At a friends request to see it, I spent 2 weeks getting my 88 together again. It was awesome driving it again after over 4 years. I wish California wasn't against 3800's with 5-speeds!

Smog laws say that a 3800 with a manual trans is no bueno in sunny CA When my registration expired in 09 I didn't have the heart to disassemble the car, so I parked it. Unfortunately by the end of the year this car will be converted back to 100% stock!

Agreed- Looks like a really nice swap..even comes with a giant blue Scuba tank ! Why not sell the car or try to plate it in another state instead of going back to an anemic 1980's engine that came in Grandma's Pontiac 6000??? If the price is right, you can easily sell this car instead of chopping the value in half by going back to the 2.8.

Thats insane. No way could I live is such a controlling state.
What I dont get is, this is the home to all the old "So Cal" speed shops for example...where you can build whatever you want. Must be thats only pre catalytic converter cars? If so guess its time to buy older.

I'll be happy to plate your car here in Michigan.

I'll even let you come out and drive it once in awhile.

Have ridden in this car and it is very fast.
Excellent work and fitment of the swap.
3” exhaust gives this car a wicked sweet sound.

Don't you dare mess with that beautiful car. Tell those Socialist jerkoffs that run California to go take a hike. Establish an out of state mailing address, get the out of state license and register your car there. A government should not exist to tell you what to think, how to feel, what to believe in, what gun to own, how many bullets you can possess and what car to drive. That's a totalitarian people control system and not a government of liberty and freedom.

I knew when the car was built that it would eventually be de-modded.
Matt, the Formula T-top is doing ok. It should be finished by the end of the year too. If everything stays on track I will have built and completed 5 Fieros this year.

I don't get it the 3800 was a GM LEV V6 engine. The emmisions have to be cleaner out of an OBDII setup compaired to the OE ECM.
It must be some ignorant mandate because it wasn't an EPA/DOT tested system. Most of the time here, as long as the features that are stated on the emmision sticker function as they are supposed to and pre ODBII passes gas levels, they leave it alone.
Also here, if the car has been altered mechanically, it is SUPPOSED to be registered as a street rod with limited usage.

You answered your own question. It has little to do with preserving the environment. It's just an ignorant government mandate.

Thanks for the offers from everyone to "babysit" her. I'm that last person that wants to swap back to stock. But i would rather drive my car in stock form than just let her sit, like I have.

California is very specific on what is allowed (to the point of compete insanity). LS V-8s are a great example. Because they were never offered in a transverse configuration like the Fieros use, they are illegal. The sad part is California usually sets the standard for emissions regulations and laws..... so it's only a matter of time before other states follow and start adopting the same policies.

if you're going to return it back to stock, why not just make it look stock? ^_^

a 3.4 V6 with a cam and other internal work would do more for you, and will still look stock.
