this first bit in itself is a major revelation, to me. gives me even more hope.

and i am not refering to another 1986 Mera. i believe i have either Mera #7001, #7002 or #7003. unless you already have them on your list. #7004 is in Sweden and i am close to it so i place my Mera in between till something else comes up. like the non powered DR. side Mirror
i just do not have the whole Leather package. i am on to something concerning the door upper add-ons. i notice that most are color matched to the rest of the interior. but Mera #6001 and Mera X have black ones. and they match in the picyures, spot on. even the stitch.
this gives me the hope that i am one of these early three. sorry Nelson i am shooting for the top. #7014 is a baby compared
i often feel like my Mera is an example of the "First" AutoMatic Mera option. thats where i make reference to my being a "ProtoType."

do you, Rodney have any info concerning the Manuals Vs the Automatic Mera?? that would be cool to add to the Info updates. along with the GT, SE Formula break down.

i have also been ripping stuff off and peeking in to the underspots of my car. i got some rust only in certian spots but for the most part this car of mine is choice. i was sitting in the passenger seat today and noticed that it has barely been sat in. this car was driven/riden in by one person mostly and with only 69000 miles when i got it. thats pretty good for a 24 year old car. adverges out to 2875 miles a yr roughly 350 miles a week for 8 months a year. not bad at 50 miles a day. i do that easy.

i got to replace my wheel bearing....fun fun. never done one, look out

Daniel

acutally i have them all scanned into my computer and could cut/copy and paste, what you already have, word for word minus last names, phone numbers and addresses. i also have been working on downloading and/or printing all the 77 pages here for the fact finding. but theres so much back there. then without some sort of comfirmation of questions that arise it dead-ends sometimes. then a picture or a Mera sale resparks the debate. like the win i got with the 1986 Mera having a round trunk opening, GOOOOOOOOOOAL lllllllll!!!!!!!!!! now to confirm that the 1986 has a Manual Mirror, and i am done. i need My Mera # but even you cannot tell me definatively, that i do not have a Mera, and for that i thank you, sir

i will work on something, but at a point we need to confirm some things like SE/GT identifying and fill in the holes in what you do not have.

parts store here i come......later

Good point Dan.....

You threw me for a loop when you said you had a "prototype". An Auto trans option is deffinately not a prototype. If I understand the process, all MERA orders were taken from the dealership. The dealership then ordered the Fiero with the options required....auto, defrost, t-roof, leather....etc. Once the Fiero was received it was shipped to Capac for the MERA options. Does not matter if it came with auto. or man. transmission....that was NOT a MERA option...it was the donor Fiero option. Rare MERA options would be Nardi Steering wheel, Recaro seats etc.....

Now it all makes sence.... You have no sticker in your trunk (fell off, was removed or never was) and Rodney can't confirm the Vin number of the first 3 cars made in 77. You beleive it may be one of these 3 since your "MERA" options match 7004. - Not talking clay model prototype 1986 or anything like that. Right?

its funny you mention the Nardi steering wheel. i just saw a piece about that being an option. cool.

that Mera #6001 is a real car not a clay mock up. the clay was destroyed in the mold making process for the production Mera. i would say that these on #6001 are the first "good" ones pulled from the actual production Mera Mold used to construct.
that Silver car is the real deal first Mera ever, as per Rodney. i must own it!!!

no, i am not sure the Rodney does not have the first 3 Mera on his list, i am kinda asking if he does or not, tho

this would help me big time. the fact that i cannot have the ones on his list would more than half the numbers to fill and with the automatic vs manual knowledge i/we could half that number too. we are only talking 88 or so Mera. then to complicate things like i do so well, i see that CC was allowed to finish off the orders or something, so i also have to consider that i may have one of these.

anyway......parts store here i come

woooooha nellie....

Don't complicate things.... The consent decree between Ferrari and CC provides for the production of a small number of 1988 MERA's to phase out production. This would be the last 1988's. In otherwords, the ones that they had already been paid for but were not completed. This was in June 1988, way after any 1987 MERAS were being built.

I'm just starting to clear the water....let's not muddy it.

If you like I can call Rodney for you and quicly find out if your vin is on his list, rather than him telling us how many auto trans MERA's are on the list.

Let me know...glad to help.

