I did this more out of necessity, however, I think it looks cool.

I don't remember seeing more than one Fiero with exhaust routing like this. If anyone has photos of similar projects I'd love to see them!

Here is what I've been up to.

I know it's going to be asked so what I'll have going on here is headers going into a y pipe into a single high flow cat, no muffler, strategically plumbed under the side of the engine then back up through the trunk area and split again. Simple.

That taillight panel exhaust is certainly different but it may be illegal. A car following or a person crossing will be fogged in exhaust gasses.

I personally prefer wider stereo separation ...but it's still good to see something done a little differently.

This is what is on my car. The plate goes where you have your exhaust. One of these days i will address the blank area where the exhaust used go.

I used an editor and removed it from the picture. The plate is mounted where the lights used to say fiero.

Just an opinion but I would rather see a Fiero as a Fiero. Another words Keep the car looking like a fiero even if you have the need to change to v-8. People love the look of the Fiero design . sleek

Sleek Fiero: I'm with you for the most part. If I had a bone stock 88 fastback I wouldn't touch a thing. This particular ride was likely stock for just a brief moment of its life & nothing too special. I love the look of exotics but alas, never wanted to actually buy one. I love the journey of destroying & recreating The Fiero is simply a super fun platform for this kind of fun.

I have an autobody education/ work history. I left it all in 2015 to pursue a different passion. I now own my own event production company in the Chicago area & anything automotive related is purely a hobby. It's been so much more enjoyable.

Lowered
Grand Am wheels/ rear calipers
Chop Top
Archie Rockers
Custom bonnet vent
Custom deck lid reverse cowl
Longitudinal SBC 350 /Old toronado trans
Aces Fuel injection/ fuel delivery system/ digital dash
Tubular rear control arms
Custom paint
Probably a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting

Dennis: Good to hear from you. It's been a while. As long as it's not wafting back into my face because of a silly side exhaust I'm ok with it. I was even thinking about adding a flame kit. Cops in this area are more concerned with murders. Meanwhile cars like mine and gangs of unlicensed dirt bike riding Venezuelans go unnoticed. For what it's worth... I added a Cat lol

Patrick: Same here. Hopefully it sounds ok. At this point I just need the exhaust to exit the car, not into my face

Easy8: That was my original idea. I decided it was going to be too much fab work to go through everything behind the bumper cover. Another issue for me is that the chain cover for my transmission sits 1/4" away from where I would need to make cuts. There wasn't enough room unfortunately. I love that look you have. I need to get a spoiler like yours to hide my cradle.

Great hearing from you as well and I do admire your work. My 3800SC Fiero has the traditional 4 trumpet exhaust and I've gotten compliants from drivers that they get a strong smell when following behind too close. Maybe my tuning is too aggressive. If your system uses a good CAT or is tuned better you may not have this issue.

The engine was running so rich it would burn my eyes. I could not figure it out. I thought maybe the carb was no good & I wanted efi anyway so I did the Aces EFI setup. It allows for a good amount of tuning capability.

Alas, after the EFI install it was still running like trash.

I touched everything but one thing.... When I was younger I had installed a noisy timing gear set. I kid you not, I recently had a dream that pointed out where I f'ed up. This gear set has spacers that could phase the camshaft. I put an incorrect spacer in and simply could not tune it out.

I put in a stock chain, set it to -15 degrees tdc, It started up first crank & ran perfect. Still needs some tuning but excellent throttle response, no smell, no backfires. I'm pretty happy with it.

The new exhaust is 98% finished. With the high flow cat it shouldn't be horribly loud. I ran straight pipes off it just to see what it sounded like & it wasn't that loud either.

Tonight I'll go ahead and finish welding the last bit. Ill clean the grease off and coat it with some high temp paint.

I have heat wrap coming soon. Kind of a must with the way I'm routing the pipes.
No it wont rust, no I'm not wrapping the Cat. This car does not see snow or rain.

Not sure If anyone noticed before, my engine was sitting crooked. I cut the motor mounts and re-welded that $hit.

The original modifier of this car cut the oil pan for the axel and brazed it back together. A friend found the guy and I got him on the phone. He mentioned he had a bit to much to drink the night him and friend decided to do the original engine swap. Judging by how crooked the engine was sitting & the amount of pinholes in the oil pan.... I think he was telling the truth.

I took care of the oil pan and repainted it last week

Once the exhaust is on I will finish up the interior.

I am actually looking to replace the bottom spoiler with something else. The fiberglass in that one has become waterlogged and is starting to swell. (They were not ment to be used upside down) I do not recommend this solution for that area. I am looking for something to fill in the old exhaust openings as well as the lower center.. it's on the "to do" list, it's all money and time... of course I do not have either.

Would you of been able to seal it so no water can get it?

I've been playing with the idea of thermal vacuum molds. Pretty easy devise to build. I've seen old dashboards restored with sucking a thermal vinyl over it to replicate the original look and texture. Pretty simple, and neat. I'd imagine one could do the same with a spoiler or foam shape and have a great plastic part ready to go for whatever they want.

On the to do list is creating rivet in plastic parts for our Fiero Hoods and rockers for those who do not with to use fiberglass.
