Can you email me pictures of the back side of the sail panel? I wanted to see how it attaches. What are you going to do for your car?

Rodney used to offer a metal strut bolt cover for the 88's. I have one, but still have not installed it on the Mera.

I have to take my passenger side off, thats why the pictures would come in handy. I can see where the fasteners attach.

I think he's still working, and probably in CA doing Blue Bloods. Talked to him about a year ago by phone, not since then--I'll get some info when we talk again. A bunch of us are considering a get-together in HI this spring, but don't think I will make it--probably be corresponding about it though. I'll let you know.

Interesting, as I recall the GTB had an MR2 style rear window thus a view out. Of course, if you take the masking off the rear window, you will have improved viz.

OBTW, here's a screamer, and a screamin' deal in North Hollywood--my high school stomping ground.

observation.....

the backs of Richards and mine look real close on the turns, albiet mine are WRONG! CRAP!
but i see REHolmes has a mount screw at the top.....me not so much top, as bottom and both sides, high.

BUT, if you ask me these on Mera X look to be molded. in EXACT!! and they are the Carello's.....F-Car.
it fits perfect. my Mera1 ambers are not loose but do not fill the hole as nice as the Carellos......Amazing!!!

also notice that there is a tab in the same realitive spot for both light holes.
the turn's, tabs have been broken off to accomidate the Amber backs.
but i have photo proof that the bottoms are there
hmmmm....i am going to have to tear them apart this spring. check on list.
i need your input on this.....ALL OF YOU. please. well at least two different 1987's and 2 different '88's.
could really use some pictures....

are the tabs molded? is a first good question
is the TRI-Pattern seen in Mera X a ProtoType thing?? or is it a sign for the worst!!!!!eeek!
must see the 1986 Mera in person.
hopefully can verify alot at Detroit AutoRama 2011.......SUNDAY!!!!SUNDAY!!!!!SUNDAY!!!!! sorry got carried away.
i do too realize that my reverse light HAVE been cut in after the fact.
not sure about this yet....but it would play in to a 1987 Proto Early thing for me if it were to be true.......

I have been told to "get involved" with this tread, that its were the action is, but wow after reading the last several pages I feel I may have just walked into a nest of snakes! Not to upset the apple cart, BUT, my Mera is a 1988, listed on the title as a 1988 PONT FGT , so it is a GT for sure. As for being a Mera the tag is there it is #8002, and the vin number matches. Correct me if I am wrong but that makes it the second car of this run, out of how many? There are photos posted on my thread "New Kid On The Block" please check those out and let me know what you all think. I also have another thread running about putting a Ferrari horn in my Mera, in case you have knowledge on that. Nice to be here. WWP

p.s. Rodney, I believe you know this car through its previous owner David Snow (Texas).

I get the feeling you might be talking about me? I would love to do Hawaii again, the last time I got off the plane and said " I flew 7 hours to come to Florida!" After three days, and a hell of a sunburn, I fell in love with the place and didn't want to come home. Tommy, you ever get "rock fever?"

wayne, since your 88 is a gt it is actually fairly rare for a 88 mera. as i understand it i think there are only 6 88 gt meras the rest were formulas. you might check with rick88 for the facts on that as he also has a 88 gt mera.

Wow, glad to see more Mera owners!! Its funny, when I first started this thread, I thought for sure it would be just a few pics, a few comments, and off to the archives!

When I first got my Mera, all four lights would light up when I hit the brake. Obviously that wasn't meant to be, only the two red lights should light up. I spent about two hours trying to figure out how to mix and match the bulb holders. Then it occurred to me that my Mera was built on Formula, and thus, the different light setup. After studying the wiring diagram, I found one single white wire under the steering column. All I had to do was cut it, and bingo...tail and brake lights work with just the red, and the signal only with the amber. It was a great feeling to figure that out..sorta like the bomb disposal guy cutting the right wire.

Yep, food is the killer here...I think tourists get ripped off, but that's only because they do not know where to go for the local "grinds." Anywhere in Waikiki will be expensive, especially any restaurant in a hotel, but go outside and you can find the really good "cheap eats." Even the McDonalds in Waikiki and Ala Moana Mall jacks up their prices, as compared to outside Waikiki. The "lunch wagons" are THE places to eat...where you can get a local lunch in a styroform container so heavy that you need to carry it with two hands (two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad, and entrees like teriyaki chicken, braised shortribs, beef or curry stew, etc.) After 6:00pm, you can get the combo plate at Taco del Mar for $6.00 (normally runs $7.50 during the day). I think as with any tourist location, you can either eat expensive or cheap, just need to know where.

Cheers!
Tom

THE ONO KINE GRINDS, BRAGH???!!!!!
yummy....I have been obsessing on the TV show...."Man VS Food" and the host used that term......getyasum!

