I used the Rodney Dickman method--I believe the instructions are on his site. He also offers a tool for the one or two REALLY tight screws that you have to address. I made my own tool from a little ratchet kit I got from Harbor Freight--see pic. I ground down a bit to make it shorter--probably should have ground even more. OBTW, the ratchet action came in handy. I also used a wooden wedge to hold the outer sill away from the window glass--carefully!

Additionally, I couldn't get a right side wipe, and had to construct one using the correct molding from JC Whitney, and the fixtures from the old dew wipe. Much cheaper, but wouldn't do it if I could have gotten the part--which is available now. Fixtures are from the left side--sorry no pic of the molding. If you are in a bind, I can see if I can find the molding number.

When you get them apart you will see how it works--it's not a Swiss watch!

sure seems like alot of trees for AZ.....looks more like MI.
theres a 'Stang like your yellow one for sale down the road from me...been there for awhile...
ain't no-thang wrong with a Mustang....i hear they are bringing back the 5.0 engine. guess i did not know they got rid of it.
the stuff one learns on PBS....AutoWeek.

went to a Pontiac Dealer for a set of spare keys.....he had one "B" blank in his "throwaway" bag. sure glad i went for them.
its nice to have a spare set...you know for a 22 year old car...

Hey Mike?? what did you DO!?

seems someone is throwing the Severe Weather your way. you like the mean weather?? i do.
i bought my house for the fact that it is in MI's, bad weather zone....a bunch of lake effect snow in winter (FUN) and our own version of "Tornado Alley". its more severe thunderstorms, not as many Tornado threats as you, but for my area its up there.

what else?? .......Later

Good eye, Dan. Actually it's Northern Virginia, and that was only 40% of the total fleet. The yellow one was a Q-code--HOT! They were fun to own and easy to work on, but that was a passing phase of my life--on to Meras

The point was, it's not really difficult to do your own key work--that is if you can get the lock out of the car :-) Yeah, yeah, I didn't need pictures of Mustangs to make that point--a guy's got to fluff his feathers a little.

Well, you really don't know for sure. He might have submitted a bid of $1,000--yours was just the highest bid that lost. You could still be chasing the damm thing--$.50 at a time.

true but in all actuality the fiero was an economy car in the begining trying to sell to the masses. i have always liked pontiacs in general but if you want better quality then you have to whip out your wallet and pay more money for say a german car or something of that caliber. so for what the 84 coupe cost back in its day and what you got for your money wasnt a bad deal. anyhow my .02

good point. thanks Richard!
the emblem dont fit in the frame anyways.
hey? is the word "Mera", purple or faded black??
i like the "Royal Purple" look in the gold "frame" so regal.....maybe a P.I.M.P. @ss necklace...hahahahaaa
it does get me thinking tho....

i always looked at Pontiac as the Cool car maker. old GTO's..new GTO's...Lemans, f-birds and the TRANS AM, Fieros.... you know
muscle cars ....i thought as a kid (70's-80's) that Pontiac was GM's sports car division....all my friends had Pontiacs...Chevy had the Corvette...awesome, but just that. in my opinion....i know this manufacuer debate is a touchy spot for some people so i leave it at that....
but i still do see a lot of Pontiacs on the road, sure maybe the side of the road (Grand Ams) but the road none the less....
Chryslers on the other hand their still around!!?? and losing money still, WHY!! Whoops. sorry.....done

Well, the parts shown didn't fail, the rubber seal did. After 20 years in the sun, even German, and Australian if you will, exterior seal tend to deteriorate. Having said that, I don't think the 80s was a great decade for quality--anywhere. But, was it a pretty darn good car for the money?--you bet, and it still is. OBTW, my quarter panels are sound unlike this 7 year-old MB.

Now, Chris, having jumped in your "soup," thanks for the link to a super site.

That's a beautiful car, thanks.

328 Mera, are you looked on with disdain in Ferrariland? The Italophiles in the US--of which I must admit I am one--often refer to our cars as "nasty little Fieros"--that is until they run up against a 3800 SC swap.

As the fiero quarter panels are made out of fiberglass the real feat would be if your panels looked like the Mercedes. Probably a W210, shame MB cheaped on rustprevention.

Hey, Mike and Mr P,

Guess I was being a bit facetious with my 1/4 panel crack ;-) The 80's weren't known for quality cars from any source, and I certainly didn't buy the Fiero for its precision, but Holy Moly Batman, I've had more fun with this car (my 87 GT), and fewer problems for twenty years than any car I've ever owned (whew, was that a run-on sentence?)

I've had a bunch of alien cars, and probably wouldn't buy any of them again--although I really like the 2001ish BMW 3 Series Shooting Break coupe. Sure is a good thing we don't all like the same thing.

