Well this last Wednesday, I was talking to Rob about saving a poor 84 Notch from an unknown fate. It looked like it was being held captive by a "non Fiero" person. I was looking for a car to save, (besides my 86) I wanted a drive-able project...Well I found one locally. I saved a 1984 Corvette from certain death. It had been on Craigslist in a remote area of TN for almost 3 weeks...Price was not crazy and it had lots of stuff done to it already. It has a fair list of minor weekend fix type issues, but it is solid straight and has 82,000 original miles. Runs like a dream. I have never had, or even ridden in a Corvette before today. I still love my 86 beast and it is and always will be my primary project. But I couldn't pass up the chance to have a Corvette too. Anyway, pics are forthcoming. I have to get a chance to take some. I figure Rob will be pleased...lol

Jake/Aaron

PS
Transmission for Fiero, is going together on schedule. Spoke to builder Friday afternoon. Waiting for FieroX to get back to me on mounts, or I will need to copy a set. The computer should be here next week, and I will obtain the axles needed for the swap prior to coming up to deliver the transmission.

Oh on another note...Club wise...I have some magnetic paper for my printer. I made a sheet of Club Sticker magnets. I have to tinker a bit with contrast and resolution. because the cars came out real light. but all in all they look good. I changed it a bit to help with getting it to print better... here is the design, as I updated for magnets..

I have original design too.

Hi All,
I know I had talked about a new tail light project that I may be willing to do for peeps. I finally completed the prototype and wouldn't mind some feed back. Want these just right so If I do sell them People are happy..

Keep in mind I know the taillight cover is missing, I dont have an extra so make believe its there. and I know they are a little off center. The bolts and lights will be more symmetrical on future builds. this is Prototype 1....lol

Thanks,
Jake

Those look like Corvette taillights to me, but I'd keep people guessing as to what car it is they're actually looking at. Repeating "Fiero GT" on the rear of the car four times won't do that, but it may well set a world's record for the number of times a car's name has been called out on its rear end alone.

Accordingly, I'd ditch every one of those black "Fiero GT" emblems.

By the way, there are small, chromed emblems that simply read, "PONTIAC". Would you plaster four of those on the back end of your Fiero? (I didn't think so, and I now rest my case.)

I mean no offense here. However, your request for feedback reminds me of the saying, "Be careful of what you wish for --- for you may receive it."

I'm curious to see what your prototype will look like with its taillight cover on.

I know from years of marketing research experience that regardless of how creative they think they are, imagining that even something simple exists (when it doesn't) is very, very difficult for most people to accomplish, unless they at least have a picture of it. Maybe someone on this forum like 85SEnochie can photoshop something like that for you, if you don't have a taillight cover you can use for an actual photo of your taillights' set-up.

Hey all, I'm back home in Wisconsin. I wish I could say that I would be finishing my car up and driving it, but I just can't justify the investment to complete it. Most of my completion cash burned up at deans unfortunately. If there are get togethers I will still come out, or if anyone wants to check my sleeping beauty out let me know! She's a little dirty but still looks fantastic.

Thanks for compliment, BKCAMARO....... Project34...You gave me the type of input I was looking for, I'm not offended in anyway. Just a few notes...The Logo stickers are just a demo of a possible option...people can choose to be Fiero Free or limit how many times the rear of the car says it. The Prototype was made on a throwaway GT housing I got from a guy. so no reflectors or cover. My son has a 87 GT and is willing to let me use his cover, but I'm holding off of that. I will come up with a solution soon. Im still in R&D anyway. The prototype is just what it says a prototype...proof of concept. If/ when I ever start production there will be no imagining of the true look. I will have full set of pictures and a detailed list of the options. I am shooting for a updated Fiero LED rear end. Basically, Stock 2.0 . Reverse Light getting upgrade, but remaining Stock Looking...Pontiac getting LED upgrade too. The only changes to "look" are the actual Tail lights. This post was for input..(.thank you) and to introduce the concept (because I had said I was posting this pic weeks ago, but didn't get time to finish prototype until yesterday)..It is a project in evolution and i'm sure will evolve a bit more before any possible production happens.

Yours is an excellent idea, making those logo stickers a possible option. I assumed --- erroneously --- that you were making them standard on the taillights you're creating. Accordingly, I was concerned that standardly repeating "Fiero GT" four times on the rear of the car could be overkill.

Incidentally, my previous, unknowing misunderstanding of your intent with those logos is illustrative of another principle of product testing --- even in the concept phase: Make the concept brief (which you did), but clear. Otherwise, people may rate the concept unfavorably for an unwarranted reason. Howver, unlike myself --- many people will not volunteer spontaneously any input as to why they rated the concept unfavorably --- and then you won't even realize the fix for the rater's unfavorable rating could be easy (in this case, communicating the logo stickers are not standard, but representative of a potential option).

