thats one of the early fiberglass 308's huh? thus the high price. thats whats cool about the Mera, all glass. sometimes tho it would be cool to knock on metal, sometimes. feeling of solidity. does any body know the difference, in weight, between the OG Fiero SE (in my case) vs. the Mera package.how many pounds? + or -. just curious. thanks. Later-

Dan

Really hard to pin down the stats on the F-car, but I understand the fiberglass model weighed in at about 2300#. The 3 L dry sump V-8 may have been lighter than the 2.8 V-6. I have heard that the GT weighs about 2800#. Using these figures the Mera may be lighter than the GT, but after lifting the hood and boot of the Mera, I doubt it.

Check out this link, and hit on the download for Fiero Spec Sheets. Provides all the specs for various years, including weight. You may want to save a copy after you download it.

http://www.fieronews.net/fu...wnloads.php?cat_id=1

There is only one reference that I've ever seen on the weight of the Mera, and it's in the Car and Driver article here. Even in the Mera sales brochures, I've never seen any advertised weight.

http://www.fiero.net/mera/magazine.html

2,920#

I agree with Dick, the side panels may be the same/similar weight, but the front and back lids are definitely a lot heavier. The front lid is so heavy I could probably use it to crack open coconuts here.

before reading the article, I thought Fieros were metal. learning every day. OG panels are lighter than re-body, that sucks. the weight in the article was based on a manual. is the auto. trans. lighter???

Good references, Tom, thanks. My car came from the same dealer as in the article.

"Cracking" coconuts on Turagi Beach, ca.1967

Interesting kit, '87 w/48k miles, $8k. Wonder what no top does for structural integrity.

Hey Dick, now THAT's funny! Jeez, Turagi Beach...that's down in the South Pacific isn't it?

That kitcar looks very nicely done, but would have looked better with flush-fitting headlight doors. I imagine if done right, he would have installed one of those big "X" braces under the frame to keep the body from flexing. I dunno...I'm just not feeling the love for a convertible 308 look.

LOL...I'd rather pay $8K to have a nice garage like that!!

Check your PM.

Here's the URL for some more shots of this guy's great garage ;-)

http://www.use.com/editset....f00767197a63cf0847a2

He has some pretty neat toys in the background--is that an Ariel Atom or a Wrightspeed X1 parked next to it?

Are these for the interior door handle escutcheons? They do look good. I think the Fiero logo/symbol is really cool--too bad Bracey didn't see fit to integrate it into the Mera badge.

I have Mera badges on my door handles--I think Paul V put them on there. Check with Rodney.

Polo shirts! Try Queensboro.com.

Here are some old "Fiero Owner" articles that came with the car: http://cid-d42fccc03b76b32c...se.aspx/Public?uc=4. Appears FOCOA and "Fiero Owner" are long gone--too bad.

thank you for the articles.dang. thats tough. there are pictures of PRODUCTION!!! very helpful. look in the back grounds. try to get a feel of the whole process.

I was looking for this exact kind of stuff. I have a very low VIN #. one of those pictures is from at best early 1987. My car might be one of thoes. did he say SE special order. MINES AN SE!!!! by VIN anyway. WHOOOOO....slow down. man i am shakin'.

you know "when you just know". I feel weird. whoops... RPO sheet says mines a black one. Damn. wish they were in color.EDIT:
looks to be a black set on the floor in another picture though.
EVEN BETTER! cuz its in front of the others if that is a split picture. Half and half. one side storage the other work shop.

yeah... I wonder if the "panels against the wall" are Mera or Fiero???

in another thread i asked about how many cars were working. looks like 4 or so. at a time. man that place was BIG.

Fiero mera weight 2590lbs
Ferrari weight 3250lbs

A 308 destined for the American market would sport much larger heavier bumpers and a slightly sturdier frame (and many other smaller details) in order to meet stringent US road safety standards.

the 308's bodywork was entirely made of glass-reinforced plastic (or GRP), allowing a very light weight of 1,050 kg (2,315 lb). The engine borrowed its dry-sump lubrication from Ferrari's racing experience. This lasted until June, 1977, when the 308 was switched to steel, resulting in an, alleged, 150 kg (331 lb) additional weight. However, a steel-bodied GTB only weighs 12 kg (26 lb) more that its fiberglass body

Dick: Thanks for uploading those articles! Great reading, first time I've seen a couple of them.

Dan: LOL...calm down guy, grab a cup of coffee! J/K. Hey, the nose badge looks great! Check your e-mail.

Australian: Can you provide the source of the Mera weight? If you have an article or spec sheet, can you please e-mail it to me or better yet, post here?

Check out the Fiero F355 Spyder on eBay--pretty, http://tinyurl.com/yb5ld76 . The question becomes, why would you want 1 of 12000 (in the case of the F308) when you can have 1 of 248.

Even if he had all of the info right wrt years (and he most certainly does not), I am not even convinced that this is a Mera.

Supposedly there was only one 1986 Mera, and that's probably more folklore than fact--Rodney should know.

I have seen this. this may be the article cuz, it was Rodney I got info from. Funny, this Mera-NSX is the guy I bought my '87 stock Mera from. see his sig.

This is the thread where he states in his 3rd post about my Mera not having the Back up lights. this thread got me going on the Mera build # quest.

To me, he states that "my" Mera did not have the Ford back ups. Or that it had the "308 light configureation". same thing right?? This started all my rants in another thread I started in the tech part of pennocks, titled "Mera owners in Michigan, HELP".
please help clear any misinterpation i may be having. thanks.

Also do we know if the "'86" proto MERA was built on an '85 Fiero SE???
My '86 built Fiero SE has such a low '87 Vin# that it could be the '86 proto without back ups.unless it was built on an '85.

this is also, I think, where I got Rodney to explain that not all '87 Meras may have had Back ups.
its very confusing. so I gave up.

Seeing that I cannot find the Build # I refer to My MERA as FrankenMERA, or MERA X.
not being a DOCUMENTED MERA, with references I found in the archives I concluded that this "MERA X" is a salvage mera package
installed on a '87 Fiero. and will swap engines later. if it were a REAL MERA i would consider keeping her stock. anyways
thanks for the links/info. Breakfast time, be back later-

hey guys. went and pulled the back up lights today too wash and it got me thinkin. are your documented Meras back up lights cut in or molded into the rear panel?? just curious:

nice cut.
also a question on tail lights. seems that the turn signal and break lights are tied togeather. on each side. both blink on the turning side and both are solid on the other side. that make sence???

thank you much for the pics. look just like mine. the back ups seem to have been cut in. good
you know I red flagged the "Dry Wall" screws as a hill billy fix. but you have them also.
thats another check in the MERA column. ohh.... and the alum. brackets..... also seems to be a
MERA trait. add them to the list of varifers of Mera. its these small things that help me sleep at night
thanks again Holmes... Later

Yeah, I was a bit chagrined (do people still use that word) at the drywall screws. OTOH, glad you have 'em, too--keep us abreast (one word) of your quest.