Mike! Really!? Kick a$$.
then its forshore...OEM Mera. Maybe just 1987 Mera only, even!!
i have done alot of seat specific searches... ie..old 1970-80's corvette seats, Trans Am, mostly Pontiac.....and yes, even 80's Ferrari's which= not these results/pictures....(another reason i hate these dam machines) but too not see it off the bat, i give myself another BIG DUH-HOY!
i have disclaimed before that i have never seen a real 308 in person.
well i also need to include that i do not or have not looked and cared what the interior of the 308 is cuz i love the outside too much for any consideration + or - my definition of MOOT....

the backwards angles are weird. like a haha or something- poke in the nutz...CC did say that "no Lines match the real 308".....its funny.

i am in hope that this pans out....learning every day.
later
Daniel

whos to say they didnt make "another" pre production test mule or "prototype" i think your car has too many traits that deem it as a mera of some sort. either a pre production car, or early production car or whatever... point is yours has many mera only items several meras dont have. ie people changed parts on their mera or wrecked and put back together with fiero parts instead of mera or whatever. ill say it again lol.... dan you have a mera. my .02 mike

after a year of looking at the hard to reach spots on my car...i totally agree. i have a Mera. a early version even.
this has finally been established to me recently....the seat covers finalized this conclusion. Happy Days.
still wish i had that stupid number, tho. people at car shows feel it a kit car without that #. its frustrating....

see all this crying is finally paying off....i feel that we (all of us) collectively have opened the door as to what a Mera really is.
you know beyond the car, panels and said number.... the Seats, 2 slat grille, pointed alum engine grille, no sticker on the earliest Meras, no Cromodoras on early examples, manual mirror on Drivers side...ect...
the list grows for me everyday...i feel we have expanded the list of "what to look for when buying a Mera" 3 fold. i dug all through the archives and none of the fore mentioned OEM Mera qualities were previously mentioned. but now if one were to look here, the mighty PFF, for some "fact finding" before a purchase, they will be well prepared for a salvo for tough questions for the unsuspecting seller....

i thank you all who have posted here- putting up with my hyper active, no sence making, crybaby a$$....you have all helped me sleep at night with this OEM Mera knowledge we have acculmalated over this past year. i feel honored to be part of this very limited group of people and their Meras!

later
Daniel

hot dog!!!!
while staring out my front window, composing the above post....i saw a very nice looking white Fiero go by with a very attractive blonde girl driving.....that makes the 7th Fiero i have seen in my area since i got me X....bloody small world, it 'tis.

also i wonder if we, mostly Richard, have found any Meras that Rodney does not have on the list?? that would be cool too...finding more comrades in the fight to preserve an American icon, PONTIAC....Vive' le Pontiac!!!
*EDIT*
ohhh....yeah, this reminds me, do not kill me or anything.....but do we have Fiero Meras or PONTIAC Meras?....when i went to the Pontiac dealer for a set of spare keys....the "Parts guy" seemed to want too stress that the Mera is NOT a GM thing. duh.....i feel that we have Pontiac Mera's for the fact that they were a option offered by the Pontiac dealer exclusively. so its a Pontiac Mera. right? think i asked this before. well, duh for me if i did. maybe i should try an endorsement deal with them for a sales promotion to get people in the lot??

in my humble opinion we have pontiac mera's. i like my little car. the guy i bought it from did NOT know anything about it. to him it was a wrecked ferrari kit car on a fiero frame. i failed to mention to him that it was indeed a mera until i got back home with it lol. first thing i did when i got to north carolina which were it was at was open the deck lid and see if it had the sticker. sure enough it did... that was probably the biggest smile i ever had on my face lol. in the pics from ebay it had the vitaloni mirrors and the correct mirror toggle switch and the right looking body panels and so on and so on..... of coarse it was severly wrecked but i did not care. i purchased the car for 1000.00 with 400.00 of my money and my dad who is wealthy paid the other 600.00 long story short he buys all my brothers yukons and tahoes and suburbans and i have always been self sufficient so he has never bought me a car or truck. he offered to pay 60% of whatever i wanted to buy. looking back now i should have picked a porsche 911 or something lol. but anyhow i only had to pay 400.00 for my mera 7071. way fin cool.... anyhow i only share this story because it is just that... my story of my mera 7071.... now it has a history with me.... way cool. thanks for listening all.

ask him if he wants to adopt a 40 year old, ME.....i act like a child sometimes or how bout you...."can i call you daddy?"
i just want you, "daddie" to put that Ls2 in my car for me pweeze??????80/20%???..... i am a brat.

But all kidding aside i went to www.pontiactributeday.com
they are orginizing a Pontiac Tribute day on June 1 and you can register your car....well i thought about throwing a wrench in the works and signed up as Mera X (Daniel) went to model up as a Fiero and using my name as the Mera nod, but lo and behold they have a MERA selection in the choices to pick from....HOT DAMN....we are reconized as PONTIAC MERAS....case closed...THAT IS WAY COOL...
i also registered my 95 TransAm.....soo love the Pontiacs that i do.

made me feel all warm and fuzzy.....

i guess that there is NOT anything going on in Pontiac MI to commerate the end of Pontiac...that is sad.
especally with that city being the "hometown" of the Fiero. i would think that the town would be a week long party.
with the Memorial holiday and all.
ohh well, looks like Lake Mi for me this weekend....

their engine bay also makes mine look able to eat off of, comparitively. that sucker is trashed. at least blast it off with a hose. eshhh...
and the price as of now makes me feel better about how much i got ole X for

look what i did! today....no more worries

gauge mounted in trunk just under the latch in the carpet pop-in holder thingie.

i cut a little notch for the wire and framed it with some two sided tape for no metal on metal contact....
now!! i know that the running temp is 210 degs. with a fan (which i know works now too) kick on temp at 225.
does this sound right guys??

Nope, that is just about right!!
The fan should kick on at 230*+-5* and run for a decrease of 10*.
Open road your temp should be low and in stop and go traffic is when the radiator fan is working OT.
