No 17 has also been modified to remove the standard backup lights and incorporate them into the tail lights. It is currently badged as a F308 and that is the F308 configuration.
hey Indy?? this is Rumored to be Mera #7006.....notice the lack of back up lights??
i believe its been archived here in this thread.....somewhere. i still plan to print all the Mera specific threads for a Mera continuity thread this winter....will help set in stone an updated list of the "Mera Specific Qualities".......hopefully we can help update the Mera Registery for Mr. Dickman, as well.
i know of a bunch that have sold recently, but to no one here. no, current owners or new recurits......they must not know about this place.
anyway. FLIP!!! Dan
That looks exactly like the Mera I have in my barn (third one aquired off E-Bay), same color, wheels, seat upholstry, rear lighting and I too do not have the MERA lettering on the rear (I am missing one letter for it). All the rest of the MERA emblems are present. I don't recall if the rear louvers are black or silver though.

Please post some pics of your Mera's for our thread? We are a growing community here!
Just a few pics from the Redskins Rides show I was in yesterday. The Players lot looked like an episode of Unique Whips. Have a bunch to post but I'll put them in another topic AFTER I get done fighting with PIP.
OMG!! Lovely! Beautiful! Awesome! Love the curves!
And the car ain't bad either!
Seriously, very nice ride! Dang...the insides of your front and back lids look nicer than the outside of my Mera. Question: Are those vents above the radiator functional? Also that rear plate that sits behind the trunk and covers the lights/wiring...is that just painted, or is it covered with vinyl material? (Mine is all "bubbly" so I'm contemplating on how to refinish it.) Tom
[This message has been edited by Fiero-in-Paradise (edited 08-24-2010).]
Vents are not functional. Can't bring myself to make the cuts (yet). The back trim piece, trunk cover and front spare tire area cover are homemade from "hobby board" purchased at Lowes covered with vinyl and attachedwith 3m adheasive. Back trim is oversized and just flex fits onto the shelf covering the gap. The truck cover flex fits into the opening and rest on 4 small tabs. The spare tire cover fits into the opening and is hinged. I used the factory roof panel mounts for the cover mount supports. Pic of a 84 308 that was at the show for inspiration.

The one thing relating to that which makes absolutely no sense, is that he pointed out to me that there was "bodywork" done to the rear, as he explained why it did not have the Ford backup lights. That would make sense if someone were explaing how their 1988 Mera got those taillights, but actually seems to go against the thought that this would be the one & only 1986...as in that case, and I'm sure Rodney would agree, there would not be any bodywork to the taillight area, as they never would have had the Ford backup lights in the first place.
So when you go there to see the car, try to get a look in behind the taillight area/see if it looks like there was any alteration as far as the taillights go.
i found this in the archives.....Mera-NSX is my Mera's previous owner. i bought it from him. seems to mention that his "Red Stock 1987 Mera" (see his signature) also had no back up lights??? this could be possible in the first cars, i hope. you may be a factor in this now too.
I/we need all the info you care to share, here on the PFF. you can post anything you feel comfortable.....i need only the last 5 VIN digits and the Mera Build number.....of all your Meras.
man, Indy-resto-guy and Nelson are the collector extremes......ohhh....i may have a couple owned by a guy form England showing up here, also. that is as of this Morning. the guys name is Barry.
ahhhh......more later. D

seems that the silver is due to fade. if you're is silver look underneath, it may still be black under there. mine is whew, this got me going, too.....i cried about this a long time ago, but got set straight
Also, the seller said he was contacted by another person who apparently owned four other Meras asking similar questions and the seller said that that person was satisfied with the answers/details.
I also sent Rodney a PM and he replied back said that the VIN matched an '87 Mera, number six made.
Thanks for all of your help. Now to keep an eye on the auction
to see the pictures, click the link in the Quote above, then hit "View M's gallery", then hit "My Cars". they are in there still.
something else......ohh the VIN for this car....

From the ebay post, the VIN is: 1g2pg119xhp226325. I will reach out to Rodney and see if he might be able to match the VIN.
Thanks again!
Jeff
i am gonna see if i can copy the link to my old Mera Thread in the Tech section. thats where this info is. Later Dan

That auction has been running on ebay for a few months, that seller has alot of rare/interesting car related materials such as that one. I have a few originals of that color brochure which were given to me when I purchased my 88 Bracey Mera. But I don't believe there are actually any Mera emblems viewable on the car shown in the pictures of that brochure. Also, interesting to note that the Mera pictured in the brochure has the real Carello Ferrari tail lights (as my 87 Mera does), and not the ford backup lights more commonly associated with the Mera. That brochure can also be seen by going to fiero.net, clicking on "showroom", then go to "mera sales brochure". Rodney's Mera article as well as another 2 page black & white sales ad are also viewable there as well. Of the Meras I own, none of them came with any original Mera emblems. I'd imagine that most all of the original Mera owners got rid of them to re-badge with Ferr. emblems, not really thinking much about the history or rarity of the Mera down the line.

