I ask this question every now and then. Just wondering what people would like to see added to PFF. I do a lot of work behind the scenes, making sure PFF keeps running smooth for everyone so I'm really talking about things you would like to see that would improve user experience.
For instance, one thing I would like to add is an option to change the width of the page. I have a 2K display myself and having PFF fill the entire width of my screen makes it difficult to read posts. I'm guessing that's even worse for people using 4K screen. Also, I am thinking of implementing a post "like" feature, similar to the "like" options on social media.
Looking at the tech section, I just realized that it may be beneficial to have a marker that states "Problem solved"....You ask a question, go thru a bunch of posts suggesting different possible solutions, and then you come back and post stating "I found the problem & solved it!"
The obvious problem with this situation is, you have to read the whole post to find out "I just turned it upside-down, like Mr.Fierotechy suggested, and it solved the problem completely"
Would be nice to have a green star or such and the end result highlighted at the end of the post...
I agree. On some forums, I see the option for the TS to mark one on the replies as the "Solution". This post then gets stickied immediately below the TS's original post. I really like that so that's a definite candidate for implementation.
Is there a way to make a page showing posts with activity in the last 7 days or 30 days for all forums ?
Currently we can look at each topic, to see the latest posts, then check the other topics. I'd like to see an overview of just active posts in all topics at the same time.
Not sure it it's possible, just a crazy idea. We can do this manually, might be neat to have an option that does this automatically.
EDIT :
I made some shortcut links on my computer, that kind of does what I was asking for.
Definitely would love a notification option for others posts, and perhaps a way to have the page auto refresh/update when new posts come through without needing to refresh the page, especially on mobile. Another thing would be to be able to select text on mobile, right now I cannot select text for copying, etc. I need to switch to desktop view to do that, which then is impossible to read on my phone.
I'd be interested in seeing a couple of steps taken in the encoding of the forum to make the posting experience a little easier.
1) Instead of needing to manually type in [youtube]...[/youtube]every time a video is linked to/embedded in a post, it would be much more efficient for the poster to be able to simply click on a command box as we currently are able to do for the following...
2) I find that often when I click on the command box to institute Size or Color etc, that the box that opens to set the parameters is located way up at the top of the screen, which then necessitates the need to scroll the page down to access it.
CLICK FOR FULL SIZE
Worse than that, often this box is located up beyond the top of the screen... so that there's nothing even to indicate that it's been opened.
3) I'm no coder, I know nothing about it... but there's got to be a way around this issue of not being able to upload an image unless the member has logged in! I don't know how many times I've typed out a post, and then wished to add an image... only to discover that it can't be done as I haven't logged in. This then requires the post to be copied to the clipboard, backing out of the thread, going through the log in procedure, accessing the thread again, pasting the copied post from the clipboard, and then uploading the image. It's a royal pain in the azz. The simplest solution might be for the software to prevent a forum member from even beginning to start typing out a post until they're logged in.
I access PFF 100% of the time on a Windows PC, in case that might help clarify what I experience here while using the forum.

Definitely a "Like" button. There are quite a few posts I like or think are super helpful (even though I no longer own a Fiero ). I don't need to create a new post just to say I like something.
Improve user experience? Well actually, those pop-up ads inserted into the threads are extremely annoying. I know your intention is to “add” things that helps us navigate the forum betterbut it would be great if those ads were “removed”. This would certainly “add” joy and happiness to my user experience. 😀 Kit
We need to come up with a way to bring technical information out of facebook/social media which is not archivable, not web searchable and locked behind a membership (which requires your personal data to be available to the highest bidder) and back into forums where information is accessible to all and searchable!
Social media has killed how information on the internet used to work and made things very difficult. Like finding parts; I don't have social media and it's like pulling teeth to find the most basic of parts now. I know it may be impossible I'm just venting
PIP is great and has always worked it requires installation and setting up (which most people nowadays will not understand or have patience for) nor does it work for mobile which I assume most people use more frequently. If there was a way to attach pictures and not have the links break a few years later would be beneficial and understandably not easy to implement.

Let me bring you up to speed. PIP hasn't been required/needed here for at least two years! When you posted, did you notice the Upload Media tab in the lower left corner? Another way to post an image here that you see elsewhere online (and/or from your own device) is to simply use your OS's Copy function and Paste it into your post... as long as you're logged in to PFF first.

There is.... but I suspect you haven't seen the following...

The hosting company where the (image) server was hosted, was sold to another party. According to isthiswhereiputausername, the new guys are a bunch of morons. During migration, they "acidentally" deleted everything on the server (I'm guessing this was a shared server and they simply repurposed it). So far, they have been less than willing to cooperate restoring from a backup.
I have emailed isthiswhereiputausername and asked him if I could help putting these guys under pressure. I'm pretty sure they can be held liable for losing all that data.
Other than that, I have a partial backup myself which I already restored. I was actually meaning to backup the rest of the images, but never got around to it since, well, life got in the way. I also didn't give it a very high priority because my own experience with hosting companies is that they simply don't lose your data. I never expected to encounter one who does and is even unwilling to cooperate after they did.
So will we ever see those images again? I really don't know. It sucks big time because I've always stressed how important it was to upload the images to PFF's image server so they would never get lost. And yet, here we are.
So how many images are we talking about? I'm not entirely sure, but between 40,000 - 100,000. I will try to write a script that will go through all threads on the forum and mark any missing image. That should give me a better idea.
It's been almost a year now, and unfortunately there's still been no resolution to these tens of thousands of missing images.

