rims are 18x8 front and 19x9.5 rear. i messed up on the front offset as i thought the 87 gt's wheels were 35mm so i ordered 38 mm as that was available. shouldn't be a problem as i am using bmwguru's 12" vette rotor 88 fiero brake kit so it will move the wheel out a couple milimeters (3 to 5 mm). i may have to use a 5mm spacer but should be ok. the rears are 30mm i think but i am using a billet hub and wheel centric adapter. i probably will get the correct rims and offsets in a year or two when i build up some more cash. i also dodn't want the wheels too far out, i want to keep a factory look, even though there is really nothing factory about this car. lol

just got my reman 88 calipers from rock auto (starting to put together the 12" vette rotor 88 caliper swap parts. brackets from bmwguru (dave) rotors are centric and just need to find someone to redrill the bolt patern. i may have to use a friends drill press as the local napa and norwood auto parts don't do that. i also had snapperhead (vince) cut some special hubcentric rings (tubes really, for the front application to help support the rotor and the wheel. (one piece does both). i also found 4 ls1 flexplate 11mm bolts for the rear brackets on ebay.
i am also goint to try to return all the calipers, as whoever rebuilds for ac delco (yes i thought ac delco would be the best ones to get because of the name) are horrible, no quality control that i saw. one of the front calipers pistons has about one third the contactsurface saved off, which over time might angle the pad. one of the rear caliper pistons looks like it was squeezed in a vica and the center area is all chewed up, plus there was fluid around the little blue rubber plug in the middle of that piston (might be a leak.) and some of the slider boots are daaged or were never replaced and have cracks in them. i guess ill exchange themfor a1 cardone calipers (all4) i'll post pics of the pistons tomorrow.
here is what i have so far.

i also have a set of brackets for the 88 12" vette rotor swap made by fierofan25. i was gonna try to make them work on my 87 but bought the set form dave so i never used them. if someone wants to buy them let me know. i paid 105.00 for all four (no bolts just the plates).
from fierofan25's thread

i guess i'll put them in the mall eventually.
al

my rims...you don't like my rims? how dare you! just kidding lol
i like them...same reason i made the tail light panel and bought the 355 nose and the mad arch wide body ect. Plus they were reasonable (very reasonable for chrome) and with the money i have blown through (don't tell my wife) i needed a break. i looked at a poop load of rims including 5 spokes (star) but i wanted something more complex for now and i wanted something to hide the 9" rotors (now i have 12" in the works that isn't an issue). who knows once i get it painted i might change my mind, i plan on eventually getting new rims with correct offsets but at about a grand each...can you say divorce. now if i can decide on a color ...that would be awsome!!!!
what ones do you like? a friend of mine just blacked out his new porsche...he loves it. i know black is the new chrome, but i am into chrome.

here are pics of the calipers, my main concern are the pistons on the rears one is new, the other looks all gouged up like it was in a vice and there was some fluid around the blue center thing....on the front calipers, one piston looks good and the other looks like someone filed off part of the contact surface so it is not flat.
good rear

bad rear

good front

bad front

any thoughts?

Tom,
i just ordered two more calipers, i didn't feel like dealing with the return process. plus they were really inexpensive and i can always scavenge parts from the other two. only now i also have four used cores taking up space in my garage since returning them would have cost more than the core return was...lol. i did take off the ebrake levers and springs off the old cores though.
if anyone wants the old calipers ( two front and two rears for an 88) they can have them. they are good for cores or rebuilding.
also sorry to hear you aren't getting a fiero any time soon. you were making great progress on the last one...you did some nice work.

