Update: Water pump is in and no leaks! 😀
This job was a pain but at least I learned a lot. When/if I have to do this same job again on my 86 GT, I got it down.
One big word of advice I have that nobody mentioned is…., it helps to test fit (without any sealer or the gasket) how it goes on the engine. It’s tight quarters down there and you don’t want to bump into stuff, disturb the gasket, etc.. while you got sealant all over the water pump and gasket l. Also, once you have it in position on the block, you want to avoid having to re-position it.
Lastly, I ran the engine while the back end was up in the air and checked for leaks before finishing the job. Kit

Thanks Patrick. 😌
Now on to an even more difficult project: making 1990 Buick Regal rear struts work in the back of a Reatta. Kit

Some great tips here and I believe that they covered it all. The only thing I can add when you work on the water pump side is to make sure that you tape plastic ( garbage bags) over the fiberglass liner material in the engine compartment where you work. If you don't be prepared to suffer some serious itching afterwards.

Man, I wish I had read this thread before I ordered that same Gates water pump that claimed to have the cast iron impeller.

Thanks for the Bosch part number. I just ordered on Ebay, hope it arrives by Saturday!