Thanks again for the input. LOL in reality, when I posted the pic, Other than the stickers there was no concept. It was input from another site that sharpened the concept for me. While work progresses on the GT set, I have begun early development of my notchie concept. In the same spirit of keeping any changes confined to the Stock housings so as to preserve as much of the "Fiero" look. I am currently kicking around a couple of ideas. One is a mini GT taillight setup...Basically, turning the Notchie housing into a thinner version of the Fastback. to include a scaled down PON TIAC in the center. Or second, and NOT in the spirit of keeping Fiero Look...keeping the Center Text or allowing custom text in the center and redesigned sequential signal lights and an "homage" to the Fiero's Muscle car Heritage in the form of GTO Style Stop/Tail lights circa 1967. Still thinking about haven't quiet decided which way to go on this.

UPDATE!!!...I will, indeed be in Wisconsin Saturday. I will be picking up my new transmission Friday and taking it to the Fiero Rehab Center so the Fiero Therapists can get my 86 rolling again. On a side note...My buddy just informed me he works with a guy who has a hidden junkyard that is being liquidated for junk prices. There are 70 cars and 5 Fiero's there. The guy said he would do a package deal if we/ I wanted them. Not much info on years or if they have been picked at all. I'd assume not, as it was a private place. He wants me to go check it out on Sat. These cars are being offered to me/ us first. Anyone interested? I know I could use a few spare parts. I think there is another Fiero in need of some parts as well. Well anyway, let me know. I'm planning on going to at least check it out.

UPDATE>>>UPDATE.... Looks like I'm gonna be pushing Hard this weekend...Need to be back to work Monday AM instead of Tuesday. Plus..the update part. 5 Fieros 200 a piece...one runs. Not sure of the title situation. But reportedly, the more sold the cheaper the cars get, whole cars only but I'm gonna see what I can negotiate. Unknown if they are Notch or GT or the years. Now the bad part that is gonna make me push until Sat Afternoon. I need to meet up with my buddy at 8AM Sat in Oshkosh for the trip to Yard location. So my schedule has shifted hours to the Left. I'l lbe leaving At mid night, driving to Minneapolis. Should be in there about 2 or 3 PM, then 3 to 4 hours to you Steve. I'll call when I get close, but looking like around 6 pm to 7 pm. Then eventually to Oshkosh. LOL reminds me of my Army days. I should be good to go, case of red bull I'll be fine...lol just lots of driving and no wasting time until i get to you Steve.

So here is my tenitive plan

Buy a fiero this spring that runs and drives and enjoy it while I rebuild my 283 and install it on the cradle I'm picking up.when all is ready I'd like to bring it to you guys to help me do the swap. I don't have the equipment/space to do myself. In return I'd like help anyone else by turning some wrenches. I'll pay if need be and all leftover parts from the swap will be given to anyone that helps or needs it that's part of our club.

Does this sound doable or am overstepping?

Actually this spring I'll be picking up a cradle with a full Archie kit and 4 speed tranny installed and never used. Comes with new brakes and suspension too.
All I have to do is rebuild my 283 and install on cradle.

Hello All,
Here is the lowdown on the Fieros. 5 Notchbacks , 3- 84's 4 Speed 1- 86 areo nose 5 SPD, and 1- 87 5 SPD...details below..

All Cars have been stored outside in Tall Grass. I saw evidence that all have had or have mice. Price per car is $275ea or 1000 for all. He will not part them out. Wants all cars gone by end of October.

84- 4 spd #1 White-SE trim. All glass intact, lenses I saw were intact. Runs. Drives. tan interior good shape, Seats OK typical wear, Cradle intact has some rust Trunk solid with surface rust. Engine hood broken completely at attachment point so It needs a new hood.

84- 4spd #2 SILVER SE All Glass Intact, Lenses and covers intact, Interior Grey complete good shape, Seats OK Normal wear, cradle and trunk condition unknown as car trunk locked. Cradle prolly ****ed.

84- 4spd #3 Cracked windshield, Silver SE Ripped up seats, Interior carpet ok, missing pieces and instruments Cradle fair

86- 5 SPD Silver SE, missing headlight door, Cradle rusted and crumbling trunk rusted, Believe Glass intact lenses mostly intact taillight cracked cover, Interior OK with some console pieces missing.

87- 5spd Burgundy no seats remainder interior ok, rear left corner damage, tail light missing left, complete Headlight motor system, cradle ok trunk ok, no title all others are titled. believe wind shield cracked.

Opinion.. at 275 a car I think they may be ok for body parts need and interior needs. Everything is a fairly common piece. Not one of these cars stood out all were basic. all cars had sunroofs, I did not open them or check for leaks, but glass ok in all. Other than interior and some body parts. Not sure if you could get your money out of these for the effort to excavate them. It is too bad too. Guy will not part them. If converting to a stick from auto, may be a way to snag the complete shift system. I have some pics Steve has seen them. I think the way these and for that matter all of this guys cars were stored stupidly. All cars there are wasting away, slowly sinking into the ground and prolly not worth the time or effort unless you have a need for specific stuff and then maybe only one car and certainly not all 5. parting them out would not get you what you invest. But thats just an opinion. If you are interested, let me know and I'll pass along the interest.