Tom, we may need to take a POLL on this tail light situation.
if more than 2 meras have this "problem" maybe it is a "THING".

i like that they "all Light up". lets people know i am slowing. its weird that they seem legal?
i get cops behind me all the time.....no problems so far.....2 seasons, now.
the 3rd Brake light works on mine fine too.....hmmmmmm?
i seem to be missing a PigTail/Socket for the double Turns, so i can light up the whole lens.

with the 1986 Mera having the white in the middle of the Ambers.....wonder what it uses for the turns??

anybody got a diagram i can compare the 3 Fiero models, for the rear light configuration?
GT, SE and Formula?? i am gonna do some looking too.....
i will run the leads down for possible wiring senieros..... for both years.
what we need?? 2 for the Brakes. 2 for the Turns and 1 each side for the Reverse lights??
thats 5 per side.....wow seems like a lot?

later

D

if you are refering to the "Free Trade" war, thats been squashed.....HOPEFULLY!!!!
that dont happen with the Mera Core!

and yes i was refering to you above. we got yelled at by the members for "having more than 1 Mera thread".
so i thought i would invite you over here and spread the Mera Love.....but do not close the other thread(i wont let it archive, anyway )
MERA DOMINATION

i do not know so much about the 1988's....i am a 1987 man and you are right you have 1988 Mera #2 out 159.
we do have copy of the 1986 Proto-type here in this thread, too
so its 1986 PROTO- #6001.
the '87 are #7001- #7088
and 1988's #8001- #8159 .

anyway i will edit, later after i see a driveway about a snow shovel.....later

I would have to dig up Rodneys e-mail but as I recall it is 191 build.Without looking I can't say when the car (Formula config) was shoved off the Fiero line. It is all original except for tires and the battery and fluids. Still runs R-12 in the A/C with only normal service. I am either the third or fourth owner of the car and I think but am not certain when new the car was purchased in Indy. With just over 60K on the clock it still drives as new. It is also the first place winner (not best of class-a real let down for me) at the 25th aniversary show. Find a copy of the DVD of the 25th for an interview and more shots of the car in a walk around, it is also in the 25th aniversary book near the middle of the pages. I did get with the car all the original badging with the exception of the nose emblem, the prior owner to me lost it somewhere. While being the newest of the three I have it is also the higher miler of the group. I don't have pics of the others to this extent at this time but that may change because I need to rearange the barn to get in another Camaro, it sure got tight fast in there.

All for now. . . . .

you know now that it feels like winter....i say its.....
TIME TO START A PENNOCKS ONLNE MERA REGISTERY

whos down??
every week or so, i peel back 5-6 pages. have been doing now for months and i see this.......PERFECT!
well cept the lack of the 1987 Mera stuff. INDY?? GIMMIE!! please.....actually all MERA OWNERS 1987 and 1988, alike.....

i ask ALL MERA OWNERS HERE.....to post a page of info (a little write up and any pics) you want to be published in a book or on the NET.
i will organize all info given with the back up being here, in this very thread.....or i can start a new one.
i feel this "Monster" thread may be better for the general get togeathers......this may need to be in the "Tech" section???
not sure.....please let me know how you all feel about this bold statement of mine....i am perpared to take it on.....getyasum

ANYBODY FEEL ITS TIME TOO?? i hope to work with Rodney Dickman on this.....but it is his call.

if he feels it is not for him, "we" can start anew with what we have on the PFF and hopefully he can update his info. from this topic.
i think over the last 59 pages here, we have shaken out some new ones from ebay totally.

i feel its time to document and release all information concerning our Meras for the future inclusion into the "Pontiac, The History of".....books

names are not necessary.....but a "Handle" would help.
Mera serial Numbers will be tha most descriptive....and used as a default.

if this idea starts clicking.....hardcopy hand-outs will be avalible at the MERA REUNION 2011!!!

Daniel-
Mera X

Dan,

That changed to four Meras when I got the black 87 T-Top about four months ago. This one has been modified to a F308 model and I need to decide what to do with it sometime this year.

thats right.....see its time to ironout and record all the info collected here and else where on the world wide web.
i have found other Meras, lurking at car sites, like the GTO club and most recently the Miata boys.
the V8 Miata is pretty sweet. with a body package....its got me thinkin.
if you want type up any info you want released and we can start to pull something togeather to present to the Massess.

Mera Domination Begins now.....you too MIKE.
you can go further Mike, if you want and do a doucmented custom Mera build.
we can use that to bridge the gap between the Meras and the 308 kits.....and then that will snowball into all Fiero Kits.
ect....Aldinos...ect.....the Zimmer....the Ferrari 308 with the Fiero engine is going in tooo.....

big fun.

Daniel

2 for the Turns and 1 each side for the Reverse lights??
thats 5 per side.....wow seems like a lot?

later

D

dan, fyi... the original early fiberglass european 1975-1977 ferrari 308's had solid amber rear turnsignals and the reverse lights were in the rear bumper.

yeah...i have chatted with him a little....them Kelmark's are really cool looking. then i found that ripping one with the V8.

look out....i liked that one.

thanks for the info update

you too Nelson are you going to want to be included in the "History that is Mera?"
with the most Meras here you have the best source for material and evidence of anomiles between the different Mera years....
i wish i could go thru all the nooks and crannies of all of them to compare and contrast.
days of fun!!

gotta go! the sky is falling.....bits of white

#8002, Several things: First, since I am new here, is this thread like "the one" for all things Mere? If so I would like to add my two cents worth, and maybe figure out a few of my cars odd habits. Things like amber brake lights & and a front end that gets lite at 90mph?
