Is this a trick question? Temperature of what exactly? Coolant... which thermostat? Air under the decklid...winter, summer, Texas, Alaska?

rear compartment heat , especially from the exhaust manifolds. Also wonder if the front or rear ( trunk ) manifold has a higher heat output.

It is greater than 0 and less than infinity. If you want to know what the temperature is exactly, for your car, in your situation, in your area, you're going to have to measure it yourself.

When car is moving more then a few MPH the engine bay temp is close to whatever the weather at that time.
At idle or very slow traffic then the bay will heat up and quickly.

I did enough testing years ago to stop believing Fiero bay is always hot myth.

Maybe ask intelligent questions instead?

You seem to create a bunch of threads, asking poorly worded questions, and not follow through with any intelligent discussion in them. Nobody knows what you are actually asking in this thread. The engine itself is designed from the factory to run in the 210-215F coolant temperature range. If your engine bay is too hot, then you likely have mechanical problems you need to fix. If it's too cold, you likely have mechanical problems you need to fix.

You realize that all three of these people are VERY intelligent and deserve some respect. These people are giving you free information, and maybe asking a silly question is irrelevant. Try finding questions that have a purpose, and not something that has already been asked.

I like his spunk. I think you guys are being a bit harsh. He was asking a question. Ogre answered it respectively. Don't assume everyone are on the same level when it comes to these cars. Ask away. We are here to support each other on these odd ball cars.

"Spunk" is one thing, but his putting just a *minimum* of real thought into it and asking a *coherent* question, is quite another.
When relatively gently and actually *humorously*, prodded by a couple of us, his eventual response is then an insult.
NOT a great way for a new member to start out is it?
Particularly when nobody insulted him......

Lets just chalk it up to another newbie that needed a quick lesson on how to be more specific with his interrogatories so that somebody can actually *answer* him appropriately.

We shall see where it goes from here I guess.

He's been around here for years under other names too. I can't decide if he's just a troll or perhaps just a newbie not just at Fieros but at internet forums as well.

Well, lets make that 2 out of 8. Thanks JASON and THEOQRE. A " troll"...using different user names ???? LOL, I 've had 4 Fieros since the late 80's, and have watched how the expertise of modifications to the engines and body have transformed...EXCELLENT !!. BUT..have noticed a higher degree of less intelligent or informed so called " Fiero Brothers". Oh well, guess the wanna bees will eventually learn from the true Fiero guys. Also noticed some of you guys see the wit and humor as to the question asked, the rest need to lighten up, this is a club that helps others........ GO CUBS and TRUMP !!!!

Taking THEOGRE advice....have installed a 1000* temp gauge in the engine bay along with testing with a laser temp indicator. Will test under different driving conditions and duration. Will keep a chart and let the few that are interested of the results. Also, I will try RANDYE idea, but will try a Pot Roast. Yum...yum.....LOL..Also..JASON, is " spunk" the same as " whimmzy" LOL

The Oger is about right.

The slow speeds the engine compartment is a little hotter than a normal one as there is little to no air flow. Moving at a decent speed the air flow helps cut it down but the exhaust manifolds and converter under the engine can lead to higher than normal temps. This is why your trunk gets hot and why they put a fan on the coil and alt.

I have heard with the PPG Turbo cars that with the cars moving the oil temps were in the low 200 range but in traffic they would climb to 300 degrees. That is why they had extra cooling and why turbochargers in a Fiero are difficult to cool.

I would like to see the results since I have a 85 V6. I just never worried about it. I have a pyrometer and should check it myself.

Also outside temps will change the results as in summer the engine compartments are a little warmer than in the winter.

Your first question was a little unclear but you have made yourself clear. Don't pay attention to the distractions as they are just bored.

HYPERV6..you got it right and put 8 in there place. Had some interesting PM's, emails and phone calls. The guys in our local Fiero club seem interested so we are going to line up some 4 cyl., V-6 stock , some with Turbos or Superchargers, and hopefully some V-8's, Corvette or Northstars, maby some with Turbos or Superchargers. One guy is a engineer/machinist and has some interesting insights, like he thinks the inner exhaust manifold on a V-6 ( towards the bulkhead) runs hotter then the exhaust manifold facing the trunk. We'll see what develops and will let the " select few" ( LOL) that are interested know what's happening.

Maybe I missed something but what is the concern with heat in the engine compartment? All engine compartments get hot but so what! Many guys are running turbos on 3.4L and 3800's. Some installs run headers. Yes the engine compartment gets hot but I have not heard of any ill effects.
I use to drive my turbo 3.4L to the shows in Carlisle and never experienced a problem or a burned ignition module. The engine compartment blower seems to handle things nicely. Now if you are sitting in traffic with a V8 swap then perhaps a cooling fan is a good idea.

LOL !!!!!...amazing replys as the Fiero Club hears about overheated coils, stock and MSD, wire meltings, cruise control cable problems, blower motors not always going on, and all the while guys are trying exhaust wraps, more ventilation, extra fans etc. Most racers KNOW the more outside air flow to the engine area. the better

Perhaps the OP is worried about how long he's got before his ice cream melts in the trunk.

You could have towed the Fiero and I'm sure it would have melted after 155 miles.

Perfect condition to pour on the popcorn (that was made over the inner exhaust manifold).

solotwo and no2pencil, I know what you mean. I have been in moderate city traffiic and noticed the heat waves rising from the side vents and the rear window was very hot. Even with high speed driving, then a stop, there is a lot of heat. I and several guys are working on a small project to detect the amount of heat with various engine set ups, ambient outside air temp, and the driving patterns. Now I just have to get guys to cooperate. I will put in a 500* temp gauge in the engine bay and l will keep a log for future postings. Thanks for your intelligent reply.

I discovered that this time of year is not the best time to cook eggs in the back of the Fiero. It's just a bit too cool.

However, now I've got another problem.
