I know of some Meras that lost the MERA letters when removed for paint or during a F308 "conversion". Some of these "conversion" letters are still floating around but you cannot buy them without also buying the car.

Nelson, are the actual Mera letter different than the ones you now have? My originals look like individual letters that were never connected to each other. See page 13 of the thread for pictures of my letters.

sounds like a "sales add" to me. *hint hint* buy some Mera letters and get the car free!!!! kidding.
hey Rick?? i think your letters look the same. the "R" is filled in to the tip.... CC most likely did a fine job with the sander for a big, seemless finish....
the other "connected" letters are a straight cut and in the case of the "M" its a small cut.....that is me $.02
*edit* in retrospect....the "E" looks to be a tough cut.....if there is a sign, it would be in the "E"

I'll take a real close looks at them to see if my letters are cut apart. You know our license plate lights are modified Fiero units, so maybe the MERA letters are in fact cut from the Grand Am letters Nelson has.
BTW, not all of the letters are from a Grand Am. I have two original sets of MERA letters and some of them appear to have been cut from the initial letter strings. Since one of them is still off the car I will look at them and let you know which letters I think have been cut if anyone wants to know. From memory, the R is one of them and I believe that the A is also in the same category.

As best as I can tell, the original MERA letters are the same as the NOS emblems that I located. All fonts and sizes are identical to my eye and I am certain that some of the letters were cut to make the individual ones used in MERA.

Same here, decklid is heavy, but it does pop (unlock) open. I have dual struts, but I doubt that makes a difference when the lid is in that position. Foam block may help, but not sure how long the "springness" would last. A strategically-placed hood spring may the the way to go. Wonder if there is a way to increase the spring tension on the torsion springs?
Just going thru old posts. When I did my 3.4 swap I reset my decklid springs to the next tighter adjustment, and now my decklid stays up just fine all by itself, without an prop rod, or gas struts!! My aching noggin thanks me
Dan, when are you going to post the registry newsletters?
Thanks......Wait, is that good bad or bad bad??? the newsLetters......well i am nnot sure if i can. i will ask Rodney how he feels about it. but i am also, saving them like a Christmas Present. i have only browsed them to tell the truth.
i need busi-work for the Winter.....or i seek danger.
my exhaust set up is stock as far as i know, but i Saw-Zalled "a piece of pie" out of the pipe before the muffler. a nice pulse at speed. kinda like the outflow force when it hits the muffler it kinda backs up and out the notch. well it finally broke, due to the "lead foot throttle, fatigue syndrome" prevalant with my cars, for some reason. now it sounds like i have a hole in me muffler.
so thats why it sounds so "baaaaad".....i fixxie tomarrow.
you know, speaking of Ole Mera X......he did a fine job today. we went on a ColorTour with the Mich. Fiero Club today, 250 miles, round trip, took all day and X ran brillantly.....bloody spot on.
dont believe me......?? you knew this was commin' . PICS!
since y'all wont post pics..... heres s'more!!
sorry, thats it for now.....i only took 76 pics today. thats a start

I agree I know they're completely impractical, but I can't help but love 'em I should start a countach sanctuary: a place people can drop off their beloved cars when their spouses start nagging them to sell

Joe: looks like a non-stretch? Mirage K?
Not entirely sure of the manufacturer of the body. I purchased the thing 3rd hand and the previous owner didn't know anything about the body kit, he got it second hand and he barely spoke english. The Fiero was an 87, 2.8 v6 and the frame wasn't stretched. The cradle just went back in but I've still got some exhaust work to do before I'll be satisfied. I also think I need to redo the mounting points on the radiator, I'm not thrilled with the airflow with the really low front end. It runs warmer than I like above 55 mph. It's all going to be about airflow direction. The radiator is laid back to clear the front bonnet and I either need to build a fiberglass chamber with twin electric pusher fans or lay the radiator forward, build a fiberglass chamber and ditch the spare tire to open up an escape path for the heated air. Once that is done, it should be as perfect as it can be for a non stretch. The interior is all lambo with some Fiero switches and HVAC panel, but still needs a couple of items like a different shift knob. Also need the correct rear tires..... but at almost $1100 for a pair of Pirelli PZeros, I'll probably suffer with some Mickey Thompson 26 x 12.5 instead of the 27" tall 295/50/15s on there now.
Actually, the car is damned inconvenient. Getting in and out for anyone over 5'8" is a chore. I didn't realize how tight it would be for me until the end. I'm 6' and my shoulder and head gets in the way while getting in and out and my head just grazes the headliner while driving. Oh well. The other thing is that I can't drive the dang thing anywhere without getting really annoyed in traffic. It seems like everyone wants to either accelerate or slow down and position themselves in your blind spot and pace just to gawk. Same thing goes for parking lots..... go inside and get a bite to eat and at least 5 or 6 different people have to walk around the car car and take pictures. Fortunately nobody had put their hands on anything, at least not that I've seen. Without a doubt, It's the most attention getting car I've ever had and I've had lots. Might be too much attention at that.
joe are you having trouble matching the OEM sound?? wish i could get my Mera to sound like that.
as to the attention problem. its not so bad for me with people walking around while parked. that i know of. but the blind spot thing kills me....so i floor it, they race with me and lose.
but with a Lambo i can only imagine....i know what i would do.....no touchy tho.....i got manners i would snap pictures, pictures, pictures.....i touch things with the lens of my camera. you got a sharp lookin car..... also if i could ask what model series....GT/SE/Formula.....are both your 1987 Fieros? the '87 SE is a low production for that year.....FYI later D

