Dan the paint number I gave you is from the sticker attached to the inside of my Mera decklid by Corporate Concepts. Can't get anymore accurate than that! How about the rear shot of my car?

Top of the page again!!!! I ROCK

Of course, its not an exact match, but it comes real close. Good for touch up and such; I've used it for the lip area under the front bumper, had several stone chips. They also sell this stock number in the small touch-up bottles (the one w/ the small brush...which is useless, BTW). Bought mine at the local Checker Auto.

do they sell the Dupont in spray cans....that the key here

Dam,

Check out http://www.paintscratch.com/. They can make matching paint in an aerosol can. First, I would take your gas door to an automotive paint store to see if they can match the color. If you are absolutely sure your car is the original paint, the code I gave you will be correct. Mine is,original paint, but it is starting to get a little thin in spots.......

Julian,

Do these people ever respond to confirm receipt of Mera photos or do they just go into an electronic black hole?

in keeping with tradition i have sent millions of pictures to them Fiero Focus folks and have not gotten a confirmation.

i think its part of the fun.....to get the issue and see....it is a contest after all.

maybe after the deadline the winners will be contacted.....either/or, i cant wait to read the article.
wonder where the source material is gonna come from??

i hope its not the ".....in 1987 new Fiero GT's were converted and Formulas for 1988 to cut down on cost."

cuz we know the truth

i tell you what!!??
i "fixed" my broken exhaust pipe with sheet metal and hose clamps a few weeks ago.....and i just unbroke it.
boy oh boy, does it sound like a mean mug!! i gots the Auto trans and when i get it up to about 50 mph or so, 3rd gear, i drop it into 2nd let it set and then gun it.....browwwerr....hop the pedal browwer, browerrr, broweeeeeeerrrrrrr.....3rd gear, then let off and it pulses like them Italian beauties.....i am sold. wonder if i could take the rest of the exhaust off to the outlets?? muffler and all.

i think the pulses are coming from the opening and closing of the unattached gap on thrust and then the two pipes at the break, hop on each other till the extra pressure is exhausted....

As neat as it sounds you are putting a lot of stress on the pipes. I would keep an eye on them so you are not unpleasantly suprised driving down the road in the future.

On mine, I just ported the stock exhaust mainfolds, installed a hi flow convertor, and ran thru the stock muffer with C6 Corvette exhaust tips finishing it off. I like the sound. It is more agressive, but not excessively loud. You can see the tips on the picture I sent you. Post the picture on here if you want.

Additionally, pipes are tuned to do a bit of extraction. Also, depending on the manifold, exhaust pipes protect valves from cold shock when you shut down. OTOH, that all could be just an old wives tale

The above picture also shows the cars new stance using Rodneys 1in lowering front ball joints, and rear suspension lowered one inch using trimmed stock rear springs.

Tires are 265/50/15 Dunlop rears and 215/60/15 Dunlop fronts. The car steers much easier with the 215/60/15 fronts in place of the same diameter 245/50/15 originals.

I also installed 1 in. hubcentric spacers on the rear wheels to position them evenly with the fronts when you look down the side of the car. You can see this better in the front view of my car on the previous page.

As Dan mentioned the exhaust tips are from a Corvette C6 without the dual mode exhaust. They break up all the black below the bumper, and actually sound better than the originals. These tips are drilled on the inside and must have some kind of resonator effect.
The only downside is I have to clean them more often.

Julian,

Go back to page 80. You posted a compairson of Tom's decklid lettering position and mine (8011) which is the second set shown. My Mera lettering is positioned correctly since the car still has the original factory paint. The bottom of the letters are 3.25 inch from the edge of the decklid. From the beginning of the M to the point on the A is 9.25 inches with 15/16th between letter edges. I do not know if these letters were placed by hand originally or not. Since they are individual letters odds are each car may be slightly different.

My paint is original and in te sun you can definitely see where the leters were removed. I will try to get some pics tomorrow for you. I plan on making a template with the trunk edge and lock as a reference point.

