Thats the plan. For the time being I'm going to get the damaged back end touched up to match the rest of the car but down the road I'm going to get a full blown paint job exactly how it is now.
I went and pulled the gas tank today on the suspicion of rust in the tank to find that the tank is as clean as a brand new dime but i also did it on suspicion of a bad fuel pump so I'll be replacing that. Its commin along. I'm trying to have it good to go by carlisle.
Bit of an update. Last weekend i was tinkering with the IMSA a little bit and ended up rigging the thing with something to give be a bit more throw on the slave cylinder. (i refuse to say what i did because its the biggest jurry rig ever) But low and behold it worked and works really well.
Well guys i have been putting a lot of thought into this for this car (no im still not selling it)
Finding an SD4 for the car at a good price has proven damn near impossible and even if i did find one its one of thoes engines that is a hard to maintain and hard to cope with motor for what you get out of it. I would love to restore the car entirely to its former glory but it looks like power-train wise thats not going to be happening anytime soon. Its not set in stone entirely yes as i still have some saving up to do But my plans for the IMSA have changed drastically.. I want something in it that i can count on not to give me any grief on the short pleasure drives i take the car out on and i want performance to match the cars aggressive stance. Its not set in stone yet but once i have the funds available (which shouldent take to long) I'm going to be jumping in line for a 3800SC swap from the Haus of Guru. If dave can pull it off (which he sounds pretty sure that he can) I'm going to be doping in the F40 6 speed in with it so the transmission can hold up Against the engines power.... as i said i would love to do another SD4 but I'm not shelling out $10K for a new one and i cant find a good used one anywhere. As for an update on the car well since I've started my career i havent played with it much. right now its at home in my garage up on stands with the gas tank taken out of it collecting dust. Edit for correction,
I just called dave and jumped in line. he said he has about a 9 month waiting period so i figure that should give me a good amount of time to save up more than i need for the swap.

Put the SD4 in the IMSA, put the duke into the Indy, sell both Indy's, and the SD4 will either pay for itself, or be fairly cheap. It also has the centerline wheels I believe that IMSA used to have?
fierobear also has one for sale, PM him for details.

If i can come up with $5000 within the next few months i might do that actuley all depends... i really want a 3800 though.
Put a little more work in it tonight(ever try filling up the rear tires 275-55/R15's at a gas station air pump.. takes for ever... but me and a buddy of mine are starting work on it.. its so close to being road worthy with the iron duke in it im aiming to have it on the road by next weekend.
Well I finally finished!! I really like your IMSA and can't wait to see more progress on it. My opinion on the engine swap depends on if you want it to drive or be a show car. If you want to drive it and have some performance put a 6 or 8 cyl in there. You can always build up the SD4 stuff on a spare cradle and have it to go back to original if you want to do that later on. What happened to the rest of the interior I thought I saw black or grey pieces in an earlier post. Are you going to replace them or paint them? It would be a shame for the interior to look like it was just thrown in there. As for the decals on the car, I would only put them on there if it was a show car. If it's a car you plan to drive a lot I would have them made and put them in storage with the SD4. Just my two cents. Good luck with your project and hope to follow your progress.
Well I finally took the time to read this thread... Here is what I've come up with after filtering through everything that has nothing to do with building a car. Added a decklid with spoiler and air-over scoop, installed a duke, and fixed the brakes.

Agreed. Don't start a build thread until halfway through.
Any updates or pics. Wouldn't mind seeing a few shots of it. hope all is well your way

All packed up.. amflyer came by to tow the IMSA today.. getting something big done.. few people know what is is but you'll see over the next few months
I have been away from this site for about a year. I come back and see that you are still an idiot and this car is still in the wrong hands.
Ah yes. More forum love.
Rick is going places, and doing things with his life. I forsee great things for this Fiero, and no matter how long it takes, it is still Rick's. Many of us take yearrrrrrrs, to finish. Many don't ever finish. I, for one, have faith in this young man. he is our youngest CDL driver.
Good luck pontiackid. You are handeling things quite well.
I can say I know what is going to be done with the car and I agree that Rick is taking his time with this project. It is my personal opinion that it is great that he shares this with everyone on the forum and if you don't have anything positive to say then don't post. No one is twisting your arm to open the thread and read it. Yes I transported this car for it's next improvement and I can tell you that after it is completed there are more improvements to follow. This young man has something special here and he is going about it the right way! Rick Don't let anyone influence what you want to do with this one Good Luck and keep going.

Pk take your time and do it right rushing only makes more problems, and things aren't done right. I remember when people were bagging on Rick for not having a job, well he got one, and a good one. I really hope he comes out swinging with the imsa build and i'm sure he will. Its too easy to be negative and the world has enough of that.
Some good honest words above. If someone wants to see a car purchased restored/modified in an hour, there are shows like 'Overhaulin' for that. Most people do not have the resources to pay a Chip Foose team or other shop to bang out our 4 wheeled dreams fast. Heck most Fiero folks gravitate to Fieros because they are so inexpensive, because we are broke or on a tight budget. For someone PK's age it can not be easy to fund a restoration and modification project. I am probably twice his age and I am still not done with my IMSA Fiero and I have had it over 8 years now.
Like others have said PK, take your time, do it right and you will be happy with the result.
And this is just a theory of mine, but over the last 25 years of being a car nut, and knowing many guys who have restored cars; The guys who have the money to pay to have the car completed in under a month or two usually get bored with the car in a year and end up selling it and getting something else. Virtually EVERY guy I have known who had a project that took them years and years to finish theirs have a much greater appreciation for the finished project AND for the stages of the process along the way. They also end up keeping the cars for many years longer because they end up growing a stronger attachment to the car.
I will keep reading this thread no matter how long it takes. Can't wait to see the progress.....but I will wait