I'm with you on the Countach. Over 20 years ago I purchased a wall art of a white Countach and kept it in plain sight over the years as a reminder of my goal to own that car. Mine is nearly identical except for the non stretched wheelbase, but it's close enough for me.
Once I finish the exhaust on the Countach, I'm confident that the sound will be acceptable. It has ceramic headers, factory piping (no cat) with ansa tips. All the factory pipe will get redone and will retain the Ansa resonators. You heard the sound clip of my 328 right? This should end up with more of a higher pitched scream and not sound like the normal Fiero exhaust.
The Countach is an 87 SE. The 328..... not really sure. It now has a custom VIN (2003) as the original VIN tag was missing. I never dug around the spaceframe to find any other numbers. It does have a notchback trunk opening, the interior was replaced, power windows and locks, 2.8 automatic with a/c and cruise control. ------------------ 84 2.5 87 328 GTB replica. 87 Coutach replica

Well to me the M, E, and A on my car do not appear to be cut, however the R does. Either they did a great cutting job on the M, E, and A and a poor job on the R, or maybe the R was replaced at one time. I still don't know......
Both you kits are really nice examples. Where did you find them? You must have you neighbors wondering what you do, I still have a poster of the maroon "Alpine" audio Countach on the wall in my "man cave"
[This message has been edited by Rick 88 (edited 10-20-2010).]
The way the letters are set up, the R has to be slightly undercut to separate it cleanly from the other letters on the "GRAND" since you have to reuse the A in this letter series. The A in "AM" was likely sacrificed to get the M cut cleanly. All others can be cut apart from unused/discarded letters to help produce the appropriate beveled edge.

That's a bit of a sore subject. The ones that really know me are aware that I manage a high ticket musical instrument retail store and am a professional musician as well. There are some jealous low lifes that pass rumors that I'm a drug dealer. It must make the dirtbags feel better about themselves spreading rumors like that due to their lack of any real success. Of course the 87 Buick GNX clone and the Camaro SS parked along with them just makes it worse. Now as far as where I find them? Any time I search for a car I prowl the internet looking for that paticular type of item for sometimes a year before I find the right car, which I usually have a bad habit of picking up someone else's unfinished project. The Lambo came from New Jersey, the 328 came from down here in Florida, the same goes for the Buick (owned since '92) and the Camaro (since 02). Sometimes it takes me years to finish, depending on how incomplete the car is. None of these are what I would call finished, the lambo still needs the interior finished as well as some TLC to make it look OEM, the Ferrari only has a guide coat and really needs a good paint job, the GNX needs paint, so does the Camaro. All of these are getting all the mechanicals and everything else required so that the very last thing they get is a new coat of paint.
A mera is better than a real 308 any day of the week. meras are affordable to repair and the engine capabilities are endless.... the ferrari has very little support of aftermarket parts. i would own a mera any day of the week over a real 308. my .02 mike in oklahoma

What instrument do you play Joe?
My cars are nice drivers too. The Mera is actually very nice, needing only minor paint work to be primo. I believe pics of it are on page 13 in this thread. My 68 327 el camino is done mechanically and drives great. I just need new paint, carpets and headliner to be done. My 72 455-HO Trans Am is my car I will be buried in. I have had it the longest. It runs like a bear but also needs new paint. I last painted it in 1981 to give you an ideal of how long it has been mine. All my wife's cars have excellent paint....whats up with that??
Back in the day I drove Grand Nationals and T-Types for demos when I worked for Buick. They were lots of fun.
I would not mind slouching down any day to ride in your Countach.....
Hey, are any of you guy using Rodney's 1 in lowering ball joints with the Chromadora 15 in wheels? I want to lower the front of my Mera I may even install 88 GT springs with 1 coil removed as well. I have close to a 5 in. gap from the top of the 245/45/50's to the fender. I want to reduce that by about half if possible. Let me know what you have done and how you did it.
