So now I own an 88 GT, 40k miles, red, sunroof etc. interesting that this was first registered in 2008, per carfax, who seemed pretty firm the data was right. I purchase the car in Michigan. Does anyone have any ideas what that could be about? Also, the initials JW are painted in small letters in the engine compartment next to the strut mount. Any ideas? I am really keen to find out the history of this Fiero, and the previous owners weren't much help. Suggestions would be very welcome!

If I remember correctly, some workers would initial the cars they worked on, since the Fiero was dying off.

Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Hey neighbour! Welcome aboard! I think there's a 1988 registry guy on the forum - I tried a search but got nothing. He might be able to provide some info if you give him the VIN. Maybe someone will know how to contact him.

Thanks all. I did find the db guy - he was very helpful, but my car was new to his list.

My car's first registration as per carfax was in '95. Pretty sure that just means it's the first time anything was reported to Carfax.

Remember, because the 88 is the final year a lot of dealers thought they would "Cash In" on the future $500,000 value estimated by Dupont Registry. With that a dealer could set on the car and it was never "owned". When the dealer sells the car it becomes "owned". Sometimes this is why the car was never registered to Carfax. This may or may not be the case. Welcome to the family.

Carfax is bogus many times. Do Not trust their "reports."
Example: Some states do not report any data to Carfax etc.

Google: carfax lawsuit
