Looks like this MAY be a good buy but damage is reported as "all over" so who knows what that means. Rather nice car but possibly flood salvage. Bid only $500 at this point .

Odd that they list it as an Automatic but the pictures show it to be a manual. Regardless, that VIN does not show anywhere here on the forum, so its another entry for the 88 Database Guy's list.
... and they claim it's an '88 but the intake manifold screams '86.... I'm smelling something fishy....
The top strut mounts are '88, as is the heat shield for the alternator. Despite the top intake manifold being a little odd, I suspect it's actually an '88.
The intake manifold could have been filled in to cover the Fiero identification so it may not be an 86 or 85. The angle of the EGR valve indicates it's sitting on an 88 crossover pipe.
If this is the actual car, the total damage could be severe rust. If truly interested, I would have the seller send you a current picture staged as you might describe, like standing with a hand on the side mirror or with a finger pointing at the VIN tag or something. It's an unusual pose. The depicted car definitely isn't a flood-damaged car.

Fieros in NE/Boston may have been exposed to rain, snow and road salt. Just a theory but I'll guess that the total damage is frame rot. This is likely a salvage project vehicle; would ask the seller to lift the trunk rug and provide photos of the wheel houses. To repair those rusted out areas is a major undertaking,. One guy on this forum purchased a Ferrari replica for $5000 and discovered the frame and floor were completely rusted away. Last we heard he was taking the body panels off and putting them on another car.

to each their own... but I would be embarrassed to drive a fake Ferrari.. would much rather drive a real Fiero.
We built a Dino 246 Ferrari Kit Car (Kelmark) for a man with a 110 hp VW engine. He said that no one would know it wasn't a real Dino sitting in his driveway and to the uneducated it would look and sound like one going down the road.
I would like to see a good side view to see if it was stretched. Otherwise, get rid of the mirrors and exhaust tips, and put a different motor in it. Looks like a fun project.

I suspect this vehicle is a "rust bucket" and that is why the bids are low. Go back to the description of damage-everywhere. That says it all. A very expensive project for sure. IMO its worth only salvage value

If the seller wants to sell this car he must get a series of pictures of the bottom of the car, pictures of the wheelhouses, the floor, frame, cradle and all. Then post a recent scan of the ECM. He hasn't done that so its all?????? Only an imbecile would pay the the high price the seller is asking for this unknown.

I registered and quickly found out that for more than half the states in the country, I have to have a dealer license and can't bid on anything. :/
I wasn't really interested in that one, but I found an 84 Corvette that had flood damage, and was complete... I could buy it, strip it, and junk it. And use the parts for mine.

Exactly. It's Copart..... It typically isn't open to the general public. Most of the cars that come out of there are headed to the junkyards anyway. Even the best ones usually come with disclaimers, such as Biohazard, Mechanical Damage, No Keys, Theft Recovery, etc. They aren't creampuffs but sometimes you can get lucky.

Oh yeah, I've seen the bio-hazard ones. Over in U-Pull-It in Davie, Florida... I used to go there regularly when I lived in Fort Lauderdale. Every now and then I'd see a car that was wrecked, and it almost always had some combination of blue EMT or surgical gloves, plus the mouth thing to provide CPR with (I assume they just threw it in there after the fact), and there was sometimes blood all over the place... sometimes with hair. Kinda nasty... you wonder if the person died in that car, or hope they survived.
A) Definitely a manual trans but they say "Automatic"....and B) the VIN and other details say it is an 88 Formula....
I would not pay a dime until I saw the chassis- underneath for rust....And I definitely prefer >>Fiero<< looking cars....Think about this; Someone took a Fiero, stretched the chassis, installed a N-Star w/supercharger, built it up to look like a Lamborghini Diablo...it was as fast as a Diablo....So you take it and blow off a 911....The 911 driver thinks, "Oh, that was a $300,000 car- of course it's a bit faster..."
But if you do the same (Performance) mods to a Fiero that LOOKS like a Fiero, and then blow off that 911, the 911 driver is going to have to buy a PICKUP truck! Why? Because he's going to need something BIG to carry all the Viagra he'll need........
I don't know what you all see on mobile devices but on my home PC, there is an option to buy it or make an offer. [/IMG]
I think the stumbling block is when it asks us to log into our account in order to make a bid.
I tried a few years ago to make an account, but I gave up because it wanted too much information from me, like my tax ID or dealer's license number. I forget what all.

This is nothing less than insanity. You can buy a solid low mile rust free 2000 Corvette for lass than that.
