Hi fellas,
For some time now I have been working on a 95 3.4L swap. I purchased my 86 Fiero two years ago. this one makes #5 I have owned And by far the best.
I started off with my swap by doing lots of research mostly from reading post here on PFF. You all have been great. I would like to say that my swap has gone great but it has not. I had some trouble with the engine. First off i purchased a 95 Camaro engine with 28k miles. I did the swap and the car ran great That is until I noticed that I had a grey/silver sheen in my oil. long story short my cam bearings got chewed up badly. How you ask? Well after I completed my engine I noticed low oil pressure than cam started knocking. So I made up my mind to drop the engine for the third time. As I was tearing things down I noticed what seemed to be sand or gravel on the intake just around the oil fill hole. After looking further it seemed to be gravel you would see on a parking lot. I took the valve cover off and noticed little pebbles on the head. After taking off the intake there were pebbles in the vallies next to the lifters. I was puzzled because I know when I put the engine together the engine was clean I made sure of that. Than I started thinking and remembered that the day after I got things running smooth I took the car to Walmart with the deck lid off. I think some jack A#$ put sand in my engine.

So now I will share with you my newly built engine and the progress so far.
The engine was taken to a local machine shop "jimmies motor machine". Jimmie bored the engine .020 over, he installed fordged pistons reworked the crank rod and main .010 under. The cam was perfect in spec even after the sand it had no deep scratches not even light scratches. It needed nothing however we used a new cam just to be safe

While the engine was being built I took the time to do work on the cradle. I sodablast some parts and after 12 cans of oven cleaner and a few tanks of gas in the pressure washer the cradle was clean as a whistle.

After paint.

I also painted the upper and valve covers with Chrysler red engine paint from autozone and a new fiero sticker from TFS

MY old 2.8 and heads

The new engine, it was wrapped in plastic and tied down. No I did not roll it home like that.

ready to pull her out of the Buick

on the stand

I heard some bad things about fram filters. I did not have a fram filter on the engine when I took it to Jimmies. however he warned me that if I use a fram filter he would void my warrenty.

on the stand again.

MORE PICS TO COME AS I MOVE FUTHER ALONG.

Lookin' good. It will be fun to drive when its all back together.
Though Jimmie's labor charge looked a bit steep to me.

Wow, that engine looks so clean you could eat off of it!

I would NEVER take my car to any walmart or lube place. They always seem to mess up, and some have been caught recycling your used oil and still charging

Did you port your manifolds? Are they stock, or aftermarket headers?

Oh, and what kind of trans set up are you using?

Stock headers, I plan on wrapping them. And after the wife calms down over $$$ I plan on installing aftermarket headers.

I have the TH125. I am debating on swapping in a 4 or 5 speed. however that will push the finish date to this fall and I really want her ready for the driving season.

no porting.

Or consider installing a 4T60 and not go back with the TH125.

Looking good. If you had it all out why not try to port some things yourself? Mainly clean up the intake manifold some and port the exhaust manifolds. Dyno #'s have shown just porting the stock exhaust manifolds is "almost" as good as a set of headers. I know FPS has a new larger crossover pipe as well for not much $. Keep the pics coming!

You said they installed forged pistons, they did not get forged pistons for that price, just FYI.

They are not on the invoice I bought them from summit and asked him to use them in the build. I also had some performance rods that we did not use.

Looks good and that's the swap I have planned for whenever my 135k 2.8 decides to crap out on me. Our cars are almost identical too, though your paint is in much better shape than mine.
