lol cliff. i figured this woulda been good for the technical section since it is all technical. maybe i overlooked or over thought something. i doo that a lot lol
Soo, all one has to do is swap in a 1996 or newer motor & ECM and you have an easy hook up.
BTW it's ScanGauge II. I have one in my 2000 Bonneville.
OBTW Tell us how well your MPGUINO MPG CALCULATOR is working in your Fiero.
yea, its good for the obd2 swaps out there. i was short handing it. what x gauges have you added?
i havent added that to the fiero. the SG2 will go in its place when i finish the car. the car has never ran right to add one and have it display correctly. that was on the LX9 3500 with the 1227730 obd1 ecm. that motor gave out and i have given up on it. the builder, my brother rushed through it, cut a lot of corners and has cost me a bit to deal with it. gave up on it and just crammed a SC3 up its... just a mock fit tho.
HID is not really new technology, it is just a cool novelty for automotive. Halogen Infrared Bulbs are worth looking at
Getting rid of dual beam headlamps and having separate, dedicated high and low beam headlights is a very important modernization. All high end cars have projector optics for at least the lows. Hella makes 60 and 90mm projectors that will flush mount or go into aftermarket pop-up
Depend on windscreen type, color and structure Two or three years ago I tested a few displays for DIY HUD on a few cars (lets say normal market displays, not factory one, grabbed from vette or any car), but WITHOUT any semi-metalized foil glued to glass, what recommended some manufacturers or sellers of aftermarket HUDs. Conclusion - with 6 or 7 cars, only one glass on one ford gave me nice, single, sharp HUD reflexion. Others (these begged for HUD, Murphys law always works...) was blury, double or triple, etc. So I threw idea and stuff away; last one, universal digi voltmeter with rebuild very bright mirrored display is somewhere at home, in this or that old-electro-idea-stuff-box
i brought this sunject up a while back and it was quickly shotdown because of how easily you can fake a fingerprint. someone said you can do it with a gummy bear. who knew the tasty lil effers could help screw you over? lol

Any piece of identification can be faked. Even DNA.
Supported Transmissions: The 'MasterShift' Manual Shifter currently supports 700R4, Turbo 400, Ford AOD, GM-4L60 and 4L60E, GM4L80, and other such transmissions (see requirements)
Requirements: Vehicle with a supported automatic transmission (listed above) or with a similar automatic transmission as unsupported custom installation. Currently supported are those listed above and other such transmissions with an externally mounted shift lever that is typically cable driven.
Our new Legacy GPS Speedometer does not require a transmission sensor to operate making installation very easy in vehicles which lack electronic sensor output or for individuals wanting the simplest speedometer hook up.
Features included
* Odometer and Resettable trip * 5 Htz update for fast needle response and accuracy * Display 0-60 Time and distance in feet. * Display 1/4 mile time and speed. * Show elevation * Peak Recall max speed during run * Current direction heading * Accurate GPS Clock * Current Speed in LCD * Hot start satellite acquisition allows GPS speedo to function within 2-3 seconds of power up
Easy hook up- requires only power, ground and lighting and GPS accurately displays speed. included 15' long antenna cord to route antenna to convenient location in corner of dash. Speedhut Life-time warranty on all GPS speedos.
They do have 120, 140 and 160 mph speedos at lower prices.

The OEM bimetallic thermal flasher is designed for a high load so it won't work anymore. An electronic/capacitive discharge flasher (EL12 from AutoZone) eliminates the load requirements (load resistors) but flashing will be a bit slow (~15 per minute). After a year, my modded EL12 melted so I looked around and had all the parts in the schematic below. I gutted the EL12 and stuck this little perfboard in it and ran a small ground wire out the top. Any P-Channel MOSFET should work fine. Just test the connectors on the car to make sure 12V is going to your source side. 20K pots give you a decent range. Centered is a little faster than normal, and I prefer a slightly faster off duty. The top is off time, and bottom is on time.
Yet another flasher.
Up to 16 different effects. Blinking, strobing, etc. The internal LED is only used for testing. A cheaper 5V reg. can be used, and the MOSFET just needs to be one that can handle your amps.
Each button press changes the pattern.
Optional: Connect 3-wire cable to pins 2,7,8 and use remote button w/LED.
Note: 12V (On with IGN!) is from the flasher input. Pin 2 on the FET is the other flasher pin. Ground is wired to the chassis.
i have saved this page in PDF format, saved all the pictures and copied all the text to a document file in the case this web page should disappear from existence. i like to be positively (+) charged

Well, I'm getting the parts together right now, but will soon have working electronic power steering using a Honda S2K rack and controller.
I just picked up a 4th Gen BCM today (without integrated remote unlock - but I grabbed a module for that as well). Another thing to add to my long list of improvements that will take forever to get started on.
On the tach changing colours wouldent it be easy to have a chip programmed to switch the output from one pin to another at a set value? I was also thinking of this idea for a moving spoiler. Hook it up to a chip that at x volts keeps it down and y volts powers up the relay to move it. Is there a chip out there like that? I already have a compass mirror out of a SRT4 in my car. just cant get the temp to work cause it works with the ecm in the dodge.
The Nook's audio output is poor by all standards - it hisses and has a very flat tone. It doesn't make for a good media center, although its almost infuriating how obsolete tablets make carputer tech from the last few years (Doesn't need to be vented, plug it directly into the fuse block, compact and cheap.)
another fun thing to add would be a gopro! my friend left his in my aveo and ive been taking advantage of it and using to see its quality and such. and wow its amazing. i think i am gonna try to buy it off of him.
Friendly bump. Still thinking of something not said already.
Thanks! And, is it dimming sideview mirrors? I just noticed these on my brothers '06 SRX he got last week. pretty awesome feature I know us Fiero'ers could definitely benefit from.

Parking assist sensors. This could save some of us from going over that parking stump. This was just a quick find for reference. A better setup can be found.