If the Mera newsletters are going to be on the web page I would like to see the information typed in. Not long load time pictures. Some info is not current and some should be taken out. Each newsletter is 8 pages and that would be a very long web page for each one.

Rodney (and everyone else involved)....

I will try to run my MERA news letters through my scanner with Chatacter Recognition..... Never used it before but I'll give it a shot. Could save big time on typing. If someone is already trying this then please tell me so we do not waste our efforts. I know everyone is busy but if we all do 10% of the work (as long ast it's not the same 10%) we can do it.

Once it is text, then Rodney you can correct the updates a lot easier.... would that be a plan?

Like I said, let me know if you guys want me to try the scans. I don't want to step on toes, so I am just offering some help.

With a 1 in drop all the way around the car looks great with this combo, and my speedometer is still accurate.

Probably where I saw it ;-)

I should try the 215/60, but with round tires I will probably get a bunch of tickets!

SUP FELLAS???

hey Wayne?? according to Rick88 ( i dont do 1988 Mera ) there are only 6 GT Mera out there.
i guess the rest were made on the Forumla for that year. the SE was not offered in '88 so thats the only other way to get the V6 engine in 1988. so the GT 1988 Mera is in short supply. CONGRATS!!

sounds good to me, but its Rodneys call.
he has said we could rewrite the newsletters, but i DONT TYPE WELL so i was looking for something like you mentioned.
if you can do it, DO IT! just delete any personal info like full names, addresses and phone numbers.

maybe first name and last intial would work. location could be identifiyed by state or city.

and to condense the Newsletters we could cut out some of the adds.......not sure about that. i will leave that to the editor, Mr Dickman.

but i could arrange the info and post it here i think, thru my scanner.
might have to actually cut and paste (sicssors and tape) but it could be done.

Julians way is the way to go tho........

then its cut and paste the right way. digital!!

Since mine is also GT #8011 it appears most of the six 88 GT's were produced very early on. Perhaps because the new Formula platform was initially in short supply. ( Just a guess on my part.)

I have a MERA question that is driving me crazy. Does anyone else have the "shaky hood" problem? On my passenger side I can see the trailing edge of my front hood (near the windshield) shake when I drive.... I tried everything to adjust it.... no luck....and it pisees me off.

HELP!

Mera hoods tend to expand and contract with temperature. During the winter my hood actually lifts at the rear edges and in the summer it fits properly. You can try to adjust your bumpers to stop the shake but may need to readjust them in the summer so the hood does not have excess pressure from the bumper.

Dan has the total prodution numbers for both years. More 88's were produced than 87's. On this thread so far I count 7 individual 88's and how ever many Nelson has by himself. Oh Nelson.........

to my knowledge there are no 1988 SE Fieros..... the '88 Formulas were the closest, bare bones match.

i had to re-boot my whole system. so i need to test PIP.

ohhhhh no i dont i wish...........seems like 247 gets mentioned a lot with a definate 88@Mera made in 1987.
plus the one proto in 1986.
really the only VINs i have are the ones that have been sold in the last 2 years.....

most VIN's i have are 1987 Mera and only the last 5 digits.........
i would like to see the 1987 5th and 10 th digits with the Mera Build number

total Mera #'s breakdown:

247 - 88 (1987) = 159 left for 1988 production. i hear out of the total 247, 50 went to Europe and 50 went to Japan.

leaving the US total at 147. now out of them 147 according to the Mera Newsletters 9 of them were in S.E. Michigan in 1996.
11 in Cali, 14 in FL even got a 1987 Mera in Kailua, HI......#7069

wonder how many 1987 SE Mera Rodneys list has???

anyway T - 3 days till Mera X season3. i just tightened my front axle nut. a little loose. now i have no front end noise. i thought i needed a bearing. not sure i have yet to drive it out of the neighborhood, but it sounds better! we will see....

Daniel,

I have a great idea.... you have so much information about facts and figures on MERA-x... As with most people trying to follow your reasoning in this thread is almost impossible unless you have a few days to read 78 pages of posts. The idea is this... why not start a thread ONLY on the MERA-x and post all the data and facts you collected. From what I undestrand you could very well have a MERA. I don't mean to say "get lost" in any way.... continue chatting it up in here BUT keep your facts in one place. This would be a great way to doccument your findings.