Very nice paintwork! I like all the "hood ornaments" in front too! Can you show a pic of you back up camera set up inside the car. I really want to get one of these. Compared to my 88 GT, the Mera is very difficult to see behind and to the sides. Whose camera system are you using? I would like to get the new system GM has that displays in the rearview mirror when backing. That is really nice.
I don't know if it's a Rodney bumper. It came with the original kit. It does use OE ferrari lenses like Rodneys so if it's not it is probably very close.
As for the back up camera - it's a generic cheapie and if I to do it over, and I will, I will get a larger screen. I am just using the provided "dock" for the screen. No fancy mount at this time. I'll shoot some interior pics this weekend - It's basically stock but very clean with a few tweaks/
The one owner 87 Mera here in El Paso has those exact same Compomotive wheels and was purchased new from Southern California Pontiac dealer. Probably the same dealership sold this Mera based on the wheels. Lose the lambo doors, replace the mirrors, installl correct upholstery, fresh paint, and you will most likely have a correct 5-speed Mera.
[This message has been edited by Rick 88 (edited 08-26-2010).]
heres a twist. a kit car add that does not mention Mera at all, but has the back up lights.....
Many of the smaller "left over" Mera pieces eventually made it to the kit car market. As an example, my F308 replica has Mera tail lights. The backup lights may be another example of this process. Especially since the owner states that it is built on a 1985 or 1986 Fiero platform.
ya dan, that f308 kit car has lambo doors, and ferrari badges.... it needs a multi brand therapist huh lol
and built on a Pontiac. i kinda like the Lambo doors. its different. the car is close to Mera, from what i can see. seems to have the door "bumpers" what do you guys think? i am fittin' to call the seller later today, to see if it has a Mera number. we will see. D

do we have this one owner 87 Mera documented here on the PFF? if not we (ie...Me) need more info and pics please. Dan

Dan,
He is a nice older retired guy, just a little private. I talk to him every few months. His 87 Mera has under 50 k miles is a 5 speed and has the same "Ferrari look" upholstery pattern as your car in saddle, with the additional pleated leather on the center console and door panels along with the cut pile carpeting.
The Compomotive wheels were on the car when he purchased it new in California. It is lowered about 1.5 inches and is original paint. I have tried to purchase it for years, but I think he will be buried in it. Now that I have mine, he wants to go for a cruise. After my "secret" Mera project is done, we will take the cars out together and turn some heads!
do you have the Mera number by chance?? also i am seeking info on the Powered Mirrors in early 87 Meras. i have documentation that states a Manual Vitaloni drivers mirror and switch. the 1986 has the manual mirror too, i think. still waiting on confirmation, tho.
i am very interested in the 1987 Meras. this will help me find mine. through process of elimination. any and all info on this 1987 Mera is very apprecated. the secret "Mera project" is out now. wonder what it could be? cant wait to see. Dan

Dan,
As I recall, his 87 has exactly the same power mirror switch as my 88. However, I am not sure if it only works on one mirror. I used to remember the production number for the 87, but I am drawing a blank at the moment. I think Rodney may have him on the registry.
Shhhhhhh! "Secret Mera Project" is almost underway. Just waiting on a few goodies.
7071 had power vitaloni mirrors on both sides. but i have seen the manual ones on the drivers side as well. ask nelson, he is knowledgeable. or ask rodney as well. my .02
i have real ferrari early 80's power vitaloni mirrors but they are slightly different than the mera's but share the same part number for the flag part of the mirror. but from 5ft away look like the correct mirror.

Interesting.... so the base mount is the only difference? Can you post side by side pics? I have seen an 80's Alfa Romeo manual Vitaloni mirror. It looks just like the Mera mirror, but I think is slightly smaller.

for those who may not have seen this......re-post.
and heres a shot of my drivers side mirror.
notice no hole for wires if there were wires. the glass panel is fixed and no motor. i do not know. i need to verify that the 86 has the fixed panel drivers mirror and i would be chuffed to bits..... whoops.....sorry mates, too much "TopGear" again. on the BBC. love that channel. D
Do you have that conversion list for the 88 Mera too?
Nope. it came in a info packet the PO sent me upon sale. it took me awhile to realize what it said! its pretty cool.....or a fake made by the same PO. it seems to be a photo copy, i hope of the org. document. its is good that the Cromadoras are not mentioned (adds to the authenticity) along with the 3 speed auto trans, which i have.
*EDIT* also just noticed that it states "sunroof optional"... no mention of T-Tops???
off to the MetroCruise..... its 55 miles one way, in Grand Rapids, MI. think i can make it?? we will see. Laters D

Both are mentioned in the copy of the flyer I have--one as a Mera feature, the tops as a Fiero option.
I'll copy and post,
Dick

Sure, this is a high rez file--big! My email address is in my profile, send me an email and I'll return photo as an attachment. Anyone else also. I have copies of the other pages, but haven't scanned them yet--I'll post.
rick the alfa mirror is smaller but only slightly. the ferrari mirror however uses the same part number as the mera. so very similar in size and shape. the base is different.
