. . . seems a bit steep. Interesting eBay name--do you infer a Mera with an LS2 V-8? We should ask him what he's got. Looks like he may be a Porsche guy, too.

pictures

notice in the 1st pic, no hole for wire......Rodney Dickman told me, on the phone, that 1987 Meras did not have powered mirrors on the drivers side......I called him when i found out .....i was crying about not having any wires going through the dorr gormets....well found passenger wires put no dr. so pulled mirror for that pic #1. that was the day i turned around and started to believe my MERA pure.....thats even printed on a piece of paper i found with some other Mera stuff lost in my cars stereo instructions....anyway i was told that the mirrors loked right"when i bid on it back in april......plus sounds like you do not have the toggle switch....thats very important to the Mera thing....just some FYI for 'ya.later-

hey guys yes thats my ebay screen name. but i now am going with a ls4 instead of the ls2. i could probably swing the ls2 if i never launch it hard. anyways yes dan the base is different. these are correct vitaloni power mirrors with the correct mera part number on the mirror flag 30331 but the bases are different, slightly wider. other than that they are real deal power vitaloni mirrors with 30331 on flag. they are very hard to come by is the reason the price is out there. and the backs of these were black but someone has painted them silver/grey color i guess to match their car. yes dan i also have been told the 87's had a manual mirror on lh side and power on rh side. but also told 88's had both powers. i dont know though as my 87 had both powers, i think. ask nelson he bought my originals. anyhow happy bidding to all.

I used my dremel and a cone-shaped grinder to knock off two of the melted pins. This was enough to lift up on the white plastic piece and allow the indicater piece to slide off (the clear plastic "thingy" on the right edge of the pic).

I then sanded down the tip of the indicator and painted it with some red paint I had handy. I reassembled everything and put a small drop of crazy glue on the pins that I had ground down.

Tom,

BRAVO! I'm sure all of us who have autos have the same problem. I was wondering how to get in that area and highlight the letters. Thanks for the great info. Keep up the great work.

morning.
say Mike, i was talking about the ebay ones....do you have the switch for them ones?? seeing that you have the '88 version the switch is different than the 87's for there is a selector switch for the powered LH and RH sides.....

mine does not have the selector cuz i dont have the powered DR.....one of the annomlies that got me so frustrated when comparing to pics of others cars.....thats when all the questions started flying.....i never heard that fact about the 87 DR side mirror not being powered no one said that was a thing to look out for.....stumbled on to this on my own.....really, it is fun ....deciphering these cars (Fieros)...the Mera aspects are even more intreging (in my case) if i have a early production model for the "bug" "gremlin" factor.....i like the little things that make things different even from each other..... well yall i fittin to upgrade the ole Mera X.. sooo back with pics.

My 87 MERA has power mirrors on both sides as do both on my 88s. The mirror toggle switch is identical on all three cars.

Thanks for the compliments. Wow, the emblem actually does look good on the car! Hmmm, I'm actually contemplating putting the 87 emblem on my 88. Maybe...

Sofa King; Thanks. Actually, I'm not sure I understand what you mean, since the letters, I believe, are cutouts under the clear plastic. The only way to get to them is to remove that entire white piece, and that mean's grinding out all 12 of those tiny, melted plastic posts. In retrospect, I should have used a "clear" red paint. I haven't mounted the bezel yet, so I don't know how it will look with the lights on. But irrelevant for my Mera, since I don't drive it at night.

hey Tom? if you put a 87 emblem on a 88 you will not be OEM (did i use that right?). just kidding.....you have the most stock lookin MERA of the bunch....in my opinion.....you should keep it that way....
i like the silver for the fact they go with my rims.....as a side note; with a job...i am looking into getting some pentangle OEM?? Fiero GT rims and painting them GOLD.....like the BBS type spoaked rims on them automobile' de Italia. if/when this happens, the gold emblems will be reinstalled.... Grammar Shrammar.......lets drive..Later- D

Another indicator might be the awful plush carpet--could be just an '88 thing. I've seen it listed on the spec sheets and I have it in my '88--not pretty.

Went to the FCA Desert Region car show yesterday. Wanted to get some pics of the 308s--wheels, badges, etc. There were about half a dozen GTS and GTBs, but they were all pulling out as I arrived--oh, well, next year. There were more that just Ferraris there--Lambos, a de Tomaso Mangusto, and an absolutely gorgeous (is that a chic word?) Aston Martin Lagonda. Well, I guess that's all sort of off topic--sorry, got carried away.

Dick, I agree with you. I have the same "plush" carpet. When I removed my center console to install my guage wires, I noticed that they just glued it right on top of the original carpeting. Thus, its really thick against the console area, and the seats drag against it in this area. Would be nice to find out the name of the company that was sub-contracted out to do the interior (I believe yours is just like mine). Just something to add to the history of the car. Wonder if it would still be in business? Rodney says it was not done by Corporate Concepts, but rather by a local (I assume in Capac area) upholstery shop.

I hate the stuff--so dated--fortunately those great mats came with the car so my sneaks don't get hung up in the fuzz. I'd like to replace it with stock Fiero, but like you said, it adds to the history.

hey fellas??? got any pics of this "plush" carpet....mine looks Fiero stock....i hope its just an 88 thing.
Also do you guys have birdscreen over the "induction" holes behind the doors?

i think they are bondoed in place

and is this a textured black sticker on your cars???? its not painted....

thanks in advance..
Dan
p.s. hey Mike, only three of the 6 are worth listening to. 'cept now they're all chanting MIKEY,MIKEY,MIKEY.. for some reason......ohhhh I know why....that fat offer....you bet i'll advertise.....already started.. thinking about a winshield sticker Performance MotorSports Oklahoma....and MI license plate MERA LSX....thats soo cool....and no Mera # claim...thought some may take the X as roman #10...this way its an engine swap nod...by Performance MotorSports of Oklahoma..of course...Get 'ye sum....later-

Got those same grills. I used a small artist brush to repaint them flat black.

The bottom area on my car is painted black, no sticker.

Here's a pic of the "plush" carpeting. You can see where its thick against the console area and the driver's seat.

This is one of those cases where it looks better in the pic than in person. Its not that its "bad," per se, but just dated. But hey, its 21 years old, so its part of the history of the car.

I did a quick search of auto upholstery shops near Capac, MI. Most of them were not in business during the Fiero regime....except one:

Auburn Auto Trim and Sales
3589 Van Dyke Road
Almont, MI 48003

Web says that this place has been around since 1958. Looks like only about 8 miles away from Capac. I may contact them.

Well, Project Shift Bezel is completed. I went from this with the cig burn:

(Note how you can't see clearly what gear you're in.)

to this:

and here's what it looks like with the ash tray doors closed:

And surprisingly, the light still shows through the shift tab that I re-painted red. I had thought that it would be too opaque.

Low-cost resto project, I got the used 88 bezel for $20.00. The rest I had on hand, and it was just some time involved.

I think Dano is referring to this area. Mine are definitely smooth and painted.
