I kept a close eye on the auction at Barrett-Jackson. I also noticed that one of the Facebook people is the current leading bidder. Hopefully he gets this car.

I find this really cool. He took the car to have it authenticated by Huffaker Engineering
Thanks for sharing this. Our Pace Car with the SD4 was allegedly built by Huffaker but whomever answered the phone at Huffaker when Matt called said they would have to go and search the paper files to make the determination. Now it looks like there is another way (apparently this authentication is a block stamp from what I read...) Will be checking that out for sure.
Sorry for this rant....so the moron wins the car at auction in 2009 for 25 grand and thinks it has increased in value to OVER 25 grand? He probably put a 50,000 reserve. That car is worth 20,000 TOPS.
I would have rather bought Dave Deerson's car from here. His car was rebuilt from the ground up and was basically a brand new car:

I would say the bidders think it is worth more than 25K at this point.
No idea if the sellers price will exceed the sellers, but the market is clearly stating that the car is worth more than 25K. Doesn't matter much what the seller paid for it. Or that it need about 30K in work (paying someone else to do it) to put it back on the track.
The car is a "history" car and is worth exactly what the seller feels it is worth. You can recreate and make your own rendition of anything.... But there is only 1 original and in this case it is a car with a real life history. Posers can step aside.

I can't really agree with that. I mean it's Fiero history...not like Dale Earnhardt or Mario Andretti history The idiot who owns that car could have easily done a no reserve and gotten at least the 37,000 for it and made a 12,000 profit. But instead, he wants to be greedy and set a sky-high reserve? Hope the next round the bidding stops at 15,000.

I agree with you. Except maybe that to me its not the seller who decides what it is worth, but the buyer.. or potential buyer. Though in a way the owner can hold it as long as they like too.

You may recall that I own a prototype and like this IMSA car, is 1 of 1. Try to find another. You won't. If and when I am ready to sell, my price will be my price and no less unless someone has a "book" value on 1 of 1 cars. Now, at this point, I would listen to offers but unless they are very green, I am not interested.
I had high interest in this IMSA car for my collection and was in the game until $25,000.00. Not that it certainly wasn't worth more, for me it was a matter of timing and space. My shop currently filled to capacity, so much so that I have 2 vehicles in storage that I am paying rent on. It is also because of all those vehicles that funds only allowed me to go to 25k at this time.
Would I have gone more? Absolutely! Would I have gone to 40k? Hmmmm..... Probably not but not because the car is not worth it but because it has little or no use other than static display or an occasional nostalgia race event. I would certainly do a nostalgia event as I am only about 2-1/2 hours from Watkins Glen and that car needs to see track time, but the static display thing only collects dust and I already have that with my prototype.
I wouldnt mind having it or a replica to race in the Vintage Racing Series. It dont have to be authentic, just be an accurate representation with documentation. It would be worth $10-15 K for me tops.
FieroChic: Were you able to confirm who built your SD4?
I heard my SD4 may have been built for Michael Waltrip who would have used it in the Goodys Dash NASCAR series but was unable to get any proof. I do know it was built North Carolina, but that's as far as I got.
Hey Ed! Not yet...the engine is coming back out of the car to be "gone through" as we put it back in temporarily to roll it up and back to Carlisle. I'm hoping very soon as I'm curious!!
