My dad and I lost our minds when we first saw her In Manitowoc (we bought her 2 days after we saw her) Out of respect for the original owner who did the detailing and paint job we haven't changed a thing on her. My first car, an '87 fiero se
Been raining quite a bit here. You can see a small Fiero “lake” of pooled up water in the back. Waiting for rain to stop so I can get the front end up in the air to install Rodney’s zero lash end links. Kit
In 1978 I was modifying my '72 Comet GT (Same as Maverick) for corner-carving...Had a friend take a pic of it coming around a 15 MPH turn at 25.
Recently found the pic- then googled the location...Still ranch land (Everywhere else in the area has been "Civilized") So Sunday I took neighbor's son out and cranked thru the turn (At 35 MPH) while he snapped a pic...(Probably could have gone faster but with him taking a pic safety first)

... and the Fiero still has less body roll.
Every time I see a Maverick Grabber or Comet GT in the Marketplace, I go "hmmmm..." Several friends had Comet GTs during HS. I always thought they were cool cars. One of the local dealers did a custom package called a "Stabber". Essentially wider slot mags, 60s, air shocks, and side pipes. (Remember, this was before cats.) That car was the shiznit.
And the new addition to the family right after Thanksgiving 2022… My 1986 GT car has 125k miles, and no factory a/c.
Bought it with the 2.8 liter Engine already out, and missing the 4 speed manual transmission. Bought as a project Interior is in GREAT shape
This is going to be my little sleeper that will spank my Hellcat Challenger when I’m done with it.
Looking for suggestions on the engine…. Corvette? Eldorado ETC Northstar?
Or go total Frankenstein and put a hopped up Civic SI or ?? That would require some extra mods that would be time consuming though.
I’m really leaning towards the GM V-8 conversion Possibly the supercharged 6-cylinder???
Suggestions on what is more readily available and easily adaptable.
So exited I found her!
I didn’t want to mess with my other 2 Fiero’s My silver 1988 2.5 only has 19k mikes … and the original tires 😮 And my other 1986 Black GT only has 26k miles Both all original little time capsules
They are all original, low miles , and I’m tge 2nd owner.
Wow, that must be a trip going from driving the Hellcat to the 98hp Fiero! I still love that '88 though! Is it a 5 speed? Those tires must be like slickrock at this point.
How much power are you calculating you need from your project car to be faster than the Hellcat? It is going to be tough, but a worked GM V8 could be up to the task.
I too had an '88 Coupe which I drove ~40k miles in stock form before dropping in a Quad4, which made the car infinitely more fun to rip around town. Also had an '86GT with a V8Archie installed engine. Very fast, but the extra weight made it feel less like a Fiero in the handling department.

working on some flares, they are cheap so these won't be the finished version, I want to make the cuts on the final pair as close to the trim as possible.