I gotcha, I hate it when the core isn't worth it

Eh, I'm sorry too. Theres one in PA that I'd really love to get my hands on, but its just not in the cards right now. Something with a backseat/ more room is, its looking like an LT1/LS1 M6 Fbody is in my future so I'll still have something to have fun with. I'll definitely get another Fiero as soon as I can though, I love these cars to death- plus I'm young so I have time

Are we getting any closer to laying some paint down on this bad boy?!

depending on the old lady...please don't let her see this. shouldn't be too long now. i am working on the final punch list now. now more major additions left to do. gotta set the mirrors (using honda del sol power units and had to cut asnd reweld the mounts on the door frame) so i have to mark and cut the new openings on the doors. cut and drill the rear bumper side marker lights. sand out some nicks all over the roof and body. remove the interior as i am replacing the carpet and the seats and headliner as well as the firewall cover which will both be recovered in suede to match the lower door panels and visors that russ88ttop did for me. i have to meet with the painter around august 8th or so to go over what he needs and make an appointment (yea it's alot of little stuff). oh yea i have to block sand the hood scoop too but that is just a couple hours...here are some pics of the almost finished scoop.

just got a couple more things from Russ88ttop and had to post pics. i am covering the headliner and firewall cover with grey suede so he made me the lower door panel covers and visors to match. then he covered my arm rests and door pockets in grey vinyl. i can't decide if i want to use the pockets so here are a couple pics...any thoughts yay or nay? they are just sitting there, not mounted yet.

Looking good Al, all I can say is that the pockets definitely come in handy. Not too many places to put random things in a Fiero.

Paint will be done by me....I have done too much to let someone else take all the glory. I will live or die by my own work...lol. thecoatingstore.com has a color called amethyst blue metallic. It should look great with the grey interior and chrome rims. These guys split from house of color and from what I have read, make a good product. If the weather holds out....maybe paint this month or november.

I can't wait either...lol The body work is done but i am going over it to make sure everything is smooth. with that comes finding things that i ended up tweeking or changing completely. I am finally beyond that and in the home stretch....minor scratch and nick filling drilling needed holes and sanding.....lots and lots of sanding.

Good to hear that it wasn't too bad for you. My block seemed to get really lucky, no trees down/ power out/ flooding or anything really. The streets around us were mostly without power though. Less than 5 miles away an entire neighborhood was destroyed with 100+ homes burned to the ground.

Any updates on paint?

not too much to update as of yet. i have been sanding my butt off prepping for paint. the paint arrived today and i hope to get it painted by the end of may. the color has been decided and as i said i have it (bought a low voc kit from tcp global. its called neptune blue firemist base coat clear coat. a nice dark blue metallic which should make the chrome rims pop. i only wish the wheather and life would give me a break so i can finish. i hope i don't mess up the paint but i have faith (and a little experience with painting) my only real concern is getting the metallic right.
we shall see!

oh, and don't forget to seal coat the driveway when done!

i forgot to post my most recent purchase. while i am not any where ready for a motor swap, i picked this up a few weeks back. it is a 3800 na harness from an 85 manual. mine is an 87 5 speed so should be ok. for $199.00 including the computer, i couldn't let it go! looks to be well made and in good condition for a used set up.
here is a pic,
if anyone knows who made it let me know.

Does anyone know where I can get one of those blue (or black) round rubber plugs for 88 Fiero rear calipers as pictured in this post? Does anyone sell them individually? Thanks!

sorry no recent updates...i have gotten lazy and not been on for a while. here are some pics of the paint job.
first pic is just base coat not clear. the rest are cleared. i painted them in my driveway (never again). the wind was so still until i finished the last coat of clear then it blasted the passenger side with sand and dust. i had to sand it out and reclear.

A couple more old pics. I had painted the car blue but wasnt happy about how it turned out. Took it apart and started sanding it off. I may go with yellow. I really liked Charlies wide body.

Looking real nice. Just installed a Corvette C4 style Panel on my 87 GT. Just wondering who made the C5 tailight panel on your car. Gives the rear a totally different look but as on my install you will need to fit the Pilot Navigator back up lights in the the reflector cavities in the rear facia. It takes a bit of massaging but they will fit.

Thanks Bob...good to be back!!

Dennis,
I bought the tail light panel from kahines i believe. It jas the round ferrari / corvette light pockets. Then got a fiberglass rear roll pan (bumper delete type panel)for a pick up truck on ebay. That panel had the pockets for the c5 taillights. I just grafted them together.

I bought 4 of these. One yellow and one clear for each side. That gives the turn and back up lights. I deleted the reflector pockets on the rear bumper.
