As you can see in the video, we were able to wheelie roughly 2 feet in the air.

Nice build, and I agree, the exhaust set-up is very clever. Any more info on the additional engine mount near the alternator? Did you fabricate the poly mount portion or is that a modified mount? Looks like something I could use on my swap to secure things a bit more.

I made it from scratch. I used part of the expanded portion from the factory tip to go around the polly bushing. The bushing is the same as the ones used in the 88 rear suspension. The bottom portion is some square stock that was notched out. ------------------ Turbo 3800 E85 F23 5spd spec5 11.17@132.6[This message has been edited by Justinbart (edited 01-13-2013).]

Hey now that's an idea...
Do the whole build in one post so you can't let any of the 3800 trolls criticize your processes.
err, wait...

The owner said he didn't care what it looked like. I tried to make it as simple as possible. Some powder coat and fuel rails could easily be added down the road. I hear powder coating adds 6 months to the build though. ------------------ Turbo 3800 E85 F23 5spd spec5 11.17@132.6

Because I think there are only 2 or 3 members here from Pittsburgh, I should probably come out and say this is my Fiero (before people start calling Rotrex Fiero). I bought it in this thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum4/HTML/062731.htmlI must say, Justin and DH have done a terrific job so far and have always kept me up to date with progress pics. They even drove down to Pittsburgh to pick it up. That's good service! I pretty much gave them a pile of parts and said that I didn't care if things were fancy and painted unless it adds functionality (like preventing rust). We also added more parts during the build to make it that much better. They are only around 5 months ahead of schedule right now

Justin, I'm interested in hearing what you think of this setup compared to your 3800 Turbo setup with a manual. Like turbo spool, lag time, overall power, overall drive-ability...?
Either way, very nice!! Makes me want to build my own again...

It looks like I missed a few things I wanted to post. I'll have to take more picture this week. Mattwa, It's going to be a handful unless I can talk Tom into getting some drag radials for it. That video is the only time I've driven it so far. Only gave it about 30% throttle and it was wet. First impressions were it spooled up way faster than I thought it would and it sounds awesome. Hopefully we get a stretch of warm weather soon. I'm excited to put some miles on it. ------------------ Turbo 3800 E85 F23 5spd spec5 11.17@132.6

Curious about the cost of parts? Getting ready to do a 3800 Swap and am considering going the Turbo route (I know nothing about Turbo's)! PM me if you do not want to "advertise" costs. Thanks in advance.

My bad it is 10AN. The actual length according to ebay was 22" and I Think I have a 20" that came in their kit. The installer said mine was too short so I purchased this one but IIRC he took the 20" hose to a custom hose shop and they modded it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-...&hash=item3a7cf31c9c

Yeah, but the ID looks kinda small. I did purchase from a quality USA made shop. I think.... The package was never opened so I had NO idea what the ID was like. Bought it and sent to installer. Well, I'm pretty sure that is whats on my car.

Please excuse my youthful ignorance, but it kind of stumps me how the exhaust is routed on a turboed engine. Do you take the exhaust from both manifolds to spin the turbo? One side? It looks like the manifold with the flange on it still has the output for the Y- Pipe, so do just add the turbo on the manifold and let the exhaust pass through normally? I just don't get it. Please help me understand where the exhaust goes as well after its pushed through the turbine.

air moves, a heat shield won't prevent the air from getting hot and being sucked into the turbo. if it were some kind of duct to catch air from away from the turbo, maybe...

the front manifold has a crossover that joins to the rear manifold, which outputs to the turbo.

Yes, both manifolds (there is a crossover), after the turbine it just goes into a regular exhaust. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm[This message has been edited by Formula (edited 01-14-2013).]

I think that heat shield is a good idea. Not for the heat though. I bet that shield would keep a lot of road crap off the filter making cleanings less frequent.

The exhaust is setup very similar to the stock 3800 with the front bank dumping into the rear bank via the crossover pipe with a single exit from the rear manifold going to the turbo (with flow from both banks). The second section of tubing entering the exhaust post turbo is from the wastegate which is mounted on the crossover pipe.
