awhile, the rust and OEM mount points.
My yellows are Mera 1 but they are held in with newer lookin zips.....

now we have the 1986 here

i think that the reds in this picture are in fact Carellos. i have them on Mera X to compare to and it seems to be alot of writing in the round....i think this is important. with an archive search i believe my P.O. added the yellows and the Back-ups to be more like his other Meras!!!! True, he has 2 more. sooo, to my best deduction..i have to say again i believe Mera X to be in the Top 4 Meras produced in 1987....i say this because i have too much in common with these two (#6001/#7005) they are really small details that would be over looked. and seeing as the PO has 2 '88's. this is key. he has only the 88's for reference. so if i had say, Cromodora's, i would be skeptical...even knowing the '86 has them crapps.
well i feel better about Mera X way more than i did this time last year....
back to the hunt,
D

Rick, the two-prong turn-signal flasher is a direct replacement. The turn-signal flasher is pressed on to a bracket that hooks to the steering column. If you remove the panel under the steering wheel, you'll have easy access to it. The OEM is usually a small, round silver looking thingy...easier to find if you hit your turn signal while you're underneath looking for it. The E-flasher is completely on the other (passenger) side, underneath the dash. If I recall, you don't have to remove anything to get to it. It's right near that "Blue Thingy" that makes noise when your e-brake is up.

Your bulb scenario is perplexing, but I'd check the bulb nonetheless. On the Mera (at least on mine), there are two (2) bulb sockets stuck into each lens housing, so what you may be seeing is the one for the signal flasher is burned out, but the other one is okay.

Dan, Thanks for the flasher tips. This will be my Sunday project. Since my Mera was built on a GT chassis, I have not had any problems with the orange lights coming on with the brake pedal. I will check the bulb also. Could both filaments flash on these bulbs? I only thought one flashed and the other was for tailights and brakes?

errr, i no help....that was Tom. i do not do electronics.... when i think i am done they never work....therefore i cannot "DO" electronics. i try. but never achieve. ask my temp gauge...sad panda time for me....

i did notice however that my HazFlashers are wired to the blinkers. both ambers and reds come on.....also noticed that its not just the screws that are rusty. My whole (lookin in, right side) brake light assembly is toast...the top socket is fuse rusted half way up. this concerns me for the fact that.....no wait, this a good thing. should mean that its been there awhile, NO?????

Rick, i do know "....Your Sunday project" is My new Saturday project....the wire splices look OEM so that i guess is a good thing. for now! we'll see.
later and good Marnin', Wood!

Hey Dan...almost right! There were two small deer in the back of that truck. They apparently have a number of "deer parks" in Korea.

All of my rear light sockets are standard Fiero, the type that takes a quarter turn to lock in. But then, I have the standard lenses stamped with "MERA 1" on them.

Interesting...from 86 Prototype to 88, I guess they never quite "fixed" that rubbing that occurs on that black triagular piece on the front door window area.

I have not had time to check my taillight yet. Do I need to remove the black cover behind the trunk to access them? On that rubbing between the door and triangular piece. Do all Mera's do that. How can it be adjusted?

(in my best whine)...."But what about the light sockets." they are all one. if they sell loose sockets, i guess....but that is messin with electronics. i sence a short or worse a fire. kidding...the socket itself is all rusted will not make connection. thats why the light bulbs are out. no metal, no short. the brackets are save-able. i will look for replacement sockets in the morning.

i am wishing that the Carellos on my car are a very early sign of Mera. like #7001 early. a carry over -first production "bug".
so exciting.

