I saw a few MERA's here with raised white letters on the tires..... I'm off to put new tires on mine (245/60/50 & 255/60/50) and just want everyones opinion... Raised white letters out or turn them in? Unfortunately the BF Goodrich only come in RWL.
Let us know where you find the 50 profile tires! I have almost new tread on my 50s, but they are square with no telling how much axial run-out--can't drive much over 65! Good thing though, as the car is the best cop catcher in town.
Well, just look at me--call me "Dick the page turner." OBTW, that's a proper noun!

Tom, I believe that the Mera has the OEM Fiero horn. actually there is 2. so its OEM Fiero Horns. i was told this in a thread about aftermarket horns i was looking into. i wanted the horn from the RollsRoyce golf cart in the movie "CaddyShack". it plays "We're in the Money." in horn tones. kinda like the F-Car sound, you may have now. the high trumpets??
Dan is partially correct. 1987 Mera's they came with the dual Fiero specific horms. The 88's came with the pathetic single standard GM horn. It must have been some cost cutting measure on GM's part. I have compared my stock 88 to my local friends 87 Mera he purchased new. I plan to backdate mine to 87 horns. They sound more appropriate on the Mera, or any 88 Fiero for that matter.

whoops, i did not know that.....sorry. still learning everyday, thanks for the info. i also forgot to disclaim i "do" '87 Meras/Fieros exclusively and really, only the 87 SE's at that. they have the lowest production of Fieros, out of all years or something, RARE!.....
humm! come to think about it, i have only been keeping records for the '87 Meras. i hope one of you '88 guys are writting down the new '88 Mera VINS, Richard has found? i got no clue. i have mostly, a partial/whole VIN list for the 1987 Meras. i think i have 10 or so.
1987 Meras-minus Mera X for techinical complications...... 7005 7006 7014 7020 7024 7029 7064 7057?? and our ole pal, Mera # 7071. later Dan *DISCLAIM* i do however have pictures of all MERA'S that i have seen since March of 2009 to date. that may yeild something

Well, I like the '88 Mera horn--yeah, it's obnoxious, but it gets attention. My '87 GT (RIP) horn was kind of snussy.
i hope one of you '88 guys are writting down the new '88 Mera VINS, Richard has found?
Ya' know, I would think that for the "Registry" to be really valuable, the data should be made available--at least to the registrants. And no, I haven't been recording '88 VIN's, but if someone wants mine I have no problem providing it.
It's really too bad these things weren't registered as "Mera"! I wonder how the Zimmers are registered.
OBTW, there was a short side-bar article in this week's Auto Week about fake (reconstructed) Ferraris in Italy. Couldn't find the article on AW's web site, but Corbis has some pics on their site at http://www.corbis.co.in/sea...eople=&pht=&max=&p=1 (scroll to the bottom of the page)
Can't find the article anywhere, but will scan and post if anyone is interest.
Funny, that's a junior high school term (imagine 1949) meaning something like "prissy" ;-) You can look it up on "Urban Dictionary"--second definition is sorta it.
OI! heres something different....supposed to be out of Mera #8013 http://rover.ebay.com/rover...AB%3AWNA%3AUS%3A1123 says that it is a "Mera Interior"??? looks like an 'Effin....F-Car repro. to me. its funny that the actual Mera interior (door bumpers) are not even offered...hahahahaaa....

And How.....
i wonder if any of the Meras that have crossed our eyes in the last year or so, are New to the Registry?? and if so how many? i was told that Meras were far and few between. but since i have been here (a year plus) i have seen at least 10 or so change hands. the 10- 1987 Meras i know of in my list, were found recently. give or take. as too the 1986 Proto....
we seem to have stired the pot a might.....brought the bottom to the top, so to speak. good times.