What do you think?

I agree. When he first started he only had some exterior pictures and I was very skeptical. As time has gone by he has shown us pictures that look very much like it could be a real Mera. So all in one topic would be nice. Once he posts all his pictures I would maybe ask for some specific pictures to be taken and shown. Those of us who own Mera's can comment on all these pictures. So let him make his posts with his pictures before we start to make comments.

well i would love to do that boys but, we have been told in no certian terms to keep the Mera in one thread. back a while ago there were like 5-6 mera threads on the first page and some PFF'ers complained so we all united under Toms "Paradise thread" so i really feel that its best to keep Mera stuff in ONE Mera thread. also the rest of the guys here already know the backstory really. you 2 need to catch up or not. any pics i use will be reposts of the ones here so i can only update in a new post here.

my plan is to congeal all the MERA X info for the Fiero Focus Magazine article.....a comparision piece.

and i have a little display i am making to put out front for car shows and cruises....

Daniel

PS Rodney?? didnt i send you a disc of over 100 pics i took 2 years ago??
i have a folder labeled "Pictures for Rodney" and thought i sent that to you as a disc?
do you remember??

Starting a new topic would be no problem. Title it "Is my car a real Mera?".

Daniel,

Awsome thread you have started a few years ago..... hopefully no one told you to stop posting in it. Or did they tell you here in PFF that you had to consolidate in one thread? (I find that hard to belive). Anyways... that is what I was suggesting (I think Rodney said the same thing). Had I seen that thread, and was interested in the topic, I would have read it first.

Keep up the good work and keep all the facts together.... we may see you on the registry one day if all goes well....

From what I see so far it looks like you "may" have a slightly mutalated MERA. I will jump on your other thread and make my comments (as should anyone else) rather than hijack this general MERA thread. I can't wait to see the new MERA pics everyone will have for the Fiero Magazine. Going to be tough to beat a Hawaiian backdrop!!!!!!

Anyone see a Mera for sale lately? My oldest son already has an eye on my Mera, and my youngest says he wants my motorcycle.....NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.... so I guess I need to sell my bike for a Mera.... keep us all happy. Nelson??? got any scraps you care to part with?

no not directly but we, the Mera regulars, decided to stay on Toms thread so to keep in contact with each other and to keep this thread out of the archive
a Fourm within a Fourm

now if you could i need the definition on a "slightly mutalated" Mera, how do you mean?
whats 'Mutalated", besides the passenger louvered sail panel??

just interested in your fresh minds, eye. since you have not been exposed to my incoherance as long as these guys have i respect you point of view. keep in mind that the only thing i DO NOT have that is Mera is the sticker....ie the build number. even Rodney himself does not have all of them, correct??

so its not that i DONT have a Mera. its "i DO have a UNdocumented Mera." thats the glass is half full guy, in me

Daniel

Julian,

I would consider selling at least one of my Meras but price would be a consideration. I do not believe that it would be an inexpensive sale.

Nelson....
I assumed that but never hurts to ask.... I'm also looking at a 1933 Ford rat rod or a 1979 Alfa Romeo.

Reading this thread makes me want to get Mera 8085 off of its dollies and out of the barn. Its going to get into the mid 50's here in Northern Minnesota today, with possible rain in a couple of days to help wash the road salt away.

This winter was no different from the last several...not enough time to take on the job of repairing the stress cracks around the hood corners and near the front bumper. Oh well, I'll just drive it for another summer.

This has got to be one of the most active threads on the forum. Glad to see you guys enjoy your cars!

Julian,
8071 looks great!
8085 has 60 series tires on it. I first posted pictures sometime last year on this thread on page 32 and possibly 33.

The 60 series do fill the wells, but I found that if a crank the steering wheel one way or the other while driving up and over the garage apron I will sometimes get a very slight rub if I don't take it easy. It is the inner fender and is barely noticeable. Other than than, no fit problems.

DAN... right on...I have 255-60-15 all around and I have a very slight scuff mark in the wheel well....size of a credit card.... you need to turn the wheel all the way and hit a bump...because standing still I can't get it to touch....close though. I figured if I went with 245's it would avoid this issue...but like you said....barely noticeable.

I'm thinking of a MERA fender badge to get that Scuderia look you have.... Awsome ride bro.