It is interesting as to how the factory initially mounted the rear decklid letters. However, I actually like the way that Tom did it better from a purely visual aspect. That is what I did on the red t-top and may consider doing on the other cars once I decide to install the letters. John, get us the pictures from your vehicle when the sun is at the correct angle to show the original locations.

Tried to get the tailight lenses in there so you can get some perspective..

One these I tried to get the lock cylinder in teh pic so you can get perspective on placement...

Hope that helps!!!

My car has the same placement of the 2.8 and GTS emblems. John's 2.8 seems to be slightly higher on the right side if you look at the spacing. The GTS is slightly off level on my car.

If you look at the pictures of Nelson's white Mera with the decklid open on page 80, you will see the Mera letters on the decklid match the positioning of letters on my car.

John's MERA lettering appears to be spaced much closer together than I have seen on any other original Mera's. Maybe it depended on who was installing the emblems that day. Julian, it appears you have a choice of how you want them on your car, as they vary from vehicle to vehicle. The letter spacing on Tom's and my car are the same, but his letters are placed closer to the edge. John's letters seem to be the same distance from the edge as mine but are more closely spaced. Are you confused yet.......

Rick, I also thought the letters were too closely spaced for the font. I think a wider placement would look more asthetically pleasing. Could you throw a couple pics of yours up there for comparison?

Sure does...here they are for comparison...

Mine

Tom's

Rick's

I don't see that much difference between Rick's and Tom's but mine were definitely closer together. I like the farther spacing myself...looks right.

Hmmmmmm. I've never bothered to look. Time to get out the old flashlight. Maybe you have another early Mera rarity Dan.

I recognize the first picture as the bottom of the air cleaner canister, and the last picture as the opening inside the side vent itself. What angle was the second picture taken from, and what are we looking at????

whoops sorry....underneath the car is a spot where one can peer up into the back of the scoop area...
i had X, jacked up because of a in garage flat earlier in this year and noticed that air box.
i could always hear a sucking noise and now i know why.....forced air induction RAM AIR if you will!! now for a new design with modern air filtershumm....what can be done here??

not sure if this will help but i got the back drivers tire in for reference....just behind the wheel well cover
the black at the top of the photo is the coolant hose after the metal pipe.
the bottom white/red arrow points to the AirBox......

if you are refering to the foam at the opening of the door scoop, i think thats a gasket more than a filter.....

from down the hole it looks hallow all the way to the actual air filter in the black canister....not sure. i wanna take it apart but we got severe weather again a commin...i am running neck and neck with total Tornado sightings as Mike (Mera7) and he IS Tornado alley down in Oklahoma....his are way bigger and badder....

had an EF-1 about 22 miles away to the south....and again about 32 miles to the east. same storm, moving at 50 mph....strasight line winds clocked at 80 mph....they say today is shaping to be worse.

Thanks for all the help on the MERA emblems. Hey Rottin Johnny, the slightly visible letters on your red MERA are not that far off. It's an illusion. The letters are in the shiny part....the whitish fade is probably wax build up or soap.... when you measure it, it's close to 9.2 inches tip to tip....so you're pretty close. Anyways I put mine back on and they kick ass. Thanks to every one again!

On a seperate note.... I sent in some pics for the MERA photo contest today and that 300 dpi locked up my e-mail. I had to send them one at a time.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I hope we all make the rag and my hat off to who makes the cover..... it's just nice to hear we are going to see a MERA issue.

No offence to Rodney but I sure hope the issue hase more than what every MERA (Fiero) owner already knows..... 88 made in 1987, 159 made in 1988, years of clay molding, Ferrari law suit, new Fieros only, Capac MI, Bob Bracey, .......etc etc.

Great article Rodney, but I hope they get more info, like..... Did GM know anything about Corporate Concepts? How many dealers were involved? What did the Nardi steering wheels look like in the MERA? Has anyone seen a MERA with Racaro seats? What were the rare options? Why did you buy a MERA? Bob Bracey rest in peace, but are there any Corporate Concept employees out there that have information on the MERA project? Maybe even an article on Bob Bracey and all his busines ventures (like his snow mobile with a roll bar).......

Just my two cents.