I'm shocked!!!! You didn't have either of my 87's on your list. I can also say that all 87 Meras were on the SE body line. My two 87's are 7035 (I didn't think to look at the build date on the door) But the one that I'm sure will catch your eye is 6325, build of12/86 VIN 1G2PG119XHP226325. Now you have 12.

how did i miss you??? where would i have gotten this info?? i thought i was dilligent enough...in my quest. have you posted this information Here in the "Paradise...." thread? between here and My thread i started last year in the Tech section(archived, now) is the source for this list. some off Ebay with E-mail Contact. 1 little thing i may mention...my list does need updating. got lazy in the last 4 months as far as "the Hunt" goes. your cars could be in that.
ohhh..yeah. adding to the list. you have #7035. and what is the Mera # for VIN 6325? the countdown to 88 is on.
sorry i missed you. but it is actually a good thing for the fact "WE" the 87's just got bigger today. uhhhhh.....i forgot.
ohh yeah. i got this picture from a Fiero Magazine and it states that the "SE" is a special order.
I so i hope this "special order" thing, to be true. if not, the Positive Side is that with the low GM prod. number for 1987 Fiero SE's (w/V6) coupled with the idea of 88 V6 SE's turned in to the even more limited Mera SE, if you will, translates into the Rare on top of the Rare...thats the shizznite.... WIN, WIN for me...the collector of the Rare and obscure.....gets me all giddy. happy days... later Dan

Dan, can you pm me your e-mail address again? I lost it and not sure if the one that's linked here is the right one. I'll send you something. That is an awesome photo there. What magazine was that from?
Off-topic but related, here's the horn set-up on my 88GT. I would have done it with the Mera, but it already has loud air horns mounted below. I bought them at the local Checker Auto store. Pretty simple wiring, one wire is just grounded to the chassis, and the other wire I tied in to the existing wire in that big loom there on the front left fender. Don't have to worry about a relay, since that it located further North of where I tied into the horn wire. So basically I have two air horns (one is high pitched and one is low), AND the single 88 horn is still wired. It's the perfect setup, seriously, REALLY loud. I consider it paid for itself...used it probably 3-4 times to get other people's attention when they were cutting in front of me (one was a semi that I attempted to overtake on the right).

OK that babble above is only there cuz i found this on Wikipedia......*search*-Pontiac Fiero
1987 production VIN Type Cars produced 1G2PE11R#HP2##### Fiero 23,603 1G2PM11R#HP2##### Fiero Sport 3,135 1G2PF11R#HP2##### Fiero SE (I4) 3,875 1G2PF119#HP2##### Fiero SE (V6) 1G2PG119#HP2##### Fiero GT 15,968 Total production 46,581
they lump the V6 and the 4 banger togeather. i am not sure about the split. maybe 50/50??? i got no guess. i just half it and live on. 1937.5. i hope there are more of the l4's than the 2.8's.would be killer.
dang, Tommy sneaks in between.....sup T? PM on the way.
the article i think is in "Fiero Owner Magazine" the article is somewhere in this thread somewhere. you and your 35+ pages you. i think it was from the day. ohhh i will find it. its prolly in the pile with Indy's cars. i Messy. AHHH! here it is.....
Yes. "Fiero Owner Magazine"......bloody 'ell no date....the last yr mentioned in any article is, 1999. so its at least 10 years old.
while prousing my rather large pile i re-found this.....the numbers dont jive, tho....ganked from "Pontiac Fiero Connection" Mag July 1997.
25 1987 SE's 29 1987 GT's i thought they made mostly GT's then realized that it was a waste. time to remove the extra GT stuff and the such.
One disturbing detail is the "6 on GT platforms" in the 1988 section....truth be told that is the Rarest Fiero. Period! out of all Fieros.....T tops, yellow as a color....88's with gold wheels....i think, if this 6 -'88 GT is true. that would make it the most unique Fiero out there.....well cept for the 86 Proto. i say this from the opinion of the Most Limited Fiero "Option" out there. We are a Converision Option like the outsourced T-Tops.....in my opinion only....till proven that is quite boastful, aren't I... Dan

