Car and Driver in March of 1985 tested 2 street SD4 Fiero's and Bob Earl's SD4 race car. Both street cars were 2.7L TBI SD4's with 230HP engine dyno'd engines. The 1/4 mile times were 14.6@96mph 0-60 times were 6.2 seconds. Bob Earl's Race car was 2.7L port injection rated at 285hp. 0-60 is 4.0 and 1/4 mile was 12.2@112. (Remember The race car only weigh's 2100lbs)
High Performance Pontiac Magazine took a 1982 Firebird and dropped in a 2.7L SD4 rated at 272HP using a 4-bbl carb and it ran a 13.2@100mph in the 1/4 mile.
Hot Rod magazine made a Fiero with an SD4 topped with a 16-valve head. I think the magazine was August or October 1985. Not sure of the HP rating but it was over 200.
Just found the article, It's Hot Rod Magazine October 1987. The SD4 was 3.0L 16-valved head dyno'd at 272hp. 0-60 was 5.3 seconds and 1/4 mile was 13.2@102
Vanderley Engineer is rumored to have built a 3.0L SD4 run on alcohol/methane fuel and maxed it out at 535hp. |

I remember hearing about the 535hp car, and here's what I posted previously on that.