Sound like a "tv"/tablet/phone problem force you to open whatever full screen... Until you figure out a fix, try switch aspect ratio to 4x9 thru the "tv" remote.
Or see if the "browser" will set Zoom for text or whole page. Example: PC FF can Zoom everything or just text. (View/zoom/zoom text only) I have 133% Text on HP 2311 wide screen monitor because 1920x1080 res makes text way small then Dell 1901FP 1280x1024 right next to it.
To fix... Put a "button" somewhere to switch to modified replay/edit "box" that already allow set width & height.

Only you & Worse like Scammers & Farce Barf Fanboys what this. Fact:Many PFF members had that @ first then had to removed it because idiots see state or even city & claim what to meet up etc. Far worse many think you help online then drive there to get more help etc often w/ little or no warning & don't care if you have county/city/HOA problems working outside on cars.
Related Is why Many have Removed Email option from replies because Google and everyone else on the planet see your email on Print Version of even page for Years. Only recently seems Cliff finally fix that problem. Even when fixed there are many caches of print version w/ email shown.
Broken images from dead old PFF image servers... I & likely others still active have some of lost images but not spending days to fix "Red X" posts. I'll only fix some pages as looking up old data. Even then a lot are archive pages can't edit.
But Most dead images are Because image links from 3rd parties that are dead Years age, the pic'e are "there" but links to then are Dead, or Photobucket etc blocked all embedded images unless owner pays.
I'd still like to be able to block certain users' postings so that I never have to interact with them, such as Farcebook allows. Perhaps this could be applied only to certain (*cough*) sections.
"Read" receipts for PMs?
Maybe an "online" flag next to a user's name? (With "opt in" by each individual user.)
None of these are critical to my enjoyment, except for maybe the first.
Oh, I don't know if there is a way to access them or not, but I am not able to see PM's that I sent, I only have an inbox, not a sent PM's place, unless it's there and I haven't found it yet
And, once again, don't know if this exists or not, not of like to be able to upload images to PM's, I know you can link an internet image, but I'd like to upload images like I can in regular forum posts.

So you're saying when you click on Inbox under Private Messages at the bottom of the page you don't then see this?

Just copy the image URL (along with the IMG tags) from a forum post and paste it in your PM. If the image doesn't currently exist in a post, upload it to a "temporary" post, save the image URL, and then delete the post. This works, but yeah, being able to upload an image directly to a PM would come in handy.

Admittedly I haven't checked in a computer, but this is what I see in my phone's default view:
And this is what I see in "desktop site" on my phone browser, supposed to show the full computer version, in case a site's functionality is broken on the mobile version:
Interesting workaround for posting pictures, don't think of that, but yeah, an upload media button would be helpful.
Breakout Technical questions into a subset, brakes, suspension, engine related, bodywork, etc. Maybe apply similar concept to construction zone? Those doing restoration, restomods, and full on custom builds.
Parts supplier/aftermarket fiero specific refresh?
Lastly I'd think a safety guide/things to not do or something along those lines would be beneficial for all. Ogre's cave has some good info, so does the FSM.
The ability to Like or dislike a post, would save alot of headache of being scared of the stupid ratings bar. if someone doesn't like what I post, power to them for a thumbs down.

I wish I could 'like' all these 'like' suggestions.
Would it be possible to get SSL/TLS on fieroforum.com? It's a small annoyance, but it causes issues with any kind of URL filtering.

Thanks for this info! The images in my thread are all on imgur; I'll start moving them over.
Multi-quote would be handy for addressing prior responses from multiple users in the same post. I second the suggestion of an easy way to get to the inbox, especially on mobile.
Not to out myself too badly, but take a look at the Time Travel Institute forum. "Cosmo", the admin there, has played around with a lot of different forum setups and software over the years and is a helpful guy who I'm sure could offer suggestions.
My lack of response in this thread doesn't mean I'm not reading all your suggestions - I've just been incredibly busy these past few weeks. Will respond soon. But I love most of your ideas!
This request might be kind of hard to do. I'd like to see a "Rated check mark" show up in any posting to us only, showing that we rated that member.
Example, I just checked to see if I ever rated Cliff, I was surprised to see I never did. I fixed that in a hurry.
It would be neat to see the "check mark" show up in the postings in the color we rated under the members info in each posting, Green , Blue , Red. I know we can look in "Our ratings icon", just would be nice to see it in the postings.
Again, I'm sure it would be a hard thing to create, but I'd like to see it.

A thought I had just now, PFF is able to track topics I've viewed, to highlight the new ones (correct?) so for those topics with multiple pages, I'd like it to auto load the last page on topics you've viewed, and the first page for topics you haven't viewed.
Maybe even auto scroll to the last post? I'm not to sure about that though, maybe see what other people think about that.
Also when viewing on mobile, when someone posts a picture that has a thumbnail that says click for full size, clicking does nothing, I need to load the desktop site to click the picture and see it enlarged.
1) A consistent way to post pictures where the pictures never go away
2) All the folks that used to be on here back. We have lost so much of our knowledge base onto other platforms. It's scattered all over! This used to be where all Fiero people came!
