Hello Fiero friends, I was looking at another forum and they started a topic of listing dealership that are no longer around.
So I thought it would be great for our Fiero history to list Pontiac Dealerships and location that sold fieros from 84 to 88 " but are no longer around OR changed names owners". I will start:
Phil Tolken Pontiac, Milwaukee. WI -changed name Fred Jones Pontiac, Brookfield, WI -changed name Slocum Pontiac, Greenfield, WI -changed name E J Salentine Pontiac, Hales Corners, WI -closed down
David Arata from Arata Pontiac in Burlingame. I was VERY fortunate to work with the Arata family in the late 80's. I heard all of the horror stories of customers Fieros falling off of the lifts and the blown engines. He was a piece of Bay Area history.
quote
Mr. Arata was a Pontiac dealer for 52 years, starting Arata Pontiac/Equipment Co. with his brother, David, in 1936. The business started in South San Francisco, and eventually moved to Burlingame. Mr. Arata retired in 1986.
Also one of the last remaining signs on HWY 101 in Gilroy. I keep forgetting to take a picture of this so here is the Google Maps view:

My dad arranged pick-up of his car through AW Golden Pontiac in Reading, PA. It is now "AW Golden & Saab". My Silver 88GT was also purchased through there by its previous owner.
Wagner Pontiac, Iowa City, Iowa Closed in the 90's Keady Dawson, Davenport, Iowa (where I bought my Gold GT way back in 86) Dealership is still there but has changed hands and names.
My first Fiero (a white GT) came from Baranco Pontiac in Decatur GA, in '85. I think there are still Baranco dealerships around, but they've moved.
There was another Pontiac dealership not too much farther away. Used to be Plaza Pontiac, but they changed their name. Still sold Pontiacs, (and Deloreans) though. Long since gone.
Bob Morris Pontiac in North Ridgeville Oh. My first 88 notchie came from there. Torn down now. But you can still see where the buildings were and the tiles of the showroom floor is still there.
Wilkins Pontiac, St. Louis Park, MN. Got their dealership site condemned by re-development. New location in Golden Valley, MN is now a Luther Automotive Group Toyota dealership.
Peterson Pontiac, Bloomington, MN. Bought my '84 Fiero there. They re-located into a more modern facility and sold out to Walser Automotive. They ended up trading locations with their Toyota dealership and remain open as Buick / GMC dealership. They were slated to be closed by the government in 2008, but our Senator intervened.
Brookdale Pontiac, Brooklyn Center, MN. Another Luther Automotive Group dealership remains open as a Buick dealer which is connected beside the old Item Chevrolet dealership.
I have bought many Pontiacs from all three over the last 30+ years, including a 2009 G8 in May.
Renn Kirby Pontiac, Frederick MD. Now a Mitsubushi dealership IIRC. I remember drooling over all the new Fieros in the lot, even test-driving a black 87 coupe auto. Didn't buy the car, but I had fun smacking a Fiero fender on display in the showroom with a rubber hammer. Next thing you know a neighbor up the street bought a '87 coupe with the gold Pegasus on the hood.
Generally you can scan the web for Pontiac dealers and the fact is they all offered the Fiero if they were around in the 80's.
Also you can scan things like the Fiero Informer from FOCOA for the dealers that specialized in the special Fiero's
But here are some of mine.
Holland Pontiac Massillon Ohio the home of many Fiero sales and Convertible Fieros
Cal Wieble Median Ohio The dealer I bought mine out of 50 Fieros sitting on the lot.
Rumble Pontiac Toronto Canada where my car was shipped before it was sent back to the states for sale here in Ohio.
Taylor Pontiac Akron Ohio the dealer that did my Recall on the manifold and also the parts guy that saved me many things like parts books and ordered in special parts for me no one else thought they could get.
I could name 20 more area dealers here that all sold Pontiac Fiero's Many are just Buick dealers today. One is just a GMC dealer. Most did not go out of business they just made the change over.
There was a place in Richmond called Haley Pontiac/GMC Truck. My family bought a nice blue 95 Grand Prix from there and even then the place looked pretty old so I would gess they were slinging Fieros a few years before that! The dealership still exists today as Haley Buick/GMC Truck. Maybe someone there has worked there long enough to know?
Mecham Pontiac - Glendale Az - Gone (this one was the home of the Mecham Macho T/A's and built the Mecham scoops for Fieros) Bud Beck Pontiac - Scottsdale Az - Gone Sun Pontiac - Mesa Az - Gone