Rick, yes i have removed my black alum. cover in back. its the first thing i did. have yet to put it back in.

you call them Deer. i still see a Moose in the closer to us, half...huh odd? we have so called deer parks here in MI! why i do not know. i had 11 big suckers in my yard at one time eariler this spring. ohh and in 3 years the police have shot 3 from accidents also in my yard. I still like mooses better.

on to the scuff.
my drivers side has it, but the pass. side does not. odd. to fix i feel a shave is in order.

anyway, too the morning.

really??? that simple??
i do not trust electricity. the stuff is way more radical/unpredictable l than i am. no control. soo i am very apprehencious....some may say "scared" and too a point, yes.

stupid invisible killer. i got between 2 of the big black fuses (480) in a freeze drier at Pfizer, it took ahold....almost. all i could hear was a loud HUM. no voices. just a hum, in my head. the last thing i remember saying to myself was...."what is my boss going to do with that 2x4"??? thats when i pulled my finger out. big lesson that day.
if i had touched the fuse, BLAMMO, i would not be here now. that shook me to the core. a feat not so easy. i must say.

anyway i trust you and will DO this. thanks Mike!

errrrr........that is all. for now

anybody got this??

this is shot straight on between the front alum. grill. left side to right side.
i noticed this while putting the grill back on.

see the gap between the black bolt and the new one's i added for a fastening point?
center to center its like a 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch off.

this maybe the cause for "My" black door triangle rub.
drivers side, no gap, full on rub!

passenger side same gap as below! a whole half an inch+!!

its so bad that SOMEONE had to notch the support for the bolt head.

see this side is naught

can some of you kind gentlemen post some multi-angle pictures of your whole front end with close-ups?

(Danke) thank you in advance
Dan

thanks Richard. that's perfect.
everything looks the same. that is a relief. your car is way more symmetrical that mine.
wonder why mines shifted so much??

as far as the rubbing i am not sure of that yet. i am looking into this now. i was busy today finishing my air dam install.
had to make a bracket too...

found a really bad rusted spot up front. bummer.

more in the morning...

bracket installed

used the grill boltundnut. its offset from center a little. no big whoop. thru-bolted to frame....was really flimsy up there.
may add more. need a bug screen/stick catcher for the radiator inlet, its kind of wide open.

heres a funny thing...

cleaned the window above the battery. not so funny. first time ever. funny!

you guys have the black sticker on the back window below decklid?? i do but its cut where the GT louver see thru should be.

my wood putty section, remember? was looking into drilling out the putty part for see thru.
i still do not know whats up with these louvers of mine??

the back is all consistant. no difference. the front however, all wavey and thin at the bottom. passenger side only. strange.
i have also been entertaining the idea of really tinted "glass look"plexy panels instead of the louvered style.
mock windows soo dark it blends the car parts, but functional for side view. both sides.

you got anything like that there, Mikey?? maybe a camera??hahahaha. ohhh, that another thread.

also anybody???

see the plug sticking out the back. its in both seats. wonder if all Fiero seats were wired for the options weather bought or not??hope so!

later
Dan

I also have the same rubbing problem on all of my Meras. Also, none of my Mera seats have the plug that you have in the picture.

Interesting...from 86 Prototype to 88, I guess they never quite "fixed" that rubbing that occurs on that black triagular piece on the front door window area.

Your question may have been intended for Dan--no I have no rubbing. Here's a pic of the underside edge of the triangle piece. It appears to held in place by just one screw.

As you can see in the first pic, the black mask has been cut away on the right inside of the back window so one can peek through the grille.

From the outside you can seen that the grille is not solid.

The mask remains on the left inside of the back window.

and, the left side grille is almost solid.

more pictures i love them. right on Richard!!!! you all need more PICTURES of your cars here. 'SUP??
waohhh....Mike! even i have 2 slats in my Drivers side...dun..dun....daaaa. sorry.

also, seems Holmes has a more modifiyed version....notice the wave in his slats...looks to me, to be P.O. home-done. no offense Rich, but i am thinking about drilling out the passenger side where my "Wood" is and i feel this is what they will look like. all wavey. and the round at top
i want more of the angle of the slats, not so straight in.. i do however still like the silver on the edges. goes with my rims.

ohhhh....yeah, that seat plug is for the headrest speakers. they are in there just no hook up. huh.....wonder if i could rig them up for some more BASS! ....."how low can you go!" cept i cannot find this reflected on the RPO sheet. i need to look into this more.

That's because they are 84 85 seats. Someone has replaced them/recovered them at sometime.
If you don't have speaker holes in your seatbacks, I would leave them disconnected, those small speakers can build up heat. I have seen many seatbacks that had burned with them. Not saying it's a problem, I'm just saying. . . . . .
