The 25th Annual Run For The Hills is planned to take place on September 25 thru 27th, 2020. By requests, we have moved the event from the traditional 3rd weekend to the 4th weekend of September.
The event may be rescheduled to a later date if conditions warrant but in the meantime, all usual planning for restaurants and hotels is moving forward.
The event will begin in Dawsonville, Ga. We will travel through such well-known roads as Hwy 60, Suches road, Cherohala Skyway, NC Hwy 28, Fontana Road, Tail of The Dragon, and the Foothills Parkway and Little River Gorge Road to arrive in Gatlinburg, Tn for some rest and good food before returning home. Some may want to visit nearby Pigeon Forge and Dollywood if your schedule will permit. The Cherokee Reservation and Casino is also a short drive south of Gatlinburg. If you feel that you cannot make the September event and still would like to get a little taste of what it's going to be, you're welcome to join us on June 20 as we do a trial run. We will depart the McDonalds in Dawsonville at 9AM.

What time are you leaving the hotel on Saturday morning to start the drive and see you have the route? Might have to join in don't know if we would make it all the way to GA Friday night but can get very close.
Are there multiple groups going from different states? My son and I are trying to attend and would be coming from Corbin, Kentucky (right off I-75). I don't mind to meet up around the Dragon area but would love it anyone is coming through from the north to cruise with them.
NTJoe, hopefully you will be joining us from the beginning. The Dragon will be in the final 3/4 of the event.
If you get no one to meet up with, come on down I-75 to Sweetwater TN and take Hwy 68 South into Copperhill, TN. Downtown at the state line, continue through and it becomes Georgia 60. You can follow that all the way through Dahlonega, Ga. and you're just 14 miles from the Dawsonville Hotel.
Hwy 68 and 60 are in our itinerary, so you'll get a little preview.

I'd love to make this ride. I just got back into Fieros a couple weeks ago, and I have no idea if I can get the car to run properly and safely by then.
In the event I can't, would it be OK if I were to tag along on either a motorcycle or in one of my other cars?
We welcome all participants. I really wouldn't suggest a motorcycle, though, running among the cars. If you're on a sportbike, we would probably be too slow for you. If you're on a road bike, depending upon the size, you may not be able to keep up with us on the curves. We get pretty spirited in the mountainous curves.
We have had all manners of vehicles run with. All automobiles, but no trucks. Usually, the group separates into 3 groups, according to the ability of they and their vehicles. We have occasionally referred to the groups as Maniacs, Aggressive, and Tourist.
The event is a rain or shine event. On Saturday, the day of the actual run, we depart at 9 and don't arrive at our other hotel until around 5.
I just received an update on hotel rooms. Only 2 rooms have been taken at our Gatlinburg hotel and I would assume that is the situation at our Dawsonville hotel. I personally know that there are more than that who are attending. Don't wait until the last minute.
I don't have a pure sport bike. My Versys (sport touring) and Triumph Thunderbird handle pretty well, and have quite a lot of time on the Dragon. I also Autocross my Mustang GT and Focus ST, so I like to think I'm equally capable on 4 wheels or two.
I'm hoping I'll have the Fiero going, because it's more fun to participate, but if not, at least I can be part of the fellowship and see some Fieros...
Friday, Sept. 4 is the last day to order your event T-shirts. The T-shirt orders help us to produce this event. We can't continue if we're only selling a dozen T-shirts.
Restaurants and Hotels are telling me that they're still open for business, so it looks like the RFTH 25 will take place as scheduled. We're not canceling.
Just placed an order for a shirt. Also got a membership-though the distance means I might never make a meeting, at least it goes to help keep the club and these events going.
I have checked with the host hotels in Dawsonville and Gatlinburg. Both tell me there have been only 5 rooms at either hotel reserved under the club's discounted rates.
A reminder that this Friday, September 4 is the cutoff date for the discount rates.

Tshirts are sold only through advance sales on our website. Because of the small profit margin, we don't print in advance. Any shirts ordered will be delivered at the event or if they must be mailed to someone who had to cancel attendance or just wanted a shirt, postage is added to the $25 cost.
I can still get tshirts if you want to place your order. Due to the lag time between when someone places their order and I get the notification from PayPal, I like to allow a good cushion for the printer. Sometimes they have other large orders ahead and can't interrupt to do the few shirts that we purchase. I normally put a 2-week cutoff prior to the event, and I forgot that we had moved the event out an extra week this year.
The Dawsonville hotel still has rooms in our block and they will be available until Sept. 7. After that date, they must release any remaining rooms due to the fall festivals starting in the area.
Nelson, are you staying at Dawsonville on Friday or are you driving in Saturday morning?
I will be driving in sometime Saturday. With a torn ligament in my shift hand, I do not plan to participate in "spirited" Tail of the Dragon driving because it hurts too much.
Is anyone aware if there will be anyone attending with an engine swapped Fiero? I'm planning on one this winter and was hoping to see some swaps and get info in person...

If I manage to get there for Saturday I will bring a Mera with an engine swap. It will be either a turbo 3.4 or a 3800 SC Series III engine.

OK, everyone, this is supposed to be a nice weekend, though Sunday might be a bit chilly in the Atlanta arrea. It's the last opportunity to get that car fine-tuned and safety checked for next weekend. Start getting things into the car like your tool kit, fire extinguisher, spare parts and fluids. Throw in a roll or two of TP for the roadside restrooms. Maybe a mask or two and some hand sanitizer for when you handle that gas pump nozzle. You might think Covid-19 is no big deal, but you never know when you might contract Ebola from something you touch. Toss in a folding chair for sitting around and socializing Friday night.
Right now, the extended forecast is looking like a good weekend. The Gatlinburg conditions are 8-10% chance of rain with highs about 80* and lows in the mid 50's. Dawsonville, our starting point is forecast for less than 10% chance of showers Friday morning with temps ranging from about 77* to a low around 58*.
Those coming from the more southern points might want to throw in a light jacket or sweater while those from further north might elect to just wear their fishnet shirts.
Is everyone staying in Dawsonville intending to meet up for dinner Friday night? I'm staying in a different hotel, but would enjoy meeting up with everyone Friday evening to hang out, eat, or whatever.
For everyone arriving on Friday, don't let the weather dampen your enthusiasm. The current forecast is for about an 80% chance of rain for Friday only. Saturday forecast, the day of the actual event, is 81* and sunny.
I'm in Seveirville right now, and it's a little damp, but it shows to be clearing up Friday evening.
Looking forward to the run!
Yes, the weather system is passing through North Georgia and on up your way. Out of here by mid-day Friday. Just be sure to get down to Dawsonville by tomorrow evening. Unless you plan to do a little practicing, US 441 South toward Atlanta (take the bypass around downtown Gatlinburg) becomes Ga. 365 to Atlanta/Gainesville, then I-985 just before Gainesville. Take Ga. 53 at exit 17 for Oakwood and Dawsonville.
If you do follow 441 down, when you get into Georgia, watch your speed through Dillard, Mountain City, Clayton and Talullah Falls. Georgia Law allows you 10 miles over the posted speed limit before a speeding citation can be issued by a police officer who is sitting stationary. He must also be clearly visible to you for a minimum of 500 feet and in a marked vehicle.