Awww, C'mon really? Your not going to show them the "custom" coolant tube and the Highly Professional Wiring? I know I'm hacking on my own car, but the crushed Coolant tube was the last straw for me and thinking they really did a good job on the install. The only person who gave a crap, apparently, was Steve ( my friend). Way he reported it, the dude who's house the install took place at got lazy real quick and threw my car unfinished off the property when My friend went to change the oil after he blew up the first generation of the motor. All of the "custom" work was done by someone who just didn't care and It shows. I cant wait to see what wonders await inside the tank. Plus the hole drilled in the top of the tank. Anyway, I had to vent some. I DO thank you Steve for being brave enough to help my "Custom" fitted ride. Here are the pictures...

"Custom Coolant pipe"

So, I have coolant tubes for Aarons car, I went to Gibbys this morning real quick before I have to take son to B day party and I grabed the turn signal lights for the project, the shift cable thingy for the ignition lock since this one was busted and I grabbed the brake pedal so I can keep moving forward. So, Don't need Timms anymore but thanks for offering it. I figured I Midas well just grab it since I was there anyway since I had to get that cable and had to loosen the pedal to get it out anyway.

Timm did Steve get you the harness to look over? Steve did you drop it off? What do we need to put the cruise control in it? before I start working on interior stuff if we need to add wires or what not now is the time to do so before I put the center frame in.

I will be working on the car all day tomorrow if anyone wants to come play and probably when I get home tonight. I have the rear clip preped and ready to make the cuts when the parts get here so Alan if you want to stop by and look it over for when you do your chop now is a good time to take a peak at were and how to make the cuts to do so.

WOW!! thats a lot, and I thought I was busy. Steve, ran into a few issues, but I think we are on track, but I'll defer that status update to him. I'll just say, he found many interesting install ideas...lol. Some of the "Custom" work done he found I am actually surprised the car functioned as long as it did. Thank you again for obtaining those tubes for me. What ever I owe you, I gave Steve $$ for incidentals when I was up, so feel free to hit him up. Did you ever get that brake line fixed for the vettte? That was some crazy stuff, the way it was broken. WOW, it just hit me I guess I should have bought one of those Junk cars, I guess 275 and we'd have had all of those parts..but knowing the luck I have had with my car the tubes would have been messed up, but any part i didnt need would have been fine....lol.

Aaron aka Bigjake34...I just heard from Jetsnvettes2000, He said we can have the coolant tube, AND a gas tank.

I think we need to change up the fuel method the previous swappers did. We need to add a pressure regulator that returns to
tank and install a 4 cyl fuel pump instead of the aftermarket frame mounted pump.

I want to change the exhaust also....which will require a different muffler or two. True duals?

I will need to get the flywheel machined to clear the HP torque convertor.

The coolant hosing WILL be run a different way also.

I think we need to do something different with the air cleaner also...maybe research 4.9 v8 air cleaners?

I wish I knew how to post pictures from my phone...I got some doozies!!!

Hey I'm cool with that all. Now you know why I had Fiero people fix it vs waiting forever for someone to fix it or me to have time enough. I understand the exhaust, to be honest I never understood why they ran it that way. That muffler just has a x pipe in it and some insulation but they all insist that way is the only way to run it. I do know that one of the outlets is choked off pretty bad at the "custom " tip. another gift from Jeff the guy who did the master fabrication. Fuel..whatever you think will be best, wondering why you want to go with a 4cyl pump vs the one I got? not to say it's not a good idea, just wondering why? Flexplate, got it...no problem there I totally want to be able to run the new converter and I really don't think machining will be too costly, just as long as its done symmetrically. The motor/ crank is externally balanced so thats why I stress the symmetry, it's not because of some Zen type BS...lol. Coolant system...lol...I'm not even going there just do what it is you are gonna do. Air cleaner...I will try some research. there are a lot out there that are Fuel Injected, but I'll see what I can find. If there was a carb hat low enough to fit my hood. Id say go with my original Idea, but got shot down because I was deployed...Inline filter on a fully functional side scoop. IDK I'll check around. Pretty much, I just want the car to be done right. While I never knew the extent of the laziness, I always suspected the car wasn't right. I'm just glad I didn't get hurt or stranded on the road because of some of the crap. The cradle bolts, really bothered me. IDK how they dropped the cradle and failed to use the correct bolts. I'm suspecting they cut the old ones off and replaced them with what you found. Anyway I could go on and ON, but I won't I thank you all for the assist. Rob Thanks again, that's 2 cases of beer and I'd guess Steve you are up to a pallet full of beer. I may and say may, if im lucky be able to come up after this week for a few days. I finish my assignment on Friday and am going full time where I'm at. I need and want some time off to reset. Travel Therapists don't get days off so I normally take a week to say hello to my wife and relax. Anyway this post is long enough...lol I'll talk to y'all later.