Dan, it amazes me to no end where you get all these photos and articles! VERY interesting, THANKS for posting it for us! I can't make out that number in the second column...how many did Corporate Concepts intend to make?
I'm going to have a friend in Japan search around for car forums there, and see I can post something about the Mera. The marvels of the Internet!! The only problem with Japan is that older cars are taxed higher...its an incentive that people only drive newer, more dependable cars that won't break down. So no telling if any still exist there. I'm sure there must be at least one or two still around there...probably in someone's collection (like the Japanese equivalent to Jay Leno).
Bob Bracey planned on making 1000 Meras. seemed to fall alittle short.....i must say.
all them articles were in an enevlope from the Guy in FL, i bought Mera X from. its was cool to discover them. he is/was a member here on the PFF, Known as Mera-NSX....Heath. he never calls or Emails me. does not post here anymore. one reason i was so whinny when i first got here.....the other is cuz, i am whinny.hahahahaaaa.....and bitter....i all better now. even if Mera X turns out to be a Kit or Recovery and restore. its fun enough to drive as is.....and my favorite is to Defend the Kit Car accussation with...."how many Ferrari Kit Cars do you see labeled with their manufracturer name on it??? freeking Dolts, they are! dinners a callin Later D

When I had my 86GT, the previous owner took out the cat and replaced it with the straight pipe that the Fiero Store sells. Kept the stock muffler. I have to admit, without the cat, the V-6 REALLY rumbles! On the down side, the idle would always be on the high side. And the exhaust was more nauseous (didn't bother me though). And every parking structure I rumbled through, I'd be setting off car alarms left and right. It was funny. Had to be real careful too, whenever a cop was near/next to me, I had to let that baby coast.
[This message has been edited by Fiero-in-Paradise (edited 07-16-2010).]
is it really that loud??? may have to re-think it. you know tho, the cops do not even look twice at me.....since the car is so small it feels faster than it really is. i love that. in the Trans Am its a different story..i get sooo many tickets in that car....its broke tho. Dan
Holy Crap Dan!! If that article is correct, I purchased one of the SIX 88 Mera GT's! Is there anyway that number can be verified?? My title clearly lists my car as a Fiero GT. It has the GT steering wheel, stock GT leather, and factory Performance sound which I believe was not available on the Formula in 88. I will dig out my factory 88 brochure to verify this. Pics of my car when I got it are still posted back in this thread. In fact, Dan was the one that put them in the thread. I vote Dan for Mera Historian!

Yep, that's mine....... the Ocelot without a cat, it will be throaty for sure. Don't know how it will sound with a stock muffler and tips though, but It's worth a try.
Here's a side shot, still working on getting the right springs to lower it slightly.
And the dash ......

Without the history that goes with it (e.g., more info on the meet, who the winner was, what other Meras were there, Mera #, etc.), the plaque is pretty much worthless. IMHO, of course.

i am more of an Archiver.....the guy who writes down what the Historian is dictating..... i love the Absolute Truth.....you know all opinions aside.....the flat out, final Truth.
the numbers, as far as the SE vs GT, are all over the place and are sure to prove, spectulation to a certian degree. i dont know.....i will still hunt for this truth. but for now, i think i am going to take Mera X to a car show 25 miles from my house. later Dan

Hey Tom!
I took over this as a botched project and have spent the last few years correcting and finishing the project. There are still some issues but I'll eventually get to it all. It still has a 2.8 (for now) , automatic, early 90s Mitsubishi dash, VDO gauges, and a host of changes that don't appear in the photos. The shifter has been changed to a stick shift replica, and a custom welded subframe brace with removable center section for gas tank access.
Now I'm at the stage of sorting out the suspension parts to drop it slightly to close the fender gaps and redoing the interior panels and seats to better match the new dashboard. Last will be new paint with some custom changes like fabric covered roof to replicate the GTS lift off targa top. There might even be a few GTO cues added. I would really like to do this over in black I doubt that I can get the panels smooth as glass to have black really work.

I took a quick look at this last week. It is a modified stock Fiero/Mera interior for the most part. Looks kind of ugly to me but each to his/her own.

Tom, I almost did not buy the car, because I did not believe it was a real Mera. Everything I had read at the time said the 88's were all built on Formula platforms. Now it appears Nelson has one too. Just four to find. I have been communicating with the Fiero enthusiast from Taiwan. He told me that 100 Fieros were sent to Taiwan in 87 and 88, and most were GT's. He will be sending me more info on the exhaust system we have been researching. It is interesting that so many Mera's were sent to Japan. I wonder if any of the 88 GT Mera's are over there?
